Charlotte Tilbury rant - or am I being pedantic?

I just ordered the CT Overnight Bronze & Glow Mask via Cult Beauty. Having opened it, there is a sticker on the tube with the product name on it and underneath it says Dream Bronze Mask. How tacky is that!? I find it really unacceptable for something that's a premium brand. Or am I being overly pedantic?

On a side note, a while back I also had a CT eye crayon in one of Cult Beauty's goody bags and most of the writing had rubbed off the product. Not such a big deal as it was a freebie, but still...

I might be being a bit thick here, but what is the actual issue with the sticker?

FrankyStein · 12/09/2017 13:18

Yes it's a known issue and you can contact CB and complain

It's only because they name changed I believe but still... not on is it?

Twelvety · 12/09/2017 13:20

I'm also not following, can you post a picture?

To be honest though I think Charlotte Tilbury is generally overhyped and overpriced and generally a bit crap.

DuckOffAutocorrectYouShiv · 12/09/2017 13:23

Some products are over labelled like this because they carry different names in different countries. So to save on manufacturing costs some companies just stick labels over the 'other' names, rather than go through the expense of making a whole different package for that product.

I'd be rattled by that, OP. I think when you buy a brand like that you are buying into the whole brand experience, which with a premium brand doesn't include sticky labels.

chloechloe · 12/09/2017 14:32

Sorry that my post wasn't clear! They've basically manufactured the tube with one product name on it, then put a sticky label over the top with a different name on it (I.e that marketed in the U.K.).

Thanks for the tip franky, I'll contact CB. I'm glad that most of you agree it's not on for something that's being sold as a premium product. Especially when there are so many counterfeit beauty products around - if I hadn't bought it from a reputable site, I would have concerns.

I agree CT is overhyped and this goes to show it. I think a lot of the budget is going on marketing and pushing items via Social Media. Still this is one product which seems to get great reviews, but the question is whether they're unbiased....

An over sticker does not scream high end. It reminds me of when you buy toiletries in pound land and they put a sticker on to show ingredients in English.

ThierryEnnui · 12/09/2017 16:13

I once worked for a very high-end brand who misprinted the sizing on literally tens of thousands of outer packaging for a very pricey moisturiser (tube was fine, it was the box wrapped in cellophane that was a misprint). Brand owner just ordered a load of stickers and had the whole office sticking them on the boxes for weeks... all in the name of money saving. It was tacky, and the product was upwards of £100.

chloechloe · 12/09/2017 18:37

thierry how ridiculous - I'm sure the manpower would have cost more than reprinting!!!!

pear I'm sure Charlotte would love to be compared to pound land Grin

I agree, it seems shoddy. I had the same thing with a palette of cheek powders from Benefit aswell.

ourkidmolly · 12/09/2017 20:14

That's not good enough.

Itsautumn · 12/09/2017 20:26

I really haven't been that impressed with CT products. Definitely good PR over anything else!

mrscampbellblackreturns · 12/09/2017 21:15

That does sound rubbish but I do quite like the bronze and glow - used it a lot during the summer.

CurlsLDN · 13/09/2017 07:28

I don't work for CT, but I do work for a premium high street brand that sometimes over stickers.

The packaging is most likely manufactured in asia. The factory will have a minimum order quantity, let's say 1million units. The costings will be done on this basis.

In our case if we were to print unique packaging for every country, we simply couldn't sell the product to every country, as many countries couldn't meet the minimum order, so the packaging cost would increase hugely - meaning the product would be priced out of the market.

So, we order one batch with the biggest countries messaging on, then split the order, over sticker it for different markets, then distribute it out to the countries.

No idea if this is the case with CT, but just wanted to provide some info on the other side of the story, it's not necessarily just a brand being cheap or lazy, it's them trying to find a way to get the product to you at all

burnishedsilver · 13/09/2017 08:23

This thread is a, real eye opener.

I don't see what the big deal is at all. Personally, I pay for the product itself, not the labeling.

burnishedsilver · 13/09/2017 08:25

(I picked the wrong thread to have a misplaced comma in my post)

LapinR0se · 13/09/2017 08:28

If you'd like to pay a higher price for the product then by all means demand individual labels per shipping market Hmm

Twinkie1 · 13/09/2017 08:33

Seriously? You're getting worked up over a sticker?? Surely what matters is the stuff inside the packaging does what it says on the tin.

You're not decorating your house with the packaging.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 13/09/2017 08:37

I wouldn't buy a stickered on product.

Packaging is part of the experience and something you pay for when you buy a premium product.

Having said that CT doesn't have any estetic appeal fir me, sticker or no sticker.

LapinR0se · 13/09/2017 08:48

You would prefer to pay a higher price for a unique sticker?

chloechloe · 13/09/2017 08:50

Thanks for the info curls. It just seems quite strange here as all the text is in English so it seems they're marketing it in one English speaking country with a different name. Or perhaps they decided to change the product name?

OP posts:
chloechloe · 13/09/2017 08:53

No lapin, the brand should reduce its profit margin! Or just stick with one name for the English speaking market!

OP posts:
LapinR0se · 13/09/2017 08:54

It will either be a product name change or a different shipping market with English as the language e.g. US or ANZ where the product is marketed under a different name.

In the first instance, they would have had to write off the stock with the old name or manually remove the old stickers which would bring significant on cost.

In the second instance, each market would need to meet a minimum order quantity to justify a unique label. Presumably not enough stock is sold in each market so they cluster and resticker.

Like I said, in both situations you could have a unique sticker for the UK but the cost borne by Charlotte Tilbury would be passed to the consumer so you would pay more (for exactly the same product).

LapinR0se · 13/09/2017 08:55

It's not as easy as saying Just reduce your profit margin. That's how young companies (which CT is) die.
Regards naming, this is unfortunate but they will be responding to consumer or trade feedback.
