How fat is too fat for jeans?

genericname · 15/10/2017 18:45

I wear dresses that are knee length because I think 'I can be fat and wear horrible clothes or I can be fat and wear this nice thing', but for some reason I don't wear jeans.

My legs are massive. I usually wear a size 18/20 top/dress. I just measured my legs and it's 27 inches round the middle of my thigh and 19 on my calf! Blush

I do however need casual stuff to schlep about in and to wear to the park/shops etc.

Am I just too fat thorough? Will you be able to see my cellulite?

Yeah I haven’t measured my thighs recently, it nobody’s too fat for jeans. Hope they look good - love M&S jeans

sourpatchkid · 15/10/2017 20:03

I'm size 20 and wear Asda jeans - weirdly I look better in skinny jeans than most other things - as PP said above, I'm a big girl in whatever I wear, we won't look skinny but we aren't - we can still rock jeans though Smile(and no, PP I didn't read your post as offensive 😊)

Paintbox · 15/10/2017 20:04

Thanks sourpatch!

LemonysSnicket · 15/10/2017 20:08

When you can’t find a pair that fits or you feel uncomfortable .

genericname · 15/10/2017 20:23

Not offensive at all Paintbox!

I'm not a size 20 trying to look size 10, I just want to look like an awesome size 20 Smile

I think it depends on body shape too. I’m a size 14 pear with quite short legs and I always feel rather fat in jeans, even if I slim down. Some people I know wear larger sizes but are apple shaped and have longer legs, so they can look great in a floaty top and skinnies. I think thicker denim is far more forgiving and always end up with indigo jeans as they seem to be the most slimming.

Paintbox · 15/10/2017 21:42

No reason why you can't look an awesome size 20 op Smile

itsbetterthanabox · 15/10/2017 22:58

Are you pear or apple shaped?
If pear then the cut for pear jeans at Evans are amazing.

Ginkypig · 16/10/2017 00:10

My opinion is there is no too big for jeans.
You just need to find a pair to suit your size and shape.

For me I find kick-flares or the right type of bootcut suit me and balance my thighs but feel very hip heavy in skinny jeans. Although they sort of look ok when I'm smaller and wearing the right type of top. And straight or boyfriend jeans can look awful on me.

That rule was the same for me at a size 20 or size 12 (and every size in between)

burntoutmum · 16/10/2017 09:38

I’m a size 18 and live in Jeans. I would love to have the confidence to wear dresses!!

MrsLogicFromViz · 16/10/2017 09:41

I am a 16/18 and 5ft 9in. Sainsbury's Tu £15 skinnies (minus 25% a few times a year!) Fit nicely in a 16L. They are so stretchy and rather vanity sized. Smile

Hollystyrene · 16/10/2017 12:26

Kin jeans at John Lewis are really flattering and very stretchy - they go up to a size 18.

Hollystyrene · 16/10/2017 12:28

Sorry, I don't mean they go up to a size 18 - that's a fucking stupid way of expressing it. They are available in a size 18.

notapizzaeater · 16/10/2017 15:53

I love the thin stretchy jeans from primark and they are available up to a 20.

I eat jeans rubbing between the legs and I don’t mind as they are so cheap

Laura2018 · 16/10/2017 15:54

From personal experience I dont look good in anything over a size 10. But all bodies are different so wear what you feel good in 🌸

RealHousewifeOfLapland · 16/10/2017 16:00

I like Simply Be jeans. I am currently size 20/22 apple shape so go for the bootcut jeggings ( which are really just stretchy jeans without a zip). I wear them with tunics, duster jacket etc in plain colours but dress them up with fancy boots and scarf or "statement" necklace. Havent worn a dress in years, wouldnt know where to start!!

Paintbox · 16/10/2017 16:28

Laura, you don't look good in anything over a size 10? What do you mean?

Laura2018 · 16/10/2017 16:39

Paintbox personally my body looks sh*t in jeans (and most things) if I put on weight and go up to a size 12. I look my best at a size 8 but can just about get away being a 10. My legs look really chunky in jeans if I go over a 10. Everyones different 🌸

Paintbox · 16/10/2017 16:41

Yes everyone is different but I'm sure you don't look awful as a size 12

dingdongdigeridoo · 16/10/2017 16:41

ASOS Curve do some excellent plus size jeans. I brought some stretchy skinny jeans from there and they are great bum lifters, plus they've washed really well.

George jeggings and sculpting jeans are also excellent. Cheap and cheerful, but don't tend to last as long before they look a bit faded.

Simply Be are hit and miss. They do a lot of different cuts in different lengths, so that's a real bonus, as plus size ranges can be limited.

primitivemom · 16/10/2017 17:58

Which m&s jeans are the best for curves? there are so many to choose! Smile

millifiori · 16/10/2017 19:15

@primitivemom - the relaxed skinnies are great if you have big thighs, but they can't resist mucking about with 'fashion' tweaks. they used to do really plain relaxed skinnies but last time I looked they were covered in holes and diamante which isn't to my everyone's taste.

primitivemom · 16/10/2017 19:19

Thanks Milli x

SukiTheDog · 16/10/2017 19:31

I’m a 16 and have recently started wearing jeans. I don’t look good in them but they’re comfy (I’ve got Gap/Sainsbury’s/Fat Face). I’m 5ft 6 and have regular and short in length. I wear fine knit tops over them with t shirts underneath.

OP, please wear what you want. Really, you should 😊

genericname · 16/10/2017 20:19

Ok well the m&s high waist skinnies arrived - so much better than the mid rise ones! The high waist ones are right round the legs but reckon they'll stretch and loads comfier round the tummy. And cheaper too!

Am going to wear with a new top I bought in Anthropologie and a nice classic green parka with superga or vans. Shall report back on how I feel wearing them out and about! (Probably not til the weekend)
