What length is your hair currently?

Just out of curiosity. I have hip length hair and I really love it, but it is a pain in the arse at times. After having really long hair for most of my life, whenever I get quite a good bit of it cut off, it seems short to me. I know that it of course isn't short, it's just short for me. I've cut it off to a few inches below shoulder length a few times after wanting a change, but I always end up really regretting it.

Sorry for the babbling, what length is your hair currently? And do you want it longer, shorter or are happy maintaining your current length?

Mine's kind of short - from the top of my head it probably reaches just to the bottom of my ears, but it's not all one level. It was super short but I've been growing it out for the last 6 months or so. Just fancied a change, I do this every few years. In a couple of years I'll be back to super short again I expect. I had very long hair growing up but realised that actually my hair type suits a much shorter cut. Don't think I could be bothered with really long hair now.

LadyLovelace · 28/09/2017 14:22

Mine is short and choppy. Not crop short but a longer short hair style if that makes sense. But I'm late 40s so I would think long hair would look silly on me esp as I wouldn't have time to maintain it. It must take forever to dry your hair. For that reason alone I wouldn't have it past my shoulders. But having it nice and short and styled messy IYKWIM is very low maintenance.

Cantseethewoods · 28/09/2017 14:24

Longest ever- Shoulder blades. It's very straight. I like the convenience of ponytailing it but I'm thinking about going back to a lob because it's not really thick enough to do exciting up do's.

Dustbunny1900 · 28/09/2017 14:27

Left side is buzzed in an undercut, rest is just below shoulders.
I always go through the cycle of growing it to waist length and then cut it off in a choppy bob. And repeat.

Eolian · 28/09/2017 14:27

Mine is shoulder length but every couple of years I get tempted to chop it all off again. Whenever I grow it to a length where it can be tied back, I swear I'm going to keep it that way, because it's sooo much easier (and cheaper!) but I never do for long. Growing it out is so annoying too!

LeeBee23 · 28/09/2017 14:29

Always wish I had the courage to go shorter. I just think I would miss my hair too much, and then it takes a long time to grow out.

My hair does take forever to dry if it's done properly, I however just blast it all over my hair without sectioning it or drying it straight. Then I just quickly add some loose curls with a straightener. Straightens the top at the same time.

Mine's just below my bra strap but the ends are a bit frazzled from the bayalage I had done last time. I could do with a good chop (but will probably only lose about an inch).

LeeBee23 · 28/09/2017 14:33

I love balayage. I'm currently getting a gradual ombre done on my hair. Yesterday I got it from a darkish brown with a LOT of different colours in it, to a light brown/dark blonde with my roots being kept. Few more sessions before it's as light as I want though

NC4now · 28/09/2017 14:36

I never dry mine properly. I either blast it or let it dry naturally then run through it with the straighteners. No wonder it's frazzled!

SleepingBooty · 28/09/2017 14:38

Just below armpits at the moment, the longest it's ever been, I'm planning on stopping at just below the boobs.

LeeBee23 · 28/09/2017 14:43

NC4now a trick I've learned is if there's a little extra moisture in your hair, is to spray the mids and ends with some dry shampoo. Will remove the moisture, give you body and help make your style stick. Perfect for lazy girls like me.

I like that idea! I'll give it a try 😃

LeeBee23 · 28/09/2017 14:47

It will get you out of a jam if you're in a hurry, and save you from extra damage!

Shoulder length, I've been growing out a crop for 18 months. I absolutely love it when it's styled but I'm out twice daily walking the dog and damp and humidity make the ends flick up and look frumpy. I hate having to use straighteners often because of damaging it but it looks awful without. I feel frumpy with it tied back too.

Theresnonamesleft · 28/09/2017 15:02

Until last week it was a few inches above my bum. Then I was bored and cut it off to shoulder length. I forgot how easy short hair is and how quickly I can wash it. Will I stay short? I don't know yet. I'm lucky/unlucky as it grows quite quickly.

FlorenceLyons · 28/09/2017 15:08

Very short. Proper pixie cut. I love it 😊

Astraia · 28/09/2017 15:24

Waist length. I've had long hair almost my entire life, the exception being at age 12 when I was very upset at getting headlice for the first time and had it cut into a bob. Lots of regret and growing-out followed! The longest I ever had it was mid-thigh, but that was just to see how long it could get, and it looks much nicer at waist length.

For me, long hair is very low-maintenance because I just comb it and put it up in a bun or twist every day. Wash it about three times a week (in the evening, and let it dry naturally). I'll admit I'm sometimes curious about how I'd look with it a lot shorter, but not enough to risk going for a big chop and regretting it!

LeeBee23 · 28/09/2017 15:25

I can't tell if my hair grows fast or if I just don't get it cut often so it looks like it's growing fast 😆

I think pixie cuts can look lovely! Unfortunately I just know that I wouldn't suit them. Shortest I can go is shoulder length.

Astraia I too find that long hair is low maintenance, I don't really get when some people say longer than average hair is a nuisance to style! It's so easy for me

I think it depends on your hair type, I have very thick hair that got thicker after having my baby. It's naturally got a wave to it (which I fight against daily) and is frizzy prone too so it's a hard job to keep under control. Love the look of it longer but the length doesn't weigh down the frizz so it's just more work. Have just had it chopped by a good few inches to just at shoulder length and thinned so let the growing commence!

tehmina23 · 28/09/2017 15:33

My hair is past shoulder length BUT it's too fine to grow very long & too curly to look right any shorter.
I'm 41. I'm trying to grow my hair longer at the front (I lost my hair at the front in 2010 due to epilepsy meds).
I get it cut 12 weekly & highlighted regularly.

I envy women with thick long glossy wavy hair.

I will probably keep it long as it's easy to tie back for work if I can't be bothered to style it.

Littlebatcalledlucille · 28/09/2017 15:35

God! What I would give for waist length hair!!!!
Mine is just past my shoulders, its only taken 2 years! I had a graduated Bob which was the shortest its ever been and I hated it!
My hair is quite fine and I wish it was thicker.
On the plus side it drys quick.

SerfTerf · 28/09/2017 15:36

Bleurgh shoulder grazing mediocre length.

I'm popping biotin pastille like smarties but it just won't grow like it used to.

silkpyjamasallday · 28/09/2017 15:48

Wow OP, I always wanted hip length hair, or more specifically as a child I wanted hair long enough to sit on Grinsadly mine seems to have reached its full length potential ato about elbow length, I have always had it long except for one disastrous bob I had done at 13 which took so long to grow out I have only had it cut once since and I'm 22. I think I like it long but I usually tie it up and it is a pain to keep it knot free, I would like a change but I'm constantly wavering about it.

I had thought about shaving my head, getting sponsors so I could donate money to the hospice that MIL was in and donating the hair itself to the little princess charity that makes wigs for children going through chemo, but I saw on here that people think it's attention seeking and disrespectful, so that has put me off.

Hebenon · 28/09/2017 16:05

I've had waist length hair and short hair and everything in between. Currently short. It suits me better, is easier to style and looks thicker and healthier.
