I work in a school, we have Windows permanently open, in and out of the school to do outdoor learning every 5 minutes etc.
I need to keep bloody warm, I'm home now and in bed trying to warm up!
Please tell me what warm dresses/boots etc you wear so I can also buy them Grin
I'm hopeless at shopping, do everything online.
Nothing low cut on top and arms covered.
Size 14, budget is whatever it costs to keep me bloody warm Grin

Ive just bought a body from M&S to wear under my thermal top (also from M&S but a few years ago), oh what a difference when there is no gap at the waist, Im going to order a couple more, they are from the shapewear range, but no so as you would know

CakeNinja · 01/11/2017 17:56

I bought a couple of bodysuits accidentally a while back, they looked like vests on the picture and of course I never bothered sending them back Grin
Am kind of tempted although the faff of the poppers for loo breaks kind of puts me off...

Ooh the bodysuit talk has reminded me about Japanese harimaki. (Not sure of spelling). These are a jersey tube about 10 inches wide you wear round your middle to keep your back warm - think they are part of traditional medicine for keeping kidneys healthy? Anyway I've got one and it's great to avoid the gap between tops and bottoms. Also helps avoid a builders bum...

SpoonfulOfJam · 01/11/2017 18:19

Those thermal knee highs look perfect.

Apileofballyhoo · 01/11/2017 18:28

Lined trousers with wool in them are your friends. Also thermal insoles. And lots of thin layers. Thermal best, fitted top, fine wool top/jumper and a long chunky cardigan over the whole lot. As long as the knit is fine on the third layer you won't look bulky.

MrsMoastyToasty · 01/11/2017 18:32

I wear leggings and socks instead of tights. A camisole as a vest. Then something bum covering on top and a pair of knee length boots.

ShotsFired · 01/11/2017 18:34

Wrist warmers.

Apparently if you can keep your wrists warm you will feel generally warmer. There's a website called Turtle Doves* which makes them from recycled cashmere garments, which are lovely, although plenty of cheaper alternatives elsewhere too.

I should have a pair arriving any day now so am looking forward to trying them.

  • I think the lady who set it up suffered with Raynaud's so she knows about being cold!
Ollivander84 · 01/11/2017 18:36

Sainsbury's have good thermals in
So you could wear a thermal cami, thermal leggings, skirt, thick socks and boots to hide the socks and leggings.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 01/11/2017 18:41

Uniqlo Heattech and ultra-light down. My office is always sub zero.

tangledyarn · 01/11/2017 19:11

I second Sainsbury's thermal range..its cosy and cheap. Feel your pain, I'm always freezing despite working in a heated office.. being cold makes me super sleepy like my body wants to hibernate..not good at work!

oldlaundbooth · 01/11/2017 19:22

Just do star jumps at break time.

Works for me.

CakeNinja · 01/11/2017 19:37

Just stopped at Sainsbury's, not much in the way of thermal anything. Will have a look online for all the stuff I might need.
Knowing my luck, the day I turn up to work dressed like an arctic explorer, the stingy caretaker will have relented and whacked the heating up by 10 degrees Grin
Oh, and I dug out the bodysuits, they were thong ones Envy they went down to the clothes bin at Sainsbury's!

healthyheart · 01/11/2017 19:47

Another scarf suggestion it’s amazing how much warmth these can add.

tangledyarn · 01/11/2017 19:53

The thermal stuff in my Sainsbury's was in packets by underwear rather than with the rest of the clothes. I just got a plain black ls top but they had quite a few bits.

GreenTulips · 01/11/2017 19:57

Maybe it's just me, but wouldn't be it be brilliant if 'chicken fillets' were microwaveable??

CakeNinja · 01/11/2017 19:58

Right, for tomorrow I'm going to wear a vest and make sure I stick a scarf on too.
Obviously other clothes will be worn too Grin

Keep an eye out in TK Maxx for fleece lined tights. You can normally get them for about £4. Impossible to snag.

ShotsFired · 01/11/2017 20:03

Grin Every winter night I put my next day's socks, knickers and bra on th radiator. They are then thoroughly toasted by the time I get dressed the next morning. A warm bum is a true pleasure!

CakeNinja · 01/11/2017 20:04

I can't cope with clothes shopping in real life Grin
I dither and end up buying nothing! Fleece lined tights that are indestructible sound pretty tempting though...

I always keep a small hot water bottle in my desk, full it up when I go to get a cup of tea and have it with me for the next few hours!

There s something really warm about corduroy.
I had a boden cord tunic that I used to get too warm in. They have some l long sleeve cord dresses this season.

Appuskidu · 01/11/2017 20:27

I can't wear a hat in the classroom

I am often found to be teaching in a hat!

Laska5772 · 01/11/2017 20:40

Our office is utterly freezing in winter ! (local government and cuts mean no heating most of the day and we are not allowed personal heaters ).. Layers are the answer.

I have several of these and wear them under my work wear. Yes they are expensive but they are very fine so dont notice but are warm also. I have four now and they have lasted me over 4 years . (and if its really cold ill wear the silk thermal leggings also !!)

I also have several of these camisoles

Then Uggs ( or equiv , I have Bearpaws I bought cheap in TKmaxx) and wrist warmers. I always wear a scarf pashmina , silk / wool mix light and warm. Everyone in our office has a poncho/shawl as well!

I often also wear a down gilet .

its a joke..(not)

woollychimp · 01/11/2017 20:57

I know someone has already asked but how do the kids cope with being so cold?
