Help from anyone else whiffy of armpit...

JessiCake · 13/09/2017 09:50

Please tell me how you counteract this problem!!

I don't have BO or anything, but I'm tired of being so... MUSTY in the armpit region. Blush

It's only bloody 9.45am, I showered (thoroughly!) at 7am, applied liberal deodorant. I've done nothing more energetic than school drop-off since, and now I'm sitting at my desk sniffing my armpits which are, as usual, distinctly musty and strong-smelling.

They were fresh as a daisy 2 hours ago!!

So what can I do? I use Vaseline Intensive Care deodorant - time for a change? I used to use a v powerful sort of stick one but only for evenings out or when I was wearing posh, hand-wash clothes. I don't really want to use something that strong every day, but there might be something in between that and my (obviously rubbish) Vaseline one?

And shower gel. I use a Korres one, lemony scent, sometimes a jasmine scent. As I say, I am fresh as a daisy from the shower but should I maybe be using something more heavy-duty in the shower?

It's just such a pain, all my clothes end up with musty pits after (barely) one wear. I've got the new trick of using anti-bacterial stuff in the washing machine so things come out fresh even at low temperatures, so my clothes aren't musty when I put them on.

I guess it's posisbly partly the deodorant itself that smells a bit but I don't know what to do about the musty, ever-so-slightly sweaty (though NOT a sour BO!) smell from my armpits themselves.

Very embarrassed and hoping someone can help!

I use Mitchum men's ultimate stick. It is the only thing I have found that lasts and smells fresh. I use it every day.

Katsite · 13/09/2017 17:21

If I lived in the UK I would also use Mitchum. As it is I go to the pharmacy and get a deodorant for people with hormonal imbalance. It's the first thing that has helped since Mitchum.
Might be worth a try if all else fails.

Men's Sure deodorant - this one www.superdrug.com/Sure/Sure-Men-Quantum-Aerosol-Anti-Perspirant-Deodorant-250ml/p/458732

This is the only thing that works for me and it smells ok!

The Driclor stuff works but not good for sensitive pits. It actually kept me awake at night with itching!

I use white vinegar too - spray on and leave for 20 mins before putting the wash on.

AngelicCurls · 13/09/2017 22:00

Another vote for Mitchum here, I use the clear gel, find it works best if I only put a really thin layer on and the next use a hair dryer to blast it dry for a few secs each side. If I dress before it's completely dry I still feel sticky otherwise it's been a revelation. For the first time in about 20 years I feel like I don't have to keep my arms clamped to my side to hide the sweat patches

MipMipMip · 13/09/2017 22:41

To those saying about itching with driclor, assuming it's much the same as perspirex, make sure your skin is really dry and use a sensitive version. I itched for the first few times and it kept me awake but now no problems at all.

Quickqu · 13/09/2017 22:49

Is it something to do with what you eat? Do you drink enough water?

hollieberrie · 13/09/2017 23:11

Sorry havent RTFT but its all about Sure cream for me. Has been life changing. I like all the colours / scents:

swishswishbot · 13/09/2017 23:20

A vote for mitchum from me and if very whiffy/wet on prescription only (I think) anhydrol forte was what I used during the puberty years and fully expect to return to during menopause

TheNoodlesIncident · 13/09/2017 23:20

Yes Angelic, I like the Mitchum clear gel, it's the only thing that's worked for me. This one OP. The packaging says apply at night before bed and it will stay effective through the following day, even if you have a shower in the morning. I don't have any musty smell but my underarms really do sweat. I tend to be unaware until I move my arms and get the cold damp feel from my top, so clammy and grim.
I've tried all the antiperspirants mentioned here and they just don't work for me, the Mitchum gel seemed expensive but I'm willing to try anything once...

TotalUnknown · 14/09/2017 00:30

Halo detergent helps deal with the clothes problem.

Unfortunately I'm allergic to it.

I shall try mouthwash!

Iif you're caught out and find that the top you're wearing starts whiffing, and you've no chance to change, antibac gel is a temporary stopgap. Rub some on your fingers and wipe it off on the underarms of your shirt. It shouldn't show up, and it stops the niff for a few hours.

MrsSchadenfreude · 14/09/2017 00:47

Wash your pits with Hibiscrub. Rinse off. You probably won't need deodorant, but if you do, try Mitchum. And wash your clothes with bio powder (big box). The liquids or capsules don't get the smell out.

WomblingThree · 14/09/2017 09:55

Another vote for the Sure cream. It's amazing. I find it works best if I put it on after an evening shower and then again in the morning.

Haffiana · 14/09/2017 10:08

Mitchum Gel. Brilliant stuff, better than the roll on, dries very quickly and is not sticky. I use at night after a shower. It lasts 2 days for me.

The other thing is not using shower gel under armpits if I am going to use a deodorant afterwards. Shower gel seems to leave something on my skin which stops my deodorant being as effective. I use a proper soap - not Dove which is a detergent bar and has the same problem.

Greenbucket · 14/09/2017 10:12

Sure cream deodorant. Nothing else works as well.

Herefornow1 · 14/09/2017 10:17

I have hyperhidrosis in one armpit only...
driclor worked to a point but if I still perspired it would stain my clothes
Mitchem gel for me works best for me

Add bicarbonate of soda to washing tops to get rid of sweat smells from clothes - either sprinkle on armpits of wet top and rub before putting in washing mashing or add half a cup of bicarb to one load of laundry in the machine

JessiCake · 14/09/2017 11:12

Wow 91 posts, this is fab thank you!

Right so I washed with soap this morning (just Simple soap, as it was the only one I had, but obv not the most powerful so will try to get another kind today) and I must be honest, already the problem is about 50% at least BETTER than it was at the same time yday. So there really must be something in the soap thing!

I also exfoliated which - though I've no idea why - may have helped, and certainly made me feel even more clean than usual.

I will purchase the Sure cream deo today too though I'm not entirely sure how to use it. Do I HAVE to shower at night and then put it on before bed? And then do I use it in the morning after a shower too? Or can I simply use it in the morning? Schedule a bit tricky for showering at night every night though obv if that's what it takes...

Hugely appreciated! And I am going to buy white vinegar for clothes washes today too!

Prevention and cure...

Thanks all x

See! I'm very pleased for you!

My inner conspiracy freak thinks it's the shower gel makers secret of getting people to use and buy more and more. They put some kind of gunk in it that leaves a thin film of crap over the body that makes it sweat and smell more.

Exfoliate your underarms with scrubby gloves too.

Greenbucket · 14/09/2017 12:07

I just put it on the am like normal. The dove one didn't work as well

Gatekeeper · 14/09/2017 12:16

Trust cream although pricey is brilliant at combatting musty armpits. Mitchum does nowt for me

Demilouise96 · 14/09/2017 13:56

Fenjal products are good not to pricey and smell amazing

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 16/09/2017 13:40

MrsGotobed thank you - I stocked up on Sure in Wilko's today.

MrsGotobed · 16/09/2017 21:29

Pleased to hear it Smile.

TheWeeWitch · 16/09/2017 22:08

I shower at night and then apply deodorant in the morning when dressing. I sleep cool, though, and don't usually sweat at night. I like having half the day deodorant free, it feels like my skin has a break.

Ohms11 · 17/09/2017 01:12

My office is really warm, so I take major stink-preventative action. I use a driclor roll on at night... Wash off on morning. Then i use bionsen body spray (rock deodrant).. Then i finish with a nice spray to match my perfume... 3 deodrants! I smell lovely though.

zenasfuck · 17/09/2017 01:56

Lush do a poser deodorant called the greench which is amazing. It's for tea tree in which really helps

I exfoliate my pits every night then wash with proper soap. I put the powder on before bed. I then have a shower in the morning with just soap, then when dry I use powder and then spray with Mitchum deodorant

This keeps me smelling fresh and dry all day
