What brands are 'cool' for teenage boys please?

My DS is nearly 14 and for the last couple of years has lived in anything with a big brand logo spread across it. So Nike tracksuits, Adidas hoodies etc 😒 He's recently moved school and on a non uniform day felt out of place as the other boys were all in skinny jeans and discreetly branded tops whilst he was in head to toe Nike with logos all over the place. Being a typical teenager, he just wants to look like every other boy but I don't know where to start after shopping exclusively in sports shops for him in recent years. Any ideas anyone?

My DS is 14. He like Lyle & Scott and North Face t shirts and jackets. Like jeans from primark !

Ffsdh · 25/11/2017 21:09

My nephews like Jack Wills, Quiksilver, Billabong and a few other surfy type brands. They tend to be less ‘obviously’ branded.

Ryebreadandwine · 25/11/2017 21:12

My son will only wear urban outfitters. It’s all eighties puffa and dad jeans. Think Kevin bacon 😆. It does make me smile.

Ihavepatrick · 25/11/2017 21:14

My 13yr old lives in north face, Hugo Boss, Ralph Lauren and Lacoste. He's getting a Fred Perry sweatshirt for Christmas.

ProseccoMamam · 25/11/2017 21:17

North face, Ralph Lauren, Fred Perry, jack wills

There are lots with a more subtle look, and that seems to be the look people go for now. Have a look in your nearest JD/Sports direct x

Orangedragonfly · 25/11/2017 21:21

My Ds likes North Face.

DullAndOld · 25/11/2017 21:22

anything from JD Sports

Methenyouplus4 · 25/11/2017 21:28

North Face, Levis, Champion, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren (just t-shirts from last two as £££), Tommy Hilfiger, All Saints.

Jeans/ joggers he is still happy with Primarc etc.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 25/11/2017 21:30

DS17 likes Superdry, Ralph Lauren, Adidas, Saltrock.

KatieKookaburra26 · 25/11/2017 21:34

My nephew also like urban outfitters and it’s very 80’s where we live at the minute

jaimelannistersgoldenhand · 25/11/2017 21:39

Ds is 16 but at age 14 he was very anti-brands (apart from shoes). He shops at ASOS, H&M and Boohoo.com and wears black skinny jeans with longline plain tshirts/hoodies. (Cap is a must too)

Methenyouplus4 · 25/11/2017 21:57

Actually yes, baseball's caps very popular here too. Converse etc.

user1487671808 · 25/11/2017 21:59

MIne likes Jack Wills, hollister and Nike mixed with a bit of whatever.

Ta1kinPeace · 25/11/2017 21:59

jack wills, superdry, patagonia, nike, van
New Look sometimes
and I've had a couple of real wins from Sainsburys ;-)

ineedamoreadultieradult · 25/11/2017 22:00

SuperDry
North Face
Stone Island
Jack's Wills
Firetrap

iseenodust · 25/11/2017 22:05

DS in yr9 likes Superdry t-shirts & tops and Ralph Lauren polo shirts, both brands have outlet stores dotted around. Last Superdry t-shirt was only £10.99 from Cheshire Oaks. Would never pay full price ! Jeans come from H&M or whatever is cheap in men's section of TKMaxx.

Chocolatear · 25/11/2017 22:06

My 15 Yr old likes Supreme and Palace.
Both are ridiculously expensive skate wear.

pieceofpurplesky · 25/11/2017 22:10

My nearly 14 year old is not trendy and not in to designer stuff. He does love saltrock hoodies and t shirts with vans. He is more laid back scooter boy.

LillianGish · 25/11/2017 22:20

Hilarious that North Face is suddenly cool DS wouldn’t have looked at it a few years ago. Apparently it’s as a result of their collaborations with Supreme. Now there is a brand phenomenon - you have to queue up to get in the shop (to the extent that there is actually a queue to join the queue), they only have deliveries (or ‘drops’) on Thursday - otherwise stock is very thin on the ground. If you are ‘lucky’ enough to buy an over-priced item on drop days you are guaranteed to be able to sell it for three or four times what you paid for it on special websites set up to do just that. DS is completely fascinated by the phenomenon - I’m trying to do everything I can to not to stoke his interest (while at the same time secretly finding it rather fascinating myself).

Atalune · 25/11/2017 22:23

Supreme
Palace
Hype
Bathing Ape
North face.

Apparently it’s all about the tops and skinny jeans from primark are fine!

LillianGish · 25/11/2017 22:28

Has anyone else come across those ridiculous customised Nike trainers - you have to enter a draw to even be able to queue up to get a pair and they come with a sort of red plastic security tag that you have to leave on?

happy2bhomely · 25/11/2017 22:34

My 17 yr old only wears branded trainers. Either Nike or Adidas. He wears clothes from H&M, Asos, Boohoo, Topman and River Island. Actually, he does have a couple of 'Nicce' bits.

Everything is slim fit or muscle fit with the occasional oversized hoody.

My 14 year old dd wears almost exactly the same.

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 25/11/2017 22:36

Vans. Every kid is in Vans stuff around here.

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 25/11/2017 22:38

16 year old DS also wears Levi stuff (hoodies/t shirts). Plus hollister. But mainly Vans (they do t shirts as well as the shoes).

LynetteScavo · 26/11/2017 08:46

The thing is, every high school has its own idea of cool. At my DCs school the boys won't touch Jack Wills, maybe because the girls are so in to it, but it definitely seen as a girls brand. Hmm

For some reason my DS will only wear Addidas tracksuit bottoms or beige chinos...he spends a lot of time on his bmx and they do get chain oil on them Hmm. Vans tops always go down well, he's also into Fox clothing but that could just be a niche thing with his group of Y10 friends who are all into bikes.

Find out if there is a local trendy shop all the kids go to....I know what I go to out local one everything the sell will be considered cool.
