Honest opinions about my hair colour (and how old I look btw)

PinkLipsDontLie · 22/10/2017 13:57

My hair is naturally cool brown. Here it s dyed a tone lighter on top and the ends are balayaged blonder. I have very thin hair as you can see. My eyes are hazel, mostly olive green with a little light brown. I was ash blonde for many years but I am now a brunette as I missed it a lot. I just dont know what shade of brown to go for so that i dont look boring/frumpy. Should I go darker, lighter, or as is? Also one colour or balayage again? Please also post inspiration pics if you have any.
One last thing: inspired by the other thread, how old do I look? Absolutely no filters in the pic.

toomany you have totally flawless skin! So envious. I’d say you’re mid to late 30s?

Poppyfields21 · 22/10/2017 16:27

pinklips I think you’re early-mid 30s. Hair wise I think this would suit you:

@ILostItInTheEarlyNineties I think Uma' s hairstyle was very aging in this movie! I d never go that short too. Thanks anyway!

I’d say you’re early 30’s? And very pretty. That lipstick looks lovely on you.
I really like second the pic Ellapaella posted and think it’s suit you. I do think blonde would suit you too.

Toomanylists you remind me of Geri Halliwell when she was a bit younger! You have lovely curls.

Theseaweed · 22/10/2017 16:40

You have a lovely face. I also think you should go a darker, richer colour and I would also go for an edgier look. Sharp bob and heavy fringe.

Theseaweed · 22/10/2017 16:41

Age, it doesn't really matter as you look lovely. If pushed between 38 & 42.

polyhymnia · 22/10/2017 16:43

I think a dark blonde with some lighter highlights would look good on you. You may, like me, be between warm and cold.
Or a richer, more varied brown. And a more interesting cut, definitely a bit shorter and at least a bit less scraped back - a messy bob with side fringe would look good on you IMO. It's just all too flat at the moment.
Age - late 30s- earlyish 40s.

PinkLipsDontLie · 22/10/2017 16:44

@Poppyfields21 thank you! I like your suggestions a lot! I am a little afraid of the impact of blonde highlights to the hair and I don't miss the upkeep needed. But I am kinda drooling..

@SummerRoberts thanks so much! Need to find more longish bob pictures of brunettes. Cant go too short i will have a heart attack at the sight. I am scared of going short as I associate longer hair with femininity.

Come on then OP, spill. How old are you?

  • impatient
Dustbunny1900 · 22/10/2017 16:47

Maybe lowlights, so it's not a dark harsh block of color?
I've dyed my hair every color under the sun and found I look healthiest and youngest w a mix of low lights and highlights, no more than two shades away from my natural color, and if you're cool-toned definitely don't try and go warm! I'm a soft summer and reddish hair made me look ruddy and sick

Too many, I'd say early 40s. And you too are beautiful, I love your thick full hair

Lelleybells · 22/10/2017 16:48

You look lovely. I would guess 32 and I’m a bit crap with hair but I would say maybe a nice short bob with some longer layers to give it a bit of oomph

PinkLipsDontLie · 22/10/2017 16:48

@Theseaweed thanks! I like sharper hair but i dont think i have enough there to cut a heavy fringe.

@polyhymnia your opinion is very close to what I think of myself hairwise. I feel its always scraped back and not flattering. Need to Google messy Bob with side fringe now.

PinkLipsDontLie · 22/10/2017 17:01

Oh @puppymonkey you are right I should spill..

My actual age is (drum roll).......

........37! And a half.

Burnedoutmum and JesusTapdancingChrist were the first correct guesses! Thanks to each and every one of you, even the ones that guessed 45 (gulp!) It's your guess and theres no right or wrong. In real life I always get told by both men and women that I look 30-32. They also judge by my disposition, clothing and face closeup in natural light. Going to drink two large glasses of water now and put some face oil on, as the 40+ guesses were far too many lol.

I am still accepting suggestions about my hair though. That was the intention of the post. I love that you suggest haircuts as well. I am in full investigation mode.

I said mid 30s - I am brilliant Grin

NameWithChange · 22/10/2017 17:22

Hi Op, I have fine hair too and have opted for short but understand you don't want to.

I think you need a couple of inches off the end to make it a bit fuller and lose the dry bits, and personally I would warm it up with some darker colours and a bit red. Hope that helps!

Theseaweed · 22/10/2017 17:41

Pink, I think your hair would look thicker with a shorter style and a fringe. A darker colour would add depth too. You could carry off this sort of thing without looking frumpy as you have good bone structure.

Sorry can't work out how to tag the photo without the link 😐

NameWithChange · 22/10/2017 17:46

Here's the photo Seaweed.

I agree with you completely! But as OP's hair isn't as thick as the photo I think some lowlights in darker browns and reddish to give it some depth.

Thank you Name Change! 😁

PinkLipsDontLie · 22/10/2017 18:01

@NameWithChange and @Theseaweed I find your opinions very helpful indeed. The model in the image is stunning, I wish I could pull this one off.. But not confident enough. BUT... if I add an inch or two.. could this work with a side fringe? aren't straight fringes a bit severe? Am I prejudiced? I mean it's hiding half the face, wouldnt the same model have a more alluring look with a little more face on show?

OP posts:
NameWithChange · 22/10/2017 18:06

I'm afraid I'm the wrong person to ask a balanced opinion of fringes - I love them! I can see you would want it a bit longer overall than the photo, but I really think it would suit your face and with some type of fringe too to give it a bit more shape. Go for it!

PinkLipsDontLie · 22/10/2017 18:19

@puppymonkey Star you are brilliant! hehe

I ve been googling and I got serious hair envy although it's always the gorgeous model, isn't it?

The elisha cuthbert pic purely for the fringe/cut. not the colour.

I love the colour and cut of the first two and maybe some lowlights/highlights as many of you suggested. The models seem to have them too. What do you think?

Ooh yes all three of those cuts would really suit you - jealous as all my hair can do is corkscrew curl so a style is out really for me. I like number 1 the best - looks funky and with high and low lights it would really edgy.
Whoever said I have good skin - Poppy- I so don't! The power of damp mineral powder applied on top of aloe Vera gel primer - my skin underneath is bumpy, very textured as I battle with acne and rosacea. So you have made my day with your kind comment. I think my photo is very flattering as subdued backlit lighting - if you guys saw me with overhead lighting it would be a different story - I actually have e eye bags and desperate nose to mouth lines - someone guessed ny age bang on - 45. Flattered that a lot of you put me younger but early 30s would be majorly pushing it if you saw me in real life! Think I'm going to get some warm low lights put through my balayage ends - thanks guys.
And OP, you don't look 37 at all - just carry on doing what you're doing as it's clearly working!

Theseaweed · 22/10/2017 19:16

I'm similar to Name Change as in I love fringes too. A fringe can soften a face even if it's 'severe' or blunt. I really think it's the way to go.
A couple of inches longer than the photo would be fine too.

PinkLipsDontLie · 22/10/2017 20:08

@Toomanylists thanks so much for your input and for the copliment! You don't look 45 too as I already said so well done! We all have days when we look 10yrs older, but it really doesn't matter. Only our health does. About the hair, My hairdresser is out drinking, but I already sent her the pic. Would be fun if I knew her drunk opinion :). Glad you approve!

@Theseaweed you are totally encouraging me to be more adventurous. I usually chicken out regarding hair and never touch them much. I think I should get back to this thread and post the result of your recommendations. Planning for an appointment around Halloween.
