this dress

Just out of interest ...

Do you like the dress? How it's styled?

And what age is this look for?'

I like it (both shape and pattern) but I'm definitely not the right build for it! I'd wear with dark tights, either knee-high boots or slight heel shoes.

As for age, I dunno. I'm late 40s. I find clothes are more aimed around shape than age these days!

Wilburissomepig · 17/09/2017 12:06

I'm 50 and I'd wear it for work with opaques and chunky boots.

MoveOnTheCards · 17/09/2017 12:11

I'm 40 and think it's a bit frumpy, mainly because of the fabric pattern. I wouldn't wear it as I think it would really age me! Might consider it in a single/solid colour with boots.

Maudlinmaud · 17/09/2017 12:13

Mid 30s I wear stuff like this to work.

Fernanie · 17/09/2017 12:42

Mid 30s. I think it's kind of boring. As a PP said, if I was gifted it I'd wear it (probably with tights and boots / ballet pumps) but I wouldn't buy it, and definitely not at £80-odd! Maybe if it was a tenner in H&M (!) as it's useful to have a couple safe / boring dresses in the wardrobe, but it's not very inspiring IMHO.

Puffpaw · 17/09/2017 13:03

I assume that they have chosen it...because they think it will be easy to wash!
Busted nettle that would be high on my list of criteria.

Etymology23 · 17/09/2017 13:08

I'm in my twenties and would wear it but generally prefer something brighter. TBH at my work that would put you on the more "out-there" end of the spectrum as it's not plain black, navy or grey...

I'd wear with either opaques or clear tights and long boots or maybe some bright shoes.

Etymology23 · 17/09/2017 13:08

And easy to wash is my no. 1 priority in clothing beyond anything else!

Feawen · 17/09/2017 13:53

I'm late 20s and quite like it. It's the sort of thing I'd throw on for work in autumn/winter, with opaques and block-heeled boots, as styled in the picture, maybe with a belt as well. At my work-place, most other women wear black trousers, a jersey top and cardigan, so it would stand out without being too look-at-me.

I'd need to try it on, as I'd want it to sit above the knee, and sometimes a dress styled on a taller model can be deceptive. I'd also want to check that the fabric didn't show a bra-line, as very stretchy material sometimes can.

My main criticism is that it's expensive for what it is. I have a similar dress from Dorothy Perkins, same sort of fabric and similar style, with a slightly bolder abstract-floral print. Except mine cost about £30.

Feawen · 17/09/2017 13:55

Sorry to double-post but meant to add - those are the first brown ankle boots I've seen in a while. Black, grey and navy have dominated for a long time.

Peppermeant · 17/09/2017 13:58

This is definitely my kind of thing (mid 30s, slim) as I love stream-lined silhouettes BUT I usually find that phase 8 is terribly, terribly frumpy on. Something to do with the cut and prints etc - Oasis would probably do something really similar but just do it better IYKWIM. I also hate the high neckline on this particular dress.

soupforbrains · 17/09/2017 14:18

I'm 31 and I wouldn't wear that. I like the style of the dress generally but the print is, to me, just really dowdy/frumpy and 'old lady' looking.

Lambzig · 17/09/2017 15:05

Not my cup of tea, a bit boring and frumpy looking. Very safe. I am 50.

Ellapaella · 17/09/2017 18:25

It's okay - doesn't go with those brown boots at all though, they make it look really grumpy. . Might be nicer worn with a black shoe with a thin heel.

Auntiedahlia · 17/09/2017 18:26

I'd look like a black floral sausage in that

Ellapaella · 17/09/2017 18:26

Grumpy? Obviously I meant frumpy!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/09/2017 18:27

I really like the print (am a big fan of dark florals) but I don't think the high neckline would be v flattering.

LovingLola · 17/09/2017 18:33

It's a fairly bog standard 'uniform' type dress.

CatsOclock · 17/09/2017 18:34

I think it could work for any age but I wouldn't wear it - it's a bit too conservative for me.

DollyLlama · 17/09/2017 18:35

I'm in my 20s and I'd wear this with opaque tights and black plimsoles. It's stunning!

I think this dress could be worn at any age really. Black is very flattering and the print isn't too OTT.

ScarletForYa · 17/09/2017 18:37

No, I wouldn't wear this. I think it's ugly.

I'm not sure who it's aimed at.

quaqua · 17/09/2017 18:37

I don't like the print.

CalmanOnSpeeddial · 17/09/2017 18:45

I wouldn't buy it, especially at that price, but if it magically appeared in my wardrobe I'd wear it. (I'm late 40s).

GingerRogers84 · 17/09/2017 18:58

I would wear this! I'm 33 and would wear in spring/summer bare legs and flats, or in winter with opaques and flats or ankle boots.

PickAChew · 17/09/2017 19:38

The pattern on black background would have looked great on me while my hair was still dark. I'm salt and peppered now, so it'd be too dark.

And I'm a busty apple, so I'd look like a bolster cushion in it.

Plus, viscose.
