Would you spend £40 on a purse?

I have been looking for a new purse for a while, I found a perfect one today in Ted Baker its a lovely teal colour and has all the bits I want (i need a large coin purse bit and most don't have this). I really want a bluey/greeny coloured purse and it really is a lovely purse but it is also £40!! The other ones I was looking at in Oasis are £20.

Its this one but in teal -
purse

My current one is a leather one from River Island that I have had for 4 years and it is battered so I wonder if I would get my moneys worth, do you think it would last longer if it costs more?

Hmmm.

Er no and no.

Hilllary · 18/04/2007 21:52

Probably

chacha3 · 18/04/2007 21:53

i like the purse change my purse like the weather but forty pounds bit steep i think!

hitchcock · 18/04/2007 21:53

if dp gave me 40.00 said treat yourself yeah but other wise no

Smurfgirl · 18/04/2007 21:55

I would it keep it until it broke - I am only replacing my current one because the zip broke. I have never lost a purse.

I can afford it but its such a lot of money, for a purse, but I have also looked everywhere and not found something I like.

No. Not ever.

colditz · 18/04/2007 21:56

oh it's smurfgirl - you don't have children, yes? In which case, yes, do it.

Littlefish · 18/04/2007 21:57

Yes, if I loved it. I use my purse every day, and I've had it for about 5 years now. I paid a bit more than £40.00 for it.

But, if you work out how much it costs you per day e.g. £40.00 divided by 365 days it works out at only 10p a day. BARGAIN! and if you keep it for 2 years, it's only about 5p a day. DOUBLE BARGAIN!

Smurfgirl · 18/04/2007 21:57

No children no.

Should have said that - after bills and savings etc my money is for me. It just feels like a huge amount of money. Laydeee at the counter said 'lifetime investment' I think not.

ChasingSquirrels · 18/04/2007 21:58

i would and have probably done so, but then mine usually last at least 5 years so i think its worth it - i hate having a purse i'm not happy with

Hilllary · 18/04/2007 22:00

Its lovely leather though (I have a thing about leather)

IdrisTheDragon · 18/04/2007 22:00

I wouldn't spend £40 on a purse (but I did only spend £7 on my handbag, so I'm probably not the best person to ask ).

madmarchhare · 18/04/2007 22:00

quite possibly if I was that picky and had found just the right one

TheShopaholic · 18/04/2007 22:01

Yes, if I really liked it. I'd rather spend money on something more expensive and well made that lasts rather than a cheaper version that fell apart quickly. Go for it!

chocolateface · 18/04/2007 22:03

That's a tough one.

Smurfgirl · 18/04/2007 22:48

Sarcasm chocolateface?

I am really unsure, I won't buy it until next month anyway so I will have a good look at it again before I commit

I know its riduclous to be so picky but I want a smaller sized funky leather purse and apparently there are not that many!

Twinklemegan · 18/04/2007 22:52

I would refuse to spend more on a purse than I could afford to put in it.

collision · 18/04/2007 22:54

No...never.

Lllllllllllledodgy · 18/04/2007 22:54

I agree with twinkle. If I spoent £40 on a purse it would be empty for a good while.

emmatomATO · 18/04/2007 22:55

My last one cost £38 15 years ago. Real leather, pockets for everything, looked lovely and I only stopped using it last year when a bit of the lining started to fray a bit (at last) and was getting stuck in a zip.

You get what you pay for. Worth it if it lasts 15 years and still looking good.

And life is too short - you want it, you can afford it, you get it.

unknownrebelbang · 18/04/2007 22:56

Erm, let me think about this one.

No.

LOL at replies to this thread!

I am sooo not a big spender on things tend to buy lots of cheap things.

I think I will carry on hunting and if I can't find anything I will go back.

I have tried John Lewis, House of Fraser, Debenhams, M&S, River Island...

Yes, on the previso that you really, REALLY love it + it won't date (have my doubts looking at it, but have quite dull taste in bags/purses)
WOn't you be sick of it before it 'wears out' ?
