Help, it's me the 40 year old who wasn't sure about dress with boots for evening out! Urgent style advice required (pics attached!)

Don't want to be accused of double posting as (inaccurately) happened to me y'day... But need urgent advice and don't want this to come up on my old thread.

I'm the 40 year old with the new cocoon dress who doesn't know if she can get away with ankle boots...

Well I've only just managed to try it all on (leaving in half an hour) and losing my nerve with the ankle boots thing.

I'd not really remembered JUST how scrawny my ankles are. As in they don't remotely fill the boot. Which I think looks silly.

So what do you think? I've posted pics of the boots/tights combo from 2 angles, one of which shows the skinny ankle issue. I also have massive feet which I think makes it worse.

I've also posted on with a grey suede platform heel (very casual in style) in case anyone thinks this looks better. I accept that it may look as if I've forgotten to put the bottom hald of my outfit on, dressed that way. But it negates the scrawny ankle thing.

Please overlook the tip of a bedroom, it's not normally like that but I'm in a massive hurry and have just chucked stuff everywhere!!!

Thanks everyone.

FYI there are NO other options unless I wear trainers. My other ankle boots make my ankles look even more bonkersly skinny and all other heels too formal.

I love the dress - where did it come from??

Singap0reSling · 27/09/2017 23:04

Late to this thread, but I read your other one and I wanted to say I hope you enjoyed your evening out with the dress and tan boots combo - photos looked good. Gapey ankles are not a problem at all!

@PorpoisefullyObtuse I think the OP's dress was a Whistles Lola one (from her other thread).

I think the shoes look infinitely better. The boots look massive and wrong with the outfit but the shoes look great and make your already good legs look even better.

Brown boots! The grey shoes with black tights look daft imo.

Have funSmile

The boots look good, and it's not a problem to have slim ankles in an ankle boot. Seriously, way better with the boots than the grey shoes.

itstheyearzero · 28/09/2017 12:42

I have skinny ankles and find that low cut boots like the Clarks ones you linked to are the only style that work for me.

Headinthedrawer · 28/09/2017 14:12

You have gorgeous ankles-I'd show them off and wear shoes.Ankle boots would suit you but find some that don't gape.

JessiCake · 28/09/2017 14:38

Thanks again everyone.

I felt comfortable ish in the boots last night and just wished I was chunkier of ankle/calf!!

Mission is now to find some boots that DON'T gape - does anyone think a slightly higher ankle/mid-calf boot might work as I'm a bit less skinny further up?

I haven't totally abandoned the idea of shoes (the grey with black tights were obv not a good look and I just panicked and grabbed my old faithfuls without really thinking - I think they look very odd in thet pic!!) but wondering about a black shoe or even something a bit mroe statement-y? A shoe-boot? A bright heel?

Next time I wear the dress, too, I am going with patterned tights as suggested on the older thread as I think it was too much black with the plain tights and the dress. A slight pattern (ie more flesh tone coming though to break up the black) might help the footwear issue too, I suspect.

This is why I always stick to trousers!! I love dresses but can never get shoes right!!!

Huge thanks again.

Sorry to muscle in on your thread, but its title caught my eye. I had just have a session with a personal stylist to find a weekend's worth of smart, casual clothing. I had a dress which i wanted to style: ankle boots were the answer. I was aghast at first, but i have since seen number of people of people in magazines and your thread, where boots look, to my eye, way better than shoes, which now loom a bit try hard.

Hope you go with the boots, imagine, I am wondering whether my ankles are slim enough for the boots....sigh.
