Nose piercing... yay or nay?

Just that really? What do you think of nose (nostril) piercings?
I've wanted my nose pierced (nostril, I'd only want a little stud) for a really long time, maybe 2 years or so, on and off, but I keep getting second thoughts Blush I'm 23, but I'm not really a cool 23, I live in joules and Barbour and wellies and I'm just not very exciting in general so I worry I'd look a bit... out of place with a nose piercing. even writing that I feel a bit daft Blush
Do you like them? Hate them? Are they a bit 90s? Shall I just do it and stop being such an over-thinky drama queen?

After decades of similar over thinking about nose piercings - which I've always liked - I finally hit my 40s and stopped giving a shit what other people thought. I got the nose piercing. I'm sure some people think it looks crap/stupid/like I'm having a mid life crisis but I don't care. Do YOU like it? That's the main thing. Oh and getting it done somewhere proper with a needle.

EverythingEverywhere1234 · 01/10/2017 12:44

Yea, that's the daft thing, I normally don't give a fuck about what other people think so this is weird for me. Good for you for doing it Grin I've already done my research on a really decent place as I'm getting my daith done too, in the probably vain hope it might help with my chronic pain... trying anything at this stage!

Agree with AuntL. I don't have a nose piercing (yet). I am nearly 50 and want mine done.

AuntLydia · 01/10/2017 12:45

The other thing I noticed was lots of people have a small nose stud - people of all ages, shapes, sizes and styles and I've never once looked at someone and thought 'that really doesn't suit you'. I kind of think they suit everyone.

Lenl · 01/10/2017 12:47

I have a small silvee stud in my nose. I really like it and feel it brightens my face. I am also boring. When I got it done in my teens I was a bit more interesting but not anymore. Rather than it looking out of place I feel it does the opposite, adds some personality to my otherwise fairly dull neutral look. Go for it! It doesn't really hurt either. Just wash with cooled boiled sea salt water and a cotton bud a couple of times a day to begin with.

EverythingEverywhere1234 · 01/10/2017 13:49

Yea, I think I will go for it! If I hate it, which I doubt very much, I can always take it out I suppose!

If you want one go for it. I don't like them myself, and think they add nothing to the way someone looks. But that is my problem not yours.

I also get a runny nose every time I exercise and when it is cold outside, and blow my nose a lot so a nose stud would be very impractical for me. I really dislike septum piercings. They just look grubby to me.

CatsOclock · 01/10/2017 13:57

I've always liked them (and I'm not big on messing with the body, generally speaking). For some reason though, I only like the left side done. I would also caution you to check the piercer's placement before she/he does it - don't assume they would put it where you would want it. My friend had to change the pen mark 2 or 3 times before she was happy.

splendidisolation · 01/10/2017 16:16

I had a nose piercing but felt after awhile that it just kinda took over my face too much. It depends how your face is structured.

I do think a stud is too 90s, better a ring.

splendidisolation · 01/10/2017 16:19

Oh and for what its worth since you're asking for opinions, I do think they look weird on "non styled" people.
Have you got your ears pierced? If so i would recommend getting a second set of holes plus the top of the ear pierced instead

Ozzde · 01/10/2017 16:24

Go for it. I'm.older than you but would love one. Unfortunately I suffer from allergies and cold sores up my nose occassionally so it's not worth the risk of infection personally. I've had a few body and ear piercings throughout the years but only one now for various reasons, as you say you can take it out if you don't like it.

carolhere · 01/10/2017 16:37

Its your call. If you like it go ahead. If others have a problem, then that's their problem not yours!

Zeelove · 01/10/2017 16:39

If you have a cute little nose, go for it. If you have a big nose it will just draw attention to it.

EverythingEverywhere1234 · 01/10/2017 18:06

Thanks to everyone for their replies, lots to think about and some helpful tips too Smile
To answer some questions;
I already have my ear lobes pierced, plus two helix piercings. Plus have a couple of tattoos, if that makes any difference. I'm not 'unstyled ' as such, just not sure if a nose piercing would be right with my style iyswim?
I have a good nose, even tho I say so myself Grin straight and small-ish

You have to remember that it is more than just an aesthetic choice. I have known many people with them who have gone on to get great jobs but it has been harder for them.

splendidisolation · 01/10/2017 18:10

Then go for it!!!!! And post pics!

deary · 01/10/2017 18:10

Go for it!

Nazdarovye · 01/10/2017 18:15

Nose piercings are no big deal anymore. Nowadays having a nose piercing is like having your ears pierced. Just so many people have them. I also think it suits most people, though not all. I can't imagine for instance Theresa May or anyone serious in a suit to have them. You have to be a casual kinda person to rock them.

AnneLovesGilbert · 01/10/2017 18:20

I love mine! Got it done at a local tattoo parlour. £20 including a pretty blue stone stud. Took about 10 mins, didn't hurt much. Keep it clean and wait however long they recommend to change it.

I like screw studs as the inside bit sits flush to the inside of your nostril. Never hurts, easy to change it, no issues if I have a cold.

Etsy and Amazon do pretty reasonable studs. You'll find you get on better with left or right screw options.

I have a creative but serious enough job and it's never hurt my employment options!

Do it! If you don't like it it'll close up soon enough.

EggbertHeartsTina · 01/10/2017 18:29

I was same as you, thinking about it for ages. Got it done last December and I love it. I have a little stud. Loads of my friends, when I asked "notice anything different?" replied "but you've always had your nose pierced!" Er no it's brand new!! So I'm hoping that means it suits me. And my look is pretty mainstream, two holes in my lobes and my hair's a mess but that is as exciting as I get!

Word of warning - if you do it, clean it as often as they tell you if not more. I got the dreaded nose piercing 'bump' and it was hideous. But I got rid of it quickly with tea tree oil.

I saved up and went to Maria Tash - so much ££££ but very nice experience.

Redken24 · 01/10/2017 18:33

I wear this stud. Work in NHS and it's very subtle.

Do they get bogies on them, I'd quite like a piercing but I have a snubby nose, I had my belly button done but it got sore all the time.

ReviewTime · 01/10/2017 18:35

In the same boat. I'm going to go for it once I've finished getting my second set of earlobes back open.

Question for those who've had it, did the healing take long and could they use quite a small stud to do it? One of my friends had it done and it was quite a big stud for the healing period.

asongforthelovers · 01/10/2017 18:36

I loved my nose piercing, it got infected though.

I will no doubt get it pierced again.

Redken24 · 01/10/2017 18:40

They seem to pierce it with a big stud, I changed mine a few days later. Definitely get help to change it if your not confident as my first nose stud caught in a jumper and i couldn't get it back in - resulting in a repierce
