Where do you buy clothes for your dd - don't want to dress her like a tiny adult!

Went shopping for 6yo dd today.
Sainsbury's, H&M, Next, M&S.

All full of clothes that were just like tiny versions of the women's department!
She's 6! She wants leggings and tshirts that have nice maybe I mean naive pictures or patterns on and are comfy.
Next didn't have any leggings at all for the over 5s!

Where do I look?

She'd be happy with a pinafore, denim skirt and some tops and maybe a checked shirt. All sort of classic stuff I thought. But so hard to find today.

Neither of us are ready for her to be dressing in grown up/ fashion-y stuff!

There’s some really nice stuff in F+F right now and the quality is way better than it used to be.

JoJo Maman Bebe, John Lewis and Gap, often second hand via EBay or the second hand children’s shop where I live. Classic children’s clothes, good quality so they last and can be sold on afterwards - or passed to younger children.

You don’t have to spend loads. A couple of nice skirts or trousers with a long sleeve vest (John Lewis have really nice packs that are very kiddy) with a nice cardigan or reversible hoodie (JoJo do some fab ones that are pricey but can’t recommend them enough as they get worn so much and was really well). I buy less but buy better quality and usually second hand when I can.

cakes I've always dressed my boys in straightforward casual clothes and buy 90% of clothes from H&M. Lovely fabrics, fit well, well priced

RavingRoo · 26/10/2017 19:01

Monsoon, GAP, Primark

Nearlyadoctor · 26/10/2017 19:13

Boden or JL

You could try Landsend www.landsend.co.uk/Kids/New_Arrivals/Girls/ix-11409_4465

If you think it's hard at six, wait until she's eight or nine.

At your daughter's age, we liked JL, Jojo Maman etc but did also find nice bits in supermarkets and Next. Now Boden and John Lewis are our best bets. On the plus side, they need fewer clothes as they get older. We found a lovely dark red cord dress with a little stripey top in JL and the Boden heart patch jeans are a real winner here too, trendy but not 'adult'.

Uniqlo also good for basics - my DS loves their (unisex) checked flannel shirts.

They do nice patterned fleeces and plain cotton long-sleeve t-shirts, fleece-lined joggers and trousers, and I seem to recall seeing a pinafore whilst I was browsing (online) the other day. Prices are good and delivery is free over £30.

H&M have loads of leggings in there ATM and I got dd a black denim pinafore dress from there too. Primark in the boys section have loads of nice plaid shirts. We have a few for with jeans

Otherwise I get the bulk of DDs stuff from GAP outlet and gap. One of the few places where we can get jeans that aren't 'skinny fit' and shirts with nice prints that aren't too 'girly'

I don't like a lot of the girls stuff out there ATM for reasons you mentioned before. DDs wardrobe is half 'girl' clothes and half 'boy'

Next - the basics range (T shirts, leggings) plus the odd more special t shirt or blouse. Nice dresses. Have to shop online for the basics. Loads of character stuff or mini adult to filter through though, just look carefully

H&M - I like the cotton basics range ("conscious") - cotton PJs, t shirts, summer dresses, hoodies. Skinny cords and slim jeans fit my DD well. (Don't like skinny jeans on small kids though).

Vertbaudet and La Redoute - if you don't mind pictures and a few french slogans, they have quite a lot of nice properly "childish' clothing. Good for t shirts, jumpers and coats.

Given up on Zara, too trendy. Nice PJs though

Boden in the sale or with a good voucher - especially good for jumpers/cardis, coats, can't justify their prices for t shirts and other basics

My DD often wore some clothes from Boden they have some quite mixed pieces nowadays. It seems a bit pricey but they often have offers on 25% off or buy 3 items 3rd item free etc. The clothes were always really good quality, natural fabrics, comfortable to wear. I often bought things when offers were on and sold them on eBay for not much less than I originally paid at Boden. I mixed Boden with H&M or wherever else had nice things in. I hate children in dark colors and mini adult teenage temptress type clothes. My DD was very tall so Boden was a godsend as she loved bright colors and many of their styles.

Little Bird at Mothercare is nice for kids this age. Boots Miniclub sometimes do ok stuff too.
