How to sort my dry lips out? Lip balm doesn't work (pics)

I use lip balm everyday without fail, I’ve tried burts bees, Nivea, Vaseline - among others. I put it on before bed and during the day yet I still have dry patches on my lips. My bottom lip is the worst and actually looks bitty when I apply lipstick. Plus lipstick clings to the dry bits and slides off the other parts of my lips within 30 minutes.
I’ve even tried lip balm under lipstick but still no joy.

What can I do? Is there a magic cream I can use? Fed up with trying to look nice and ending up like a patchy mess within 30 minutes!

Photos aren’t very good but hopefully gives you the idea.

Are you sure it’s not psoriasis or something similar? (If you’ve never had it anywhere else it’s probably not). If you have, you could try hydrocortisone on it for a couple of days. No, you aren’t supposed to use it on lips. Have I done it and not died and cleared up the problem? Yes I have...you decide Grin

Failing that Eucerin or any product containing urea can succeed where everything else fails. Trey do a balm with 10%. Worth a try though you could bankrupt yourself after a post like this trying the recommendations and be no better off so if you have an old battered flexitol heel balm in the back of a drawer use that as it’s the same active ingredient...

Blisteze. As others have said. Don't mistake it for any other blistex product. Often found in the medicines section rather than the lip balm section. Will 100% do the job

Apileofballyhoo · 25/10/2017 16:41

I was going to say about being dehydrated, but you are sure you are not. That's what causes mine sometimes. Salt is also a culprit - I'd watch that.

You could try Pure Potions Skin Salvation Intensive Moisturising Ointment at night. And make sure you are not using a matt lipstick as they dry your lips. Perhaps get a specific moisturing one.

Blackcatonthesofa · 25/10/2017 16:41

Blistex is the only product that works for me

Waddlelikeapenguin · 25/10/2017 16:45

All lipsticks do thst to me...

Gazelda · 25/10/2017 16:51

I keep blistex everywhere - handbags, kitchen, bedroom, coat pocket etc. It’s amazing stuff. I do think you can over-do lip balms, they end up doing more harm than good.

Pyjamasdontfit · 25/10/2017 17:04

I’ve ordered some blistex after all the rave reviews - hope it works.

I agree with pp, I do think the lip balms are making it worse as my lips are starting to depend on it. I’m giving those up!

Yup cold turkey for you I'm afraid.

You've overdosed.

Therealslimshady1 · 25/10/2017 17:09

All lipsticks do this to me, apart from Clinique chubby sticks

I love Korres lip balm, I use the rose one, it really softens lips (and has a nice tint).

Vaseline is ok to help prevent it reoccurring, but does not solve the issue

Titsywoo · 25/10/2017 17:11

I think if you use products too much your body will stop making it's own natural oils. I stop using everything for 6 weeks or so and see what happens. And try not to lick your lips!

user1483644229 · 25/10/2017 17:15

More water, ditch the lipstick and try pawpaw

user1483644229 · 25/10/2017 17:17

I would second the Lansinoh recommendation. There is nothing better for fixing the cracks. Then for maintenance I also love the Blistex in the metal tube, strong smell and might tingle/nip a bit but works great.

strugglingtodomybest · 25/10/2017 17:25

Another vote for Blistex from me. Lip balms make my lips worse.

BagelGoesWalking · 25/10/2017 17:25

Different toothpaste - try the natural Kingfisher brand.

LaBelleSausage · 25/10/2017 17:27

It’s £20, but Clinique All About Lips is what saved mine

BagelGoesWalking · 25/10/2017 17:28

And if you do want a lip balm, this is wonderful (and I’ve tried them all!)

Nuxe

Babymamamama · 25/10/2017 17:33

Use blisteze. Let it really soak in and try not to lick lips.

HorlicksBunny · 25/10/2017 17:36

I came on to recommend Nuxe (the one in the pot) too. My desert island luxury, it's a much thicker texture than normal lip balm sticks and creams - super for dry lips.

Santawontbelong · 25/10/2017 17:37

Body Shop hemp lip balm. .

loopsdefruit · 25/10/2017 17:39

I have horribly dry lips (or did have) the only things that have worked are:

First Aid Beauty daily radiance pads (I use all over my face but also a swipe over lips) to exfoliate, then Lush lip balm

Also if you're using a matte lipstick then a good lip primer under it will help stop it drying so much, and make it last really well

RandomUsernameHere · 25/10/2017 17:40

Another vote for Lansinoh

thecanaries · 25/10/2017 17:48

Nipple cream or Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream which was originally for horse callouses

millifiori · 25/10/2017 17:55

Blistex until the soreness heals and then Palmer's cocoa butter chapstick several times a day as a preventative. That's the only one that doesn't make my lips drier. Nivea, Vaseline, Burt's Bees etc all do.

LemonysSnicket · 25/10/2017 18:01

Blister intensive care.
