Where do you buy clothes for your dd - don't want to dress her like a tiny adult!

Went shopping for 6yo dd today.
Sainsbury's, H&M, Next, M&S.

All full of clothes that were just like tiny versions of the women's department!
She's 6! She wants leggings and tshirts that have nice maybe I mean naive pictures or patterns on and are comfy.
Next didn't have any leggings at all for the over 5s!

Where do I look?

She'd be happy with a pinafore, denim skirt and some tops and maybe a checked shirt. All sort of classic stuff I thought. But so hard to find today.

Neither of us are ready for her to be dressing in grown up/ fashion-y stuff!

My DDs, 6 and 9, love Zara. But leggings and cutesy t shirts - H&M. Next and M&S are hit and miss. Sometimes you go in and it’s all terrible, other times there’s a few good picks. Also gap.

Look at Asda.

H and M have leggings year round. I buy stuff from there for my 8 year old dd, mainly because she's in 11-12 size stuff and lots of their stuff isn't teenagery or too grown up.
Gap can be good, with a discount.

The ‘mini me’ thing drove me mad when looking for clothes for my DD before she was born. I saw a baby outfit with fluffy, sparkly gilet and skinny ‘jeans’ in 0-3 months.

Sainsburys are hit and miss - have had some nice things for DD but it’s all leggings now (DD is blessed with ‘sturdy’ legs).

M&S do a lot of what you describe, I've see. Loads of pinafores, tops with birds/flowers/foxes/generally childish stuff. Denim skirts, dungarees, lots of leggings and tights. Stock tends to vary depending on where you live. Maybe look online. My local John Lewis also does very age appropriate clothing.

I often get my dd boy's clothes, especially tops, hoodies and joggers. Better quality, with thicker fabric.

Ooh yes, John Lewis have some lovely things. And I have bought DD some trousers from the baby boy section in M&S - lovely comfy trousers with badgers and foxes on them.

I got a cord pinafore dress (with fox tights ) from F&F at Tesco - it was in the baby section though, so don’t know if the older children’s section would have similar items.

It's hard isn't it? I find h&m OK tbh but my dd loves those silly sparkly party skirts from there or little dresses with my little ponies on. So it's not super grown up stuff.
She also likes zara and again it's patterned cartoon character stuff she's drawn to.
I loved m&s when she was smaller but much harder to find wearable things in the older girls section.

I was in John Lewis and they had a lot of that.

If you don’t mind supermarkets then they probably have a lot.

I like Boden, Marks and Spencer and John Lewis with some pretty things from Monsoon. I agree, it can be hard to dress them as children and I don’t like all the grown up clothes either. Plenty of time for that.

Debenhams - you can find some decent stuff among the mini adult selection.

Sometimes it's just they way they team things but when you look they have plenty of leggings and plain or pattered tops in many colours, or cardigans you can team with a skirt and make it look more age appropriate.

To be fair we did try the leggings in H&M as their 3 for 2 stuff is the sort of thing I'm after. But the leggings were all oddly shaped on dd - huge around the waist and tight in the bum! She doesn't have a big bum!

Will look online but the selection of stuff in store was so grown up in Next and M&S, by the time we got to debenhams we'd lost the will somewhat, but nothing jumped out at me.

Totally agree that kids clothes can be like little adults outfits and it’s really such a shame.

Jojo Maman Bebe, John Lewis and Boden have more traditional stuff and clothes that are definitely for kids (e.g. that I don't want in my own size, which sometimes happens with clothes in other shops 😄).

waxon - I've just looked online a leggings at next. The only ones they had in our store had studs, laced bits, ruffles or lacy bits. No straight forward leggings at all!
I asked the assistant and she said 6yo didn't wear leggings! 🙄

It's horrible when they grow out of "young girls" range and you are suddenly hit by mini me stuff. I also refuse to buy anything with cutesy girl slogans if the boys section has things like "awesome" or "here comes trouble" on it. DD has just had a growth spurt so has needed almost a complete new wardrobe in the past few weeks & her bits have come from

I did most of the shopping by myself as it saves rows about how many sequins one girl can wear at any one time! I only got one or two items in each of the above shops as she doesn't need many clothes other than holidays.

Yes! Fecking sequins! Everywhere! Dd loves flicking them back and forth while the clothes are on the hanger but hates the feel of wearing large sections of them on tops!

slimyslitheryslug - what's the sizing like at boden? With 25% off they're a much less eye watering price.

I have a 6 yr old DS and am having the same problem. He is too old for the little kids clothes but is now lumped in with the teen ranges which look awful on him. I’m not trying to baby him but I don’t want him looking like a 16 yr old either. Next is particularly bad for the huge jump in style between younger and older kids ranges.

I shop at asda for my 8 year old girl. Lots of character clothing plus some lovely plain text shirts and plenty of leggings!

I like Boden and JL. But Next do some nice stuff, you just need to pick and choose and avoid the weird little grown-up stuff. I order online as they have a massive selection but doesn't always make it into the shops.
