Worlds greasiest hair!

Ok, maybe that’s a slight exaggeration Grin but my hair goes greasy so quickly. I really need to wash it everyday but I’m too lazy. I’ve tried changing shampoo, ditching conditioner, using dry shampoo to stretch out time between washes etc but NOTHING works. My hair is only ever “clean” the day it’s washed - after that it’s greasy and looks so even when up.

Do I admit defeat, accept that I have greasy hair and either wash it every day or use dry shampoo or can I do something about it?

Can anyone help please! Any suggestions gratefully received.

Yy to clay shampoo

Yy that’s dry shampoo the night before too. I use Lidl one and it’s great!

Lostflipflop · 09/11/2017 06:19

I used the clay one too and was able to go a day without washing but it doesn't seem to work anymore. I have suffered greasy hair since my teens and I am so fed up with it. Dry shampoo really irritates my scalp too 😢

iLoveSundaysMe · 09/11/2017 07:27

You are me!

Don’t buy a shampoo for oily hair, get one for normal.

Only condition from the bottom of the ear down.

Avoid touching hair and get a brush that spreads the oil through the hair, a bristle one is best if your hair responds well to one.

Faith in Nature - Pineapple and Lime.

Best I’ve ever used and I have tried more than 200 (honestly)

Use dry shampoo half way through day, helps by stopping the grease from building.

I feel your pain ConfusedSmile

Yes, co-washing is massaging conditioner in and rinsing thoroughly. Sounds bonkers but cleans your hair well and seems to balance greasiness a bit like oil cleansing greasy skin.

Eolian · 09/11/2017 19:03

Same here, OP. I've tried most of the above, including co-washing. Some thigs improve it a bit, but not enough to stop me washing it every day. Tbh, as I shower every morning I might as well wash my hair anyway really.

AddictedToSausageRolls · 09/11/2017 21:41

Well I tried putting in dry shampoo last night and it’s definitely better than using it in the morning so thanks to everyone who suggested that.

Co-washing scares me Confused as I love the clean feeling when I shampoo my hair but I’m going to try. Do I need a “special” conditioner or can I just use my normal one? And do I literally use it like a shampoo?! Thanks in advance.

@Eolian agreed - I’d happily wash my hair everyday it’s the drying I just can’t be bothered with! (And I can’t just leave it as it goes crazy!)

Well my hair now looks greasy on the same day I wash it so you're one step ahead of me OP.

KanielOutis · 09/11/2017 21:51

I co wash. Haven’t used shampoo in about 6 months. My hair is soft and clean and I get positive comments all the time about it.

Wellhellothere1 · 09/11/2017 23:26

I'll compete with you for the title of the world's greasiest hair! What's worked for me recently is switching to vosene shampoo which contains salicylic acid which regulates the oil I presume. I can now get easily two days out of a shampoo which is a revelation for me. I also put my hair up at night now in a loose top knot or high ponytail which seems to help as I'm not rolling about in my messy hair overnight. It really helps with volume too as my hair is fine and flat normally. I wear it in waves and if I tie it up at night I don't have to touch it the next day. More time in bed in the morning!

Baileystruffle · 10/11/2017 12:39

When you wash your hair, use two lots of shampoo and make sure the second lot gets nice and foamy. Only use conditioner on the ends, not the scalp. Makes a big difference for me.

spankhurst · 11/11/2017 17:52

I just use any silicone free one.

Nicketynac · 11/11/2017 19:33

I use the Loreal thickening shampoo and conditioner (the one in the opaque bottle, not the see throug one) after I saw comments about it drying out people's hair. I still wash my hair every day because I run and also it's short so sticks up every morning - a bit like Wolverine/ Jonathan from Stranger Things. Anyway, I digress. My hair is no longer oily and is in lovely condition.
When my hair was longer sometimes washing my fringe was enough to make it presentable - is that an option for you?

NoParticularPattern · 11/11/2017 19:44

I tried the clay shampoo/conditioner thing and it was hideous. Just dried the ends of my hair out even more and made no perceptible difference to the roots.

My current effort is: Tresemme platinum strength shampoo on roots, good scrub and wash off. Tresemme platinum strength conditioner to ends only, comb through with fingers and wash out. Dry shampoo (Batiste it Lidl’s own) for as many days as I can get away with it. Sometimes I use the Tresemme clarifying shampoo especially if I’ve had a particularly sweaty/dirty day, but always the platinum strength conditioner. I know Tresemme is not everyone’s cup of tea but it’s about all my hair will tolerate without needing to be washed at least every other day. I also prefer my hair when it dries in bed overnight. No idea why, I’m just not a huge blow dry fan (because I’m inept and I cannot do it to save my life).

I used to feel like I could wash my hair twice a day it used to get so greasy, but I now wash mine about three times a fortnight- more than once a week but not quite twice!!

AddictedToSausageRolls · 11/11/2017 22:10

@Nicketynac I don’t have a fringe so not an option but I’ll give that shampoo a go - thanks

@NoParticularPattern thanks - I’ll look into that as well

@spankhurst I tried co-washing yesterday - it felt so strange not to get a lather and mentally I was imagining that my hair was still dirty and going to be greasy (having had conditioner on the roots). I was surprised how clean and manageable it was but this morning it was still greasy. I’ll definitely give co-washing a longer go ... is it something that has an impact over time - if I keep doing it the grease will reduce?

Yes your hair may need time to adjust. I'd give it at least 3 weeks. I usually do 2 co- washes and one shampoo over a week.
