Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

NEWish since previous threads:

Understanding Which Sunscreen(s) to Buy

Do I Really Need to Wear Sunscreen Every Single Day of the Year?

NEW since the last thread:

A Damaged Skin Barrier - Now What?

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

OCTOBER 2017: It's our snailaversary Cake! Our baby ripe toddler skins are about a year old now, or rather getting together on these threads about a year ago. I can't believe we're all still finding things to chat on about between the hair disasters. I know I always encourage a bit of catching up at the beginning of the new thread with how everyone's skin been progressing over the last couple of weeks/months but now I'm demanding more Blush and would really like to hear how everyone is doing a year on now, or however long you've been with us. Basically, pledge your undying love for these threads Grin

NB: I've removed the form from the OP as I felt there really wasn't a need for it anymore. I think I've also answered enough of those forms in their previous incarnation for a lifetime so it may just be a selfish decision but it's been made Halo

Thanks Bo. No, I don't believe I am dehydrated. It's more that my skin feels under nourished with the change of season. A couple of moisturisers which I felt would give me what I need haven't done so. am really liking the Elta MD PM Moisturiser.

I've not done a mask for yonks actually; months. I think I will do one tonight. I only really have clay masks (black which I used in the T zone, and pink). I do have an Una Brennan rose mask which I might use later.

Just feel I'm after something really nourishing and juicy... it's as if I'm missing a step. I have actually scaled back. Routine is very simple atm.

Pupsiecola · 13/11/2017 20:26

Is it this one bo?

I recently got into buying pumpkin seed flour that's made from pumpkin seeds that have been pressed for their oils so they're not as high fat as normal pumpkin seeds but have a much higher amount of protein. I just use them as I would almond flour elsewhere. I had a recipe somewhere to use it for a shortbread base and then a set pumpkin chocolate custardy sort of thing on top. Must find it again.

My Skyr is really acidic, a little too acidic sometimes. It's thick but nowhere near as thick as Greek yoghurt but it's not really authentic. It's made by some Organic hippies locally using an Icelandic recipe riding the Skyr wave. I've never tried any other brand actually. They also make a drink version which is the consistency of buttermilk that makes great pancakes.

Pupsie, have you tried applying moisturiser to damp skin?

botemp · 13/11/2017 20:36

I actually meant this one, Pupsie. Either one could work though. It's probably also worth browsing the holiday gift selections on Sephora, they're really good value if you don't have to ship them here and pay import taxes.

That kit from Sephora is the one I got via DH, Bo. I tried the day cream with SPF yesterday and found my skin tight as heck by mid-afternoon. I was beginning to fear it might be the C serum (similar effect as the TO 30%) but today I used: DE C serum with a drop of the hydration gel, Pestle & Mortar HA, Dermalogica skin smoothing cream and my trusty Nivea SPF. Skin didn't feel as tight...but I also used setting powder on my makeup and I think at this time of year I am best to go without, so I will try that tomorrow.

Pupsiecola · 13/11/2017 22:22

I keep finding myself drawn to the Clarins Double Serum Blush. It must be the Turmeric Confused. I'm on the hunt... my current routine is?

Cleanse
Moisturise

Cleanse (sometimes double)
P50/PC BHA once or twice a week
HA if I can be arsed
Moisturise

It's a bit dull really, isn't it?

Hit me up with some suggestions. (Sorry. I have a teen and a tween. This is the sort of lingo I am exposed to).

Pupsiecola · 13/11/2017 22:23

I am also drawn to pretty much all of these. In fact, they are making my mouth water.

I am in the skincare doldrums, aren't I. Flowers Cake

Pupsiecola · 13/11/2017 22:30

I miss my pink Darphin. I'm going to bed. Sad

BagelGoesWalking · 13/11/2017 23:59

Pupsie me and DD18 (just) pretty much sound like episodes of Buffy/Angel mixed in with Hamilton references sometimes Grin

Has anyone here (Botemp, counting on you) tried Blithe Pressed Tundra Serumm* if I ever feel really rich I want to try it out.

Tsmummy08 · 14/11/2017 08:28

Pupsie Yes, Mark Manson - it's a good read so far, although I have the feeling it's going to take a couple of reads through before I'm able to absorb it properly.... And I know what you mean about needing something more juicy at the moment - my skin's feeling and looking a bit parched. I should probably try drinking more water but tea is much more appealing :)

Pupsiecola · 14/11/2017 09:01

I do drink over 3 litres of water a day. I just realised I keep buying moisturisers, but I am missing a serum. My moisturisers do have Nia in, so I am getting that active in.

My skin defo feels dry though. Unbearably tight after cleansing etc. I did the mask last night and I felt v tight after that too. I slathered some Cicaplast in and it literally drank it.

Happy to spend a bit on a outstanding product. And of course I will be re-adding a Vit C next month.

EnidButton · 14/11/2017 10:53

The thread fell off my Threads I’m On! Shock

I had literally zero sleep last night so feeling rough isn’t the word. Also, I washed my face somewhere that definitely had soft water. It was like trying to wash with clouds. I realise why some people think the LRP toleriane leaves a residue now. My water at home is supposed to be soft according to the water website but it seems hard. Most odd.

EnidButton · 14/11/2017 10:56

What does applying moisturiser to damp skin do? Is it that ‘lock in mousture’ thing people talk about when they say to apply body moisturiser straight after a shower?

EnidButton · 14/11/2017 11:03

I tried the fresh soy cleanser Pupsie and it was very drying. I can see why you are attracted to them though. I like the look of their lip balms.

Feck it, I triple posted but I’m sat in a hospital waiting room in stifling heat with someone praying loudly next to me. I need the distraction.

botemp · 14/11/2017 11:25

I've tried it on the back of my hand, Bagel, does that count? It was a very odd texture, custardy almost. Twas nice but not the price they're asking for it nice and I preferred the Ice Plant version which was super light and super thirst quenching hydrating, but then it was summer at the time. Really dry skin will like the Tundra one but I'm not sure about other skin types really.

Pupsie, Bagel mentioning an essence is actually making me think you may like that. I used to love the Missha one but didn't RP as it contains quite a high % Niacinamide and seemed a bad combo with TO Vit C (I used it with other Vit C with no issues, but TO was quite specific about it). It basically relies on fermented yeasts (like Estee Lauder ANR) a bit of HA and a few other skin restoring ingredients. It's really light (like water essentially) so you can choose to build up in layers if you are wanting more without it being heavy. It is a bit hit and miss though, it does magical things for me some, nothing for others, the best way I find to tell is how much your skin likes ANR or not which is easy enough to get a sample of and despite the name does perfectly well during the day.

Can I get a brief rundown on the art of not giving a f*ck philosophy? Mostly asking because I'm often told I'm good at this Confused (in relation to the value I put in other's opinion of me, not much unless it's someone whose opinion I highly value and that list is terribly short) but I always consider it a bit of an underhanded statement of not being empathetic or caring

Pupsiecola · 14/11/2017 13:31

The lip balms are lovely Enid.

I am going to try to get a sample of EL ANR then.

Is the Clarins Double Serum worth a look?

My intermittent patch of eczema on my elbow is awful atm too. Worse than it's ever been. And my hands feels dry.

EnidButton · 14/11/2017 14:34

Pupsie They’ll do samples of the Clarins double serum, I’m sure of it. I feel like I had a couple years back but never used it so can’t advise. I didn’t get on with ANR but feel like I should try it again now my basics are covered. I bought it when I was throwing everything at my face in the hope something would do something.

Grin thanks bo. That makes sense. I’ll try that later. Not at the hospital now thank goodness. There’s never any air in those places, my skin feels a bit parched now.

I really like the Bioderma shower oil. Skin isn’t as tight feeling straight afterwards and it’s smoothed my chest and clavicle area nicely as I can’t seem to use moisturiser there.

JDSTER · 14/11/2017 14:34

Hi everyone. I’ve just caught up with the last few pages- life has been busy. I’ve got a new bathroom but a few minor jobs still to do in there before I can put my products away in their new home. I’ve got under sink storage that I’ve never had before, as well as two new cabinets.

Pupsie could I have medik 8 Vit C if you haven’t had any takers? I’ve been wanting to try the brand. I’m pretty sure I’ve got an ANR sample I could send you. I tried clarins double serum when it first came out (and they’ve no doubt tinkered with formula since then) and it had zero effect on my skin- waste of money imho. You mentioned Una Brennan rose face mask. I love that- I’ve got some left but they’ve discontinued it haven’t they?

Pupsiecola · 14/11/2017 15:29

Hi JDSTER,

I was just thinking "oh dear, I've put everyone off wanting my Vit C". You are very welcome to it. Please DM me your address. Yes please to the ANR sample. Thank you! But if it's one you think I can easily pick up in store then don't worry too much.

The double serum has been reformulated without mineral oil. I used Clarins products exclusively for about 15 years. Maybe that's what's tempting me.

The Una Brennan Rose Mask didn't do much to quench my thirsty skin last night.

JDSTER · 14/11/2017 15:44

Will do pupsie. ANR sample is probably at least 15ml (not at home right now) which I don’t think they just give away.

Pupsiecola · 14/11/2017 17:01

In that case yes please! Will reply to your DM with my address 😀

mintmagnummm · 14/11/2017 18:49

My skin also not very well at mo after being at Hosp all day sun and all afternoon today. Feels parched, looks red and got the dehydration shine! Sad

userallusedup · 14/11/2017 19:09

I’ve been down with a heavy cold/sinusitis for a week, feel a bit better today though it’s still lingering and really starting to piss me off now.

My Vichy Vit c arrived but I’ve lacked the motivation to try it, might do tomorrow morning as my skin is not good at the moment - dull and sallow from lack of fresh air and dry, scaly patches round my nose and mouth. I’ve been mostly managing to keep to a basic cleanse and moisturise routine, but there were a couple of days when I felt so crap that I didn’t bother doing anything Blush and I’m paying the price now.

Hope you’re ok Mint Flowers

Pupsiecola · 14/11/2017 19:45

Dr Sam featured the Bioderma Hydrabio in her winter skincare for under £15 video earlier. I do love it very much. I will use that consistently for the next week and see if it helps. I still want a juicy hero serum though!
