@cathyandclare doooo it sorry for enabling the skirt is super comfy versatile and washes really well. Oh and comfy.

neveradullmoment99 · 05/10/2017 08:40

Black tights are neutral in general unless you are wearing navy. The only thing i would hesitate wearing thick black opaques with is a maybe very pale skirt. I would wear a more sheer black if you can get away with it.

neveradullmoment99 · 05/10/2017 08:41

If i had a navy skirt i would opt for tan boots and navy tights or i have worn navy tights and black boots.

Black and white striped, high-waisted midi tube skirt with a pink/purple/orange/navy/teal watercolour-style cami top tucked in and a black long-sleeve fine-knit cardigan

BinkyandBunty · 05/10/2017 08:54

A black and ivory vertical stripe A line, knee length skirt. Worn with black fitted cardi, tights and ballet flats.

I can't do knee length boots with skirts and dresses - makes me look middle aged frumpy. (This is possibly because I'm middle aged and frumpy!)

Yesterday I wore a pencil skirt in mid-grey, dark grey tights, mid-grey slouchy ankle boots with a block heel, and a pale lilac blouse tucked in. I like this structured look, though I tend to soften it by wearing a slightly drapey top that tucks loosely. I find trousers more difficult (apart from stretchy skinny jeans) because they have to fit in so many dimensions to look good – hips, waist, thighs, calves, leg length, waist height, etc.

Cocolepew · 05/10/2017 09:20

I wore a dress yesterday, first time with tights. I usually only wear them in the summer.
It was a lightweight denim shirt dress from Asda. I had a stripey top on underneath and soft knit tights from Primark.
I wore a pair of olive coloured Fly London ankle boots, I like a clumpy boot.

Black midi length tube skirt with big chunky tan wool jumper, tan leather longish boots and black tights. I'm not really a skirt person but like them with boots in winter

emsiewill · 05/10/2017 12:28

Thanks for all of the waistline advice - will take it all on board next time I'm clothes shopping.

Debby08 · 05/10/2017 12:50

I like the navy blue midi skirt from Toast. So comfy looking!

Caulkheadupnorf · 05/10/2017 12:57

I’m always in skirts.

My favourites are black tube skirts from H&M, cord skirts from white stuff/fat face and some simple cotton ones either that I’ve made or are from oasis.

Colour wise if it's for work I'm often in head to toe navy: shoes, tights, skirt and top. Or black shoes, tights and dress. I sometimes have a different coloured top or dress on but shoes and tights always match in the winter. I'm short though, a taller colleague wears bright shoes with dark tights and skirt and it looks fab. So whatever you like really!

Same with tucking in, I'm a size 10 hourglass so prefer blouses and t-shirts tucked in and would only wear a short jumper or cardigan with a skirt. But my apple friend always wears tunic dresses or blouses out over a skirt and looks fab.

Appuskidu · 06/10/2017 16:39

Can I just do a mini hijack and ask how people deal with the waist line when they wear skirts? I never know whether to tuck or not to tuck, and tops are the wrong length (too long and they look wrong, too short and I feel my belly is on show).

Never tucked in! Unless you are a size 6, I think that doesn't look good. I just have 'skirt' tops that I have bought or altered so that they sit just above the hip-I only ever wear them with skirts!

Boo-hoo ruched dress for me today- roughly knee length, navy. Worn with a navy and white casual blazer and navy scarf. Had a few meetings for which I needed to look smart.

PookieSnackenberger · 06/10/2017 21:16

I've converted my love of trousers at work to dresses. 1 item, tights and boots/shoes. So easy and nothing to think about.

Today I wore a cocoon dress (pockets!) with a dipped hem by KIN at John Lewis. They always do these each season and they are soooo comfy. I size down two sizes as they are enormous.

Falke black opaque tights

Black suede heeled ankle boots with a small platform.

I also like slim stretch skirts, opaques, loafers, hip length top and a blazer/long structured cardigan

Bluesheep8 · 07/10/2017 08:34

Dress down day at work so I wore a short denim skirt, above the knee, light brown/taupe cable knit tights, tan lace up boots to mid calf and a coral fluffy jumper. Only really wear casual skirts/dresses.

Floisme · 07/10/2017 10:31

I've lived in tube skirts with ankle boots and opaques for the last few winters but I've given them up for now as I was getting in a rut. I'm wearing mostly trousers at the moment but I've got 3 midi skirts to wear in the winter, all second hand or charity shop buys: a Viivienne Westwood - one of her wonky looking ones, a Toast one that's quite full-skirted and a wool kilt from the Edinburgh Wool Mill. (You can save your Miss Marple / Barbara Woodhouse jibes - they're both cool in my book.)

I'll wear the kilt with ankle boots as it's quite long but the other two are mid calf length and I'm going to wear them with knee length boots - was explaining why on the ankle boot thread but basically I think it's a neater silhouette and I prefer it.

Floisme · 07/10/2017 10:44

I also think skirts are easier to wear than dresses which I think are totally over rated. If you're an even slightly irregular shape they never fit properly; they always need washing so they're high maintenance and half the time you still have to faff about finding something to wear on top and that's a complete nightmare if it fucks with the neckline. I am so over them.

TriHard27 · 07/10/2017 10:52

Burgungy leather skirt with skinny black jumper, tights and slouchy calf boots here. Black tops and shortish fitted / flippy skirts with tights and boots tend to be my uniform in the winter but can generally be worn anywhere and match everything so I buy a few different skirts / coats / pairs of boots and rotate them so that my outfits are easy.

Jemimapuddleduk · 07/10/2017 10:52

I have a plum cord skirt on (a line ish, above knee), black tights, boots and a pink/cream/plum animal print top.

Jolonglegs · 07/10/2017 10:56

Mainly wear skirts, rarely dresses. Going shopping today and wearing a black A line skirt from M&S with black woolly tights and long boots, and a white chunky top. Nice and cosy.

EraArils · 07/10/2017 12:39

Burgundy wool midi ribbed tube skirt from Uniglo with oversized dark grey mohair jumper, black tights and black DM shoes. I love these skirts from Uniglo. When it gets colder I'll wear with mid calf boots.

Judydreamsofhorses · 07/10/2017 23:07

Today I wore a black leather a-line skirt (above the knee) with black opaques with grey pin-spots, a black fitted jumper, and black Stan Smith trainers. Dark blue denim jacket when out.

CountFosco · 08/10/2017 20:52

Today I'm wearing a yellow pleated skirt with a navy slouchy jumper, navy tights and flat Chelsea boots. My DDs love my skirt!
