Where does one purchase stylish, but REALLY COMFY clothing?

I'm not quite ready for Hotter shoes and elasticated waistbands, but I am tired of wearing stiff, restrictive clothes that are never really warm enough. I want to be comfy and cosy, without looking like I've completely given up on style. I want forgiving fits and soft, snuggly fabrics in neutral colours without patterns (as this seems to tip such clothing into the realm of Frumpsville.

Does anyone have suggestions or am I searching for the Holy Grail? Don't mind spending a bit but budget is more high-end high street than designer.

minipie I live in Clarkes knee length flat boots and get loads of compliments about them. They are comfortable - you can walk for miles and I too have short fat legs. I buy a new pair every couple of years. the styles I love come in and out of fashion but there's usually at least one pair by them that works for the winter and is classic enough to wear with leggings or jeans tucked in, or with skirts and dresses, making them really versatile. Something like these

LoniceraJaponica · 14/09/2017 20:07

"Are they known for beimg comfy?" Yes, very. I have some boots that I have had for 3 or 4 years and they are as comfy as slippers.

Cherrypie32 · 14/09/2017 20:23

Sukithedog where are those boots from?

bananafish81 · 14/09/2017 20:36

I live in uniqlo stretchy leggings trousers, Supima cotton or heat tech tops, and lovely Merino wool or cashmere sweaters.

Also their seamless bras are incredibly comfortable.

And their lounge pants for evening PJs

I love uniqlo

SukiTheDog · 14/09/2017 20:38

The Hut. £70 😊 Hoping they're comfy and fit me!

ItsAMackerel · 14/09/2017 20:57

Label Lab at House of Fraser often have some nice knitwear - usually lighter weight but nice with long-sleeved t-shirts layered underneath.

drspouse · 14/09/2017 22:00

Oh dear, lots of sacks on here, I'm too busty for sacks!

MoGhileMear · 15/09/2017 22:04

Suki, I can't see hose boots on The Hut website? They're lovely!

BulletFox · 16/09/2017 03:17

They're mainly out of stock now nut I would diiiieee for a pair of carvela comfort knee high boots

rhubarbcrumble66 · 16/09/2017 07:49

Another vote for Uniqlo, check out the current Ines de la Fressange collection, which is based on the concept of Hygge!

ChocolatePHD · 16/09/2017 08:24

Watching this with interest. I'm nearly 40 and have a chronic body pain condition that means I can't wear anything tight to my body (can't even tolerate a bra usually). I'm a pear shaped size 12. I've got several nice jumpers (star print, stripe etc) and Stan smiths etc but it's the trouser part I have issues with. Jeans are so uncomfortable and harem pants make me look like a giant parsnip!

MrsPeacockDidIt · 16/09/2017 08:54

I'm a 16 and wear a lot from hush. I have 3 pairs of their wide leg trousers which have elesticsted waists (bliss), baby, black and navy pin stripe. I like their knitwear too. I have a couple of things from cos but their styling online makes it hard for me to see if it might suit. Comfy and stylish can be done.

SukiTheDog · 16/09/2017 08:54

Oh. It's now saying they're out of stock so, that either means I got the last pair or I'll get an email EE the weekend saying "Sorry. Out of stock item" 😡

They're these, maybe try somewhere else?

Bintang · 16/09/2017 09:04

Minipie I also recommend Clark's for boots. I'm similar build to you, and I bought a pair in the sale last year, and they're so warm and comfy, and a really good height in short legs.

Winterview · 16/09/2017 09:07

Monsoon wool-mix dresses in plain colours, with warm leggings or tights that match your bag. I go for knee length dresses that are a bit stretchy but loose fitting. With long comfy boots!

millifiori · 16/09/2017 09:59

Chocolate PhD - you could try good quality leggings or jeggings with long boots and dresses or tunics. Much more comfortable than jeans.

millifiori · 16/09/2017 10:02

I like Uniqlo clothes but they are almost always too short in the body. I don't want cashmere sweaters that end at the waist. I want long line soft tops with a bit of structure. Not sacks, not floral, just elegant and very comfortable.

ChippyMinton · 16/09/2017 10:08

Ponte fabric is good for comfort with a bit more structure (for work). Boden for dresses, and I just found a bargain black skirt in Tu at Sainsbury.
Merino or cashmere cardigans and jumpers (look at the men's ranges too - Uniqlo, M&S).
Tights - size up for comfort.
Flat boots - I wear the more structured Uggs.
Vests for layering.
Ooh, and I have started wearing a slip under dresses, so they don't cling to my legs, and it's warmer.
Lightweight down coat.
Big snuggly scarf.

Bananasandchocolatecustard · 16/09/2017 10:41

Seasalt is the answer in my opinion. They are usually 100% cotton, and are not constricting.
I have the "millpool" dress, the striped tunics and lots of the striped t shirts. I usually buy in the sales as the prices are expensive. I also think of the "cost per wear theory". I haven't bought any trousers yet.
I'm size 10, but do not like tight clothes. Hope this helps.

millifiori · 16/09/2017 13:57

museumum - what was the stretchy M&S dress called, please? I like the sound of that.

museumum · 16/09/2017 14:18

Will see if I can find it.

Trasna · 16/09/2017 20:35

Thanks, Suki, will look for them. They're exactly the kind of thing I like.

Shockers · 16/09/2017 20:40

I wear a lot of Masai and Postcard from Brighton (only their cotton jersey stuff though- not the nylon-y stuff). Both look awful on the hanger, but are flattering on.

MumBod · 17/09/2017 07:50

Get some Hush harems. Like Ugg boots for your body.

Size 14 hourglass here too, btw. I rock Hush Wink

SukiTheDog · 18/09/2017 19:48

Oooh, got my boots! Can highly recommend. Really, really great boots 😊
