Pretty or granny?

This isn't quite as bubblegum pink as it looks but do the stars and sequins and pearls on the neck make it a bit "granny trying to be fun"?
As an aside, why do even expensive ranges (this isn't) only put the decorations on the front? It can make things look cheap.

Theimpossiblegirl, I'm not going to lie. I'm counting the days until elasticated loose comfy trousers are in.

Me too. Maybe it's the knitwear/sparkle combo..sorry.

I've really enjoyed reading this thread. As a closet granny myself, I say wear what you like, OP.
But I am taking the negative comments on board Grin.

The shoes are gorgeous!

Nettletheelf · 21/10/2017 21:48

I’m a bit Amazonian to carry off Minnie Mouse shoes but they would look great on some people (including the OP, I’m sure)

It immediately reminded me of Dolores Umbridge from Harry Potter.

The pink one is a fairly classic shape and, while the colour is bright, there are some people who would really suit it (with jeans, as per upthread), so long as they're young, slim and probably blonde. I'm middle aged and dumpy with dark salt and pepper hair and pale pink skin and would look dreadful in it. Even with jeans.

The blue has a very high neckline, not enough bling to really have a decent impact and looks pretty shapeless. The colour is also a fairly harsh school uniform blue. It most definitely screams of 60 something with bad hair dye job, polyester slacks and matching handbag, off out on a Saturday night. My own 60 something mum wouldn't wear it.

That first one would look lovely in grey, btw.

And those shoes are terrifying.

Cardi is total granny. Jumper is lovely. Team with skinny jeans and. Converse or ankle boots. I'm 35 and would total wear it.

Dancinggoat · 21/10/2017 23:46

I think I get the style you love. It’s quite retro. Pencil skirts or cropped jeans , ruby shoes with a fitted cardi / jumper. It’s quite a 50s look. In that case the cardi and jumper are just right for it. Cardi good over a swing dress too.

otherdoor · 22/10/2017 08:07

I quite like the cardi, including the colour! The pink one not so much, but mostly because I just ignore anything that shade of pink when shopping as it really wouldn't suit me.

I have never understood the MN style rules and I'm not sure they're reflective of what people would say/think in 'real life', tbh. But what do I know.

Fairylea · 22/10/2017 08:30

Being honest I think the tops are so bad because they’re the wrong shape. If you look at what’s “in” new on asos and new look all the shapes are boxy and non fitted. And oversized. Anything fitted like that automatically makes it look more old fashioned and classic. Nothing wrong with classic, but it can age someone if you’re not careful.
