Worlds greasiest hair!

Ok, maybe that’s a slight exaggeration Grin but my hair goes greasy so quickly. I really need to wash it everyday but I’m too lazy. I’ve tried changing shampoo, ditching conditioner, using dry shampoo to stretch out time between washes etc but NOTHING works. My hair is only ever “clean” the day it’s washed - after that it’s greasy and looks so even when up.

Do I admit defeat, accept that I have greasy hair and either wash it every day or use dry shampoo or can I do something about it?

Can anyone help please! Any suggestions gratefully received.

I can't help as I have hair that thinks it needs to be washed every day too.
I just dry shampoo it. And to be honest the best dry shampoo I've found is wilkos! £1 or £1.50 A bottle (cant remember which) and it works brilliantly.
I tried more expensive ones but they left my hair feeling horrid, or my scalp feeling itchy.

AddictedToSausageRolls · 08/11/2017 20:17

Thanks @HerRoyalFattyness - I’ve also found the cheaper dry shampoos are the best!

Sounds weird, but give co- washing a try. My hair seems less greasy which is counter-intuitive, but it works. Just use a non- silicone conditioner.

Was it Klorane dry shampoo? It’s French and is the absolute bomb. Only one I’ve ever liked but it is a bit pricier.

Cakescakescakes · 08/11/2017 20:27

Also try Redken Cleansing Cream which is an excellent clarifying shampoo. I use it once a week and definitely get an extra day out of my hair when I’ve used it. Too drying to use all the time though.

Ftumch · 08/11/2017 20:28

My hair has been a bit better since I started a low carb diet weirdly enough! 2 days of clean hair and can stretch to a third with dry shampoo! I've also stopped tying my hair up overnight.

ScandiGirl10 · 08/11/2017 20:32

Similar issue but these help me: Use a clarifying shampoo (sometimes I just use head and shoulders) and bit of conditioner on the ends. Sometimes dry shampoo in before you go to bed as a preventive measure helps. Try not to touch hair much during the day.

brookby · 08/11/2017 20:39

I also found the loreal shampoos for greasy hair really good - I use the dandruff one in a green bottle and it gets me an extra day.

Fairy liquid to wash and conditioner through the ends. Will strip any colour you might have though and if any bleach, loads of conditioner after!

AddictedToSausageRolls · 08/11/2017 21:35

Thank you all so much! Lots of things to try. Fingers crossed.

(The only thing that “cures” the greasiness for me is pregnancy but I don’t think my husband would be too keen on that as an ongoing solution Grin)

I have horrendously greasy hair and for most of my 20s washed it every day because I saw no other solution. I tried a whole host of shampoos, including some at eye-watering prices!
Then about five years ago I started using dry shampoo to try to get every other day 'off' from washing, which worked but I looked a bit grim by the end of the second day. Then recently, I've discovered a routine which seems to really work for me!

My hair is great now (if I do say so myself Grin) - admittedly, it's probably what most people consider 'normal' hair, even a bit mousy and dull, but in my head I'm basically the next Kate Middleton with a swooshy shiny mane. The secret, holy grail method I use is:

Use Kerastase shampoo and Tigi Bedhead because your hairdresser suggested them. Curse the waste of money they turned out to be. Refuse to throw out due to money so hide them in the bathroom cupboard because having them within sight in the shower leads to feelings of guilt/fury.

Use cheap, cheap conditioner on ends of hair. Leave in whilst using shower gel on body. Comb through (ends only!) then rinse. Shampoo using Alberto Balsam apple shampoo (says for greasy hair on bottle). Shampoo twice. Put oil for blonde hair on to damp hair - ends only (probably optional!). Wash again 2-3 days later! Use dry shampoo in the evening of Day 2 (and Day 1 if you prefer) - I find it works better than the mornings.

Once every couple of weeks, use Natural World Charcoal and Mint clarifying shampoo. Like above - use it twice. There is serious difference in the amount of foamy bubbles produced with each wash!

If I use the charcoal shampoo on a Sunday, I can go until to Wednesday evening without washing my hair and my hair still looks professional enough (tied back) to go to work on Wednesday.

RedPandaMama · 08/11/2017 22:53

I love the Lush dry shampoo. Quite expensive (about £8) but I've been using it for two years and still got about half left. Absolutely brilliant.

DaisyRenton18 · 08/11/2017 22:54

So embarrassed at the length of that message and how carried away I was, but can't figure out how to delete it. Oh well. OP, apologies! I'm just so excited to have found something that seems to work after years of looking like someone's dunked me upside down in a mop bucket. I really hope it helps you.

sooperdooper · 08/11/2017 22:55

I find having highlights or a colour helps my hair be less greasy, just dries it out I guess which most people want to avoid but it works for me

AddictedToSausageRolls · 08/11/2017 23:02

@DaisyRenton18 😂😂😂
I’m glad you didn’t delete ... I’m going to give the shampoo a go. And a couple of others suggested dry shampoo at night which I’ll be giving a go!

OP posts:
AddictedToSausageRolls · 08/11/2017 23:04

@DaisyRenton18 do you mean that I should condition first? I think this is what @spankhurst was suggesting too?

OP posts:
Imfinehowareyou · 08/11/2017 23:18

You have described my hair exactly. Right down to pregnancy being the only cure Grin which means it must be something hormonal? No tips I'm afraid - I'm just following for my own benefit!

DaisyRenton18 · 08/11/2017 23:20
Blush

Yep, I use conditioner first and think that's made a difference.

I think, if I understand the ideas of co-washing properly, spankhurst is actually suggesting using only conditioner, and no shampoo at all? I could be wrong there.

toffeepumpkins · 08/11/2017 23:29

My is less greasy if I don't wash it daily and also if I use a 'mens' combined shower and shampoo, I think it's a Palmolive one. It's blue useful

AddictedToSausageRolls · 08/11/2017 23:38

@Imfinehowareyou I mean I do love being pregnant and having kids but it’s an extreme solution to keep my hair shiny and clean

@DaisyRenton18 thanks - I’ll have a Google

@toffeepumpkins lol!

OP posts:
oldlaundbooth · 09/11/2017 01:08

It is better if I leave it two days but I find that hard to do. Mine is mega greasy.

As pp's have said, Alberto Balsam shampoo is good, as is Redken Cleansing Creme.

Johnson's baby shampoo works well too.

Double washing works also.

Notanotheruser111 · 09/11/2017 05:58

I use a clarifying shampoo, the day after and sometimes a third day if it’s not too bad I wash just with conditioner using it like shampoo, but really make sure I rinse well and I also give it a really good brush before washing
