Please help MN massive. I was planning on making something but I've run out of time. I am hosting a party.

Ideal choice would be something from Vivienne Westwood but £££

I'm a size 18/20 and find ficusing in cleavage (rather than high neck or boxy) most flattering.

I do prefer the Bravissimo one - but they are all very plain. Is it your party? I would go for something much more spangly but then my DDs call me a niffler when shopping due to my love of sparkle

Have you looked at ASOS? They do loads of bigger sizes (although I hate that 18s are in plus sizes)
This dress comes in loads of colours and I think it really helps to see the dress on a model who is not size zero!

I'm not adverse to a bit of sparkle, but those dresses aren't my style at all. I don't wear maxi's anymore and prefer below the knee. I have some lovely sparking earrings to wear.

It seems a stylish dress below the knee, with sleeves is the holy grail of womenswear (along with the warm stylish bum covering coat).

I do have a few bits from ASOS Curve, but don't find much in there that I would wear - it's very young and most dresses are above the knee or on the floor.. They did a gorgeous kimono style sequined long blue dress a couple of years ago that I bought, returned as it was a bit too long and I've been kicking myself about ever since. I should have kept it and hemmed it myself!

I really like that first Vivienne Westwood dress you linked to. You could make it look quite funky I think with the right jewellery and shoes. It looks like It would be quite flattering. The others are quite conservative looking to my mind.

I do like that dress Desoperado but it's too short. I'm 5'8" so it would be well above my knee.

Yes I really like that dress too Just but I've never spent more than £100 on a dress before let alone £375!! Its kind of strange that no one is out there selling VW "Inspired" dresses :)

Every now and then I think "fuck it I'm going to be FIFTY" and nearly order the VW dress, and then my common sense kicks in, normality resumes, and my credit card breathes a sign of relief.

desperado I don't consider that dress plain at all

Buy the first dress!!!! It's fabulous and with your earrings, great shoes/bag you'll look and, more importantly, feel beautiful. If you do please post back on how the fit is.

I'm not sure I'd get into All Saints - though I quite like their style. There is one at Westfield I could get to this weekend - I have a busy, but childfree weekend ahead.

AS dresses often seem to need instructions to work out how to put the buggers on! They look good on the models but too confusing for me...

Splurge on a Vivienne Westwood if you can. You'll feel fabulous. The others are fine if you're a guest at someone else's party but it's your party. You should feel amazing and with young children added to the mix, you definitely deserve it (I'm a similar age with one just about adult offspring and that's bloody hard work at times ).
