Apparently castor oil can help with hair growth including eyebrows and lashes.

I want to try this but I sometimes find it hard to stick to a routine Shock

AtrociousCircumstance · 25/10/2017 22:25

boopsy what type/brand of aloe vera do you use?

For me nip and fab glycolic face pads have completely changed my skin, I don’t have a single black head or flaky skin.

I keep a pot of coconut oil next to bed and use under eyes before I go to sleep. Don’t know if it helps but I like the idea of keep that area hydrated

Only wash my hair once / twice a week but on days that I wash I have coconut oil soaking into my hair for a few hours before. And even though though bleached my hair is very glossy x

Grassfed tallow for face moisturizer. I whip shea butter, grassfed tallow, olive oil, emu oil (and a bit of lanolin as an occlusive) together. Forms an extremely hydrating moisturizer after oil cleansing w/ avocado oil.
I'm very into animal oils and fats for moisturizing because they more closely mimic our skins oils than plant.

Raw Honey for the odd breakout, been used for centuries to clean wounds and draw bacteria out.

Kefir face masks. Helps provide the skin with good bacteria, hydrates with the milk and softens with the lactic acids it contains.

JaneJeffer · 25/10/2017 23:47

Do you just apply the kefir straight from the bottle Dust? I've got some in the fridge.

My tip is Johnson's Top to Toe Baby Wash for shaving legs.

Dustbunny1900 · 26/10/2017 01:06

Yep! Some people mix it with other ingredients but I haven't tried that yet

JaneJeffer · 26/10/2017 01:11

Thanks! Maybe if I actually got some sleep instead of being on here I wouldn't need beauty tips Grin

Soap instead of shower gel. Feel much cleaner. Some people say it has helped with those red KP spots on arms etc. And if you are prone to getting a bit sweaty and whiffy it helps a lot. Shower gel leaves a film on th skin which can interfere with deodorants. There are some gorgeous soaps around. But not Dove which is technically not a soap. Less plastic bottles in landfill too which is always good. Lovely addictive thread in S&B.

The Nivea thick cream linked to and mentioned above is allegedly practically the same as Creme De Le Mer. Only one or two (very expensive) ingredients are different. My mum always used the most re liquid Nivea on her neck and reckoned it helped her not get any lines on her neck.

I used to use Vaseline to take off eye make up years ago. Or baby oil.

Olive oil and sugar makes a great scrub. You can add essential oils to make it smell nice. My hands get really dry and rough in winter and I just put a teaspoon of sugar in my palm, add some olive oil to make a paste and rub into my hands and rinse well. I do it over the kitchen sink so not messy. Makes any hand cream work better.

I use a glaucoma eye drops for my eyelashes. My dermatologist thinks I am crazy and ask me to only do it a few months a year but it works. I have the longest thickest eyelashes now.
Less dangerous ones are aspirin for spots, coffee leftovers (even the ones from Costa for the plants) are excellent body scrub. Much better than many many brands. Also homemade vit C serums.
I avoid coconut as it breaks me out and makes my hair super lanky and greasy. Meh.

Henrysmycat · 26/10/2017 10:11

sugar even the caster can irritate the skin. It's very harsh for skins. avoid.

I put savlon on any spots that look like they're coming up - it gets rid of them almost overnight. Or if it's too big to get rid of, it will bring it to a head that you can squeeze. Then apply more savlon to clear it up in days.

AtrociousCircumstance · 26/10/2017 13:29

Thanks boopsy Smile

I had to lie flat on my back for a day due to back pain - my face looked a lot younger!

morningconstitutional2017 · 26/10/2017 15:56

To Bluebellgal The lady I asked uses almond oil and says it's very cheap at any supermarket, or perhaps a health food shop.

BertramTheWalrus · 26/10/2017 18:36

Henry re the glaucoma drops - how did you discover that?!

I find soap makes me smell fresh for much longer than shower gel. It's also much cheaper.

My favourite beauty secret is using vinegar as a conditioner. Just dilute half a mug full in around 2 litres of water and rinse your hair with it after you've washed all the shampoo out. Don't rinse afterwards! I promise you won't smell of vinegar. I have very frizzy hair and this has been a complete game changer. I've actually had people comment on how glossy my hair is!
