Has anyone got rid of or improved the appearance of age spots / pigmentation without lasers???

Just that. I have noticeable sun damage on my upper cheeks and around my eyes. Wondering if any products will help or am I better off going straight to laser treatment rather than spending a fortune on skin products first?

I have - liquid gold ( you need to use sunscreen). Pigmentation mark ( which was about a cm across) is no longer visible

libertyonhertravels · 22/11/2017 06:22

Thanks brillenbar. I am attaching a pic of the sun damage for reference. Was your mark this dark?

Sali Hughes claims to have found something that works:

I've got the same problem on forehead and cheekbones.

SilentlyScreamingAgain · 22/11/2017 10:13

Sorry, I should have said that the below the line comments on SH's pieces are often as illuminating as anything she has to say herself. There are lots of folks discussing cheaper vit c and their experiences with it.

libertyonhertravels · 22/11/2017 10:17

Thanks silently screaming again. Thats interesting as Caroline Hirons recommends the same DCL product. - just an eyewatering price hence my wondering if I should just go straight to laser!!

Oh I will check out the comments....

I've got a half used bottle of this stuff if you want to try it.

Apologies for late reply silently I am in NZ so have been asleep for last 8 hours! I suspect the cost of postage would be almost as much as buying it!!! But thank you Flowers for the offer.

A bog standard retinoid made a difference for me. Mine was over the counter from last Spanish holiday, but people swear by the Ordinary if you need postage to NZ!

prettywhiteguitar · 22/11/2017 23:05

Melasma and age spots are treated differently? I think yours might be age spots so I would go down the IPL route first and then keep them at bay with the le rosey posay pigmentclar

NotAPenguin · 22/11/2017 23:22

I have been using The Ordinary Vitamin C for about a month with good results. I have one large dark age spot, bigger that yours liberty and about as dark, and it's very much faded. Not completely gone but more or less covered by foundation whereas before it took a couple of layers of concealer.

The texture is gritty, people complain about it in online reviews, but it's so much cheaper than the other alternatives. I'm sure it's not as good as the DCL but worth a try. Though actually now I know the cheapo one works I feel more inclined to pay more for something that might completely get rid of it.

libertyonhertravels · 23/11/2017 07:05

ProjectGainsborough and NotAPenguin - great to hear that Vit C and retinoid have made a difference. I have realised that I can buy The Ordinary online in NZ so I am going to try their Vit C at least I think.

prettywhiteguitar I suspect you might be right Sad. I'm going to try acid toner and Vit C for a month or two and if no success I will go see a dermatologist.

I used Eucerin a dab on treatment and after a coke of months it went all flakey and sort of peeled off. Really pleased and trying with another one

I have quite a few sun damage/age spots now - 3 large ones on my forehead and a lot more freckle type ones on my cheeks.

I've been using the liquid gold (as recommended by Mumsnet) and they have faded slightly. The smaller lighter marks I don't mind so much but am a bit self conscious of the larger which luckily are mostly covered by my fringe.

Mumsnet also recommended Super facialist vitamin C serum which I used for a while. I think I need to step up a gear now so will have a good luck at what you've all been recommending.

As a matter of interest, if one has dermabrasion or laser treatment, do the spots return and how quickly?

prettywhiteguitar · 23/11/2017 20:20

Laser is really great, I'm not sure why people are trying to avoid it. It cost about £40-60 a go and I use a pigment reducer to keep them from going darker. It takes about three treatments to get them completely faded and they do come back, but nothing like they were.

I had one above my eyebrow the size of my fingertip, dark brown and for ten years !! It's gone now with the treatment and the cream.

As you exfoliate the old cells are removed and it looks better but without IPL the pigment cells just rise to the top and they become dark again.

FedupNagging · 23/11/2017 21:04

Thanks Pretty; What's IPL? Laser treatment seems less invasive (& less painful) than a chemical peel type treatment.

Noeuf is this the Eucerin product you were using?

There are so many products to choose from Confused

prettywhiteguitar · 23/11/2017 21:42

Yes it's targeting the dark cells and destroying them ! Whereas microdermabrasion is for the top layers of your whole face.

I used the eucerin stuff, I didn't really touch the sides, I think you just have to try stuff and see what works for you, everyone is different

SukiTheDog · 23/11/2017 21:55

Fade Out creams. I use day spf25 and night creams. I’m impressed at the overall brightening of my skin, in the past 6 weeks.

ChishandFips33 · 24/11/2017 01:14

I was using Effaclar Duo to clear skin and my obvious brown spot has practically gone as an added bonus. My discolouration was a result of medication...it made my skin look dirty so glad it's almost gone!

I think there's a specific Effaclar Duo for correction

SukiTheDog · 24/11/2017 07:53

Chish, is the Effaclar good for teen acne, do you think? Have a DS who’s 17 and really struggling 😐

ChishandFips33 · 24/11/2017 18:14

I would imagine it would be...think there's a money back guarantee so def worth a try

The 3 step pack is a fab buy at £21 from the link above

I notice a difference when I get lazy and miss a few days using it
