I had a horrible moment in a changing room yesterday. My face, especially looks so tired and droopy Sad

I can easily:
Eat more fruit and veg
Work on sleeping better
Drink more water.

I clean my face and moisturise (whichever is on offer at the time - what creams should l look out for?).

I use sun cream.

I take vitamins (but have to remember to take them every day).

What else can I do?

I think I have low collagen, so have been researching into infra red treatment at home. Does anyone use something that they can recommend?

What other home treatments can I use? I can't afford £££, but I decided yesterday that I would regret not having a go at doing more.

I know creams do not always work and I really don't want to use Botox. At the moment, I want to try things that help my body produce the right things (technical term).

I am following this thread with interest.Where do you folks buy your retinoids products ?

SleepingBooty · 01/12/2017 16:35

Facial exfoliating sponge used very lightly daily with soap. Its made a huge difference to my skin and fixed the deep wrinkle between the brows. I also love my silk pillowcase

OutToGetYou · 01/12/2017 16:43

@Doseydots

The Ordinary - see my post above.

Mominatrix · 01/12/2017 16:56

Retinol 1.0% is the only thing I’ve ever put on my face that’s made a difference. I like the Skinceuticals one. Start off with 0.5% and build up if you haven’t used retinol before.

Woah! Are you certain you have the proper percentages? Tretoin (the generic name for Retin A) comes in .025%, .05% and .1%. A 1% tretoin gel would really strip your skin!

Mominatrix · 01/12/2017 17:05

Ok - just googled (should have done this first, I know!). Retinol is not the same thing as Retin A. It is not nearly as effective as Retin A as the skin must first convert it to retinoid acid to affect the skin - something which happens slowly and not very effectively.

If possible, Id just get a prescription for Retin A - much more effective!

BagelGoesWalking · 01/12/2017 17:07

If you don't want to go down the Retinoid/sunscreen route (I won't either, skin just too sensitive/reactive to take the risk), I'd look at the antioxidant serums available.

The Ordinary does different Vit C (in cream, watery or oil based serums) or something like the EUK or Revesterol options. This also gets good reviews

I'd also look at Ceramide rich moisturisers, I've been using one recommended called Rosette Ceramide Gel (about £10 via eBay from Japan). It's got a lovely consistency and will last for ages. Ceramides are good for your skin.

Investing in a good, low ph gentle cleanser would also be good. Plus all the things about good food, vitamins, sleep etc.

buggerthebotox · 01/12/2017 18:13

I'm even more confused than ever!

I quite like Hot and Flashy on YouTube. I've also been using a cream called Ialuset which is (I think) HA cream. Works well as a primer, too.

How the heck do you make space on your skin for all this stuff? Grin.

Lemond1fficult · 01/12/2017 18:22

Celtic tissue skin placemarking, here!

NewStartAgainReallyThisTime · 01/12/2017 19:53

I have pale, Celtic skin as well - wondering how much that affects it.

I wondered about the collagen after Googling 'droopy face' (after scaring myself over Bell's Palsy/ Lyme disease etc). It was suggested that lack of collagen can cause droopiness

I found that infra-red therapy can help, but I'd want to be able to do it at home.

There are some really good suggestions on here that I want to try out. I've always tried to work from inside out, but now it's not working, I want to try from the outside in!

I need to lose weight. I have been cutting out sugar, but it's been hit and miss. I definitely notice an improvement when I cut it out.

I've dusted of the cleanse and polish and have some Rose hip oil in the cupboard.

I might invest in a body brush again.

I'm 39. I'm too young to be developing jowls Sad and a saggy face.

When my face is working, it looks ok, but I seem to have developed Resting Saggy/ Tired face Hmm

Irish skin here too. I've also developed rosacea in the last two or three years which is really bothering me. I have spent my entire life under a layer of sunscreen and now I have red cheeks anyway Angry

This is just a placemark really. My only tips are the usual, more sleep blah blah. I've been scared of retinol to date, possibly with good reason given my skin type.

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/12/2017 20:08

By infra red do you mean red light led? Infra red is aging & the better sunscreens guard against it now.

Red light led is fab, the masks are £50 or so on Amazon.

I would also look at face exercises to increase muscle tone.

I have read collagen drops post menopause. Protein is protein so eat lots of that & reduce things that make it tougher or less elastic like sugar, fags, sunlight.

The pericone diet is excellent for the face. I remember it coming out years ago.

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/12/2017 20:10

I've got Irish skin ie no natural pink & retin a has a horrendous effect on me. I don't get over the initial purge, it just gets worse.

I'm too chicken to try retinol now.

NewStartAgainReallyThisTime · 01/12/2017 20:12

Like this: redlighttherapy.lighttherapyoptions.com/red-light-therapy-for-skin-anti-aging/

There did seem to be some home versions.

Amazon have them, beauty star is the seller.

I'm saving for one after Xmas. I use a neutrogena acne led mask of red/blue but it's only got 20 led compared to 150 in the beauty star.

The green light is good too, it evens out colour eg age spots.

BagelGoesWalking · 01/12/2017 22:19

For those with rosacea, ppl have found Azelaic Acid (the Ordinary) to be beneficial with reducing redness and smoothing texture. It's only about £5 so worth a try.

gingerclementine · 01/12/2017 22:23

Good eyebrows. Well shaped eyebrows take years off a face.

Lots of water, very frequent moisturiser, face 'yoga' (loads of exercises on youtube). Real yoga. Two friends of mine are yoga teachers and they look way younger than their age.

NewStartAgainReallyThisTime · 01/12/2017 22:34

I did note that my eyebrows appeared non existent (I took a photo in the changing room to compare clothes). I have an eyebrow pencil (Laura Mercier, blonde), but I was half considering dyeing them.

Jowls are more ageing than wrinkles IMO. Mine seemed to appear overnight.
I take more time applying eye make up to hopefully distract attention away from lower face.
Also found having my hair cut to a jaw length helped lift my face somewhat.

MayFayner · 01/12/2017 23:10

bagel yes, my doctor prescribed me azaelic acid, it's a Bauer (sp?) one and I think 15%- I use it religiously morning and night and I had high hopes but I'm not sure it's doing much. I'm about two months in.

Hard to tell though because, after trying everything else (including a crippling elimination diet for three months), a month into the azaelic acid I finally caved and went on to a low dose of minocyline. It's an antibiotic but used as an anti-inflammatory at low dose. Between that and the azaelic acid the rosacea is under control, but not gone.

GreenPurpleRed · 01/12/2017 23:31

Following as I've just turned 40 and I feel like overnight I've aged. I never used to k my age but I definitely look it now.

I have 2 yo and could definitely do with more sleep and less wine

ZaraW · 02/12/2017 05:22

I'm very fair and have sensitive skin and have had no problem with Retin A I did only use it once a week for the first few months and of course spf50. I also do face exercises.

JMAngel1 · 02/12/2017 07:39

Anyone with rosacea, run,do not walk to your GP for Soolantra - life changing literally.

buggerthebotox · 02/12/2017 09:51

I've often wondered about yoga. Ive noticed teachers often look younger than they are.

The thing that seemed to help my jowls was lifting weights! Apart from having a glreally great effect on my shape, it seemed to make my jowls appear lifted!

I'd definitely recommend it. Smile

As a lazy cheapskate, this is what makes a difference to me
: hot cloth and aqueous cream cleansing
: almond oil at night face and neck
: sleep
: shaping and home dyeing my eyebrows
: sunscreen
: light fake tan if I look a bit grey
: warm colours near my face ie gave up black tops.
