Why isn't it easy to find small clothes??

As a size 6 (previously size 14) I find it extremely annoying that i can't finde decent cheap clothes. i don't event think I'm that small but i always have to get stuff from places like Hollister.. getting cheapish smart clothes has become a total nightmare. Rant over!!

I'm with you. I'm not even that small, a small 8 perhaps. But the likes of Next, Boden and supermarket clothing are way too big, even in a size 6. Thankfully I don't need smart clothes but casual stuff is hard enough! Have you tried Banana Republic?

Girlywurly · 12/09/2017 13:35

Vanity sizing. I wear a size 8 usually and am by no means a small woman. Have no idea what really petite women do to find clothes that fit.

revolution909 · 12/09/2017 14:44

Exactly! What do really, really tiny ladies do??

I buy on ASOS, it stocks size 2 and 4 in a lot of lines. They also have good size guides for different brands etc so you can find your size more easily.

I find it ridiculous when I buy a pair of joggers in size "XS" and they won't even stay up. I'm definitely not freakishly skinny, I have thighs and an arse.

elevenclips · 12/09/2017 14:50

Because most people are in the medium sizes and clothing retailers are interested in selling the highest volume of clothing possible. They are not interested if smaller people and larger people cannot easily get clothes, they are interested in money.

revolution909 · 12/09/2017 15:01

That happened to me! I have some XS leggings and they're a tiny it loose. the thing though is that you see that more and more brands are creating plus size clothes / lines , but people on the other side of the spectrum are left behind. I get it's a business decision but annoying nonetheless.

Lots buy kids clothes and shoes

blueberrypie0112 · 12/09/2017 15:06

Do you have a junior (or teenager) clothes section? Maybe that will help

revolution909 · 12/09/2017 15:09

I sometimes buy kids clothes , but for work I'm finding it a bit harder. i can show up with tshirts with massive emojis on my boobs LOL. Gap has size 4, but their sizing is a bit odd.

I'm a size 8 and have size 4-5 feet. I'm 5'5, with a small frame so can occasionally use the petite section.
But I buy a lot of basics top and shoes from the kids section, next go up to an age 16, which is fine for me.
There was a pregnant lady rooting through the monsoon kids sale section the other day for smock tops, she was tiny about 4"11 and a size 6 at most.

notthegumdropbuttons · 12/09/2017 15:14

I think topshop petite is good for sizing although unless you're short it may not be an option. I tend to wear oversized clothes anyway but I feel your pain op. I had a size 6 jacket from mango that fit really well but then other stuff from there was not the same fit. It's very annoying.

PeralMePots · 12/09/2017 15:28

The best I have found is Uniqlo. They do a big range of things in slim fit with shorter legs and arms. I am only 5 feet tall and have stopped shopping anywhere else. Not sure if they would be any good if you are tall though.

revolution909 · 12/09/2017 15:31

I'm shortish (5"3') but have longish arms. For trousers petite sizing usually works for long sleeve clothes i have to go with normal sizing

OP what did you do to drop so many dress sizes (and I know you're going to say eat a very small amount of calories per day 😬😬)

arielmanto · 12/09/2017 15:33

I'm an 8 in old money but currently I find a Next 6 hangs on me, I am off the scale in gap (and I am really, really not a 00) and drives me mad as I love their clothes!
My DW is very petite (5ft 2" and a real size 6 like a tiny doll person) and she just wears kids' stuff. H&m seem to have legitimate sizes but I feel a bit too old for their style. Sigh.
Second Uniqlo - their light puffer jackets fit beautifully.

SonicBoomBoom · 12/09/2017 15:34

Karen Millen's sizes are tiny.

They do have some nice smart stuff, as well as the WAGgy "look at my body, NOW" stuff.

BeatriceBeaudelaire · 12/09/2017 16:44

I've always been an 8/ 10. The last two years everything has begun to swamp me ... but I haven't lost any weight. Size 6 now is the same as my size 8-10 clothing from previous years when I put them side by side.
Vanity sizing is all well and good except ... it's not like they're brought out 2-4 to recompense those who have been sized out!

BeatriceBeaudelaire · 12/09/2017 16:46

And yes I need smaller clothing ... but not shorter clothing, I'm 5'4 ... totally average... and my arse sticks out of petite skirts 🙄

Millipedewithherfeetup · 12/09/2017 16:53

New look stuff tend to come up small. Dorothy perking also not bad. If you can afford postage a lot of French brands are "old "sizes.

revolution909 · 12/09/2017 16:58

sleepfreezone diet and exercise! I've got stuff from new look, they're size 6 jacket was huge, but yeah I have a few things from there and not too pricey. I would buy online but returns are sometimes a massive hassle

MiniTheMinx · 12/09/2017 16:58

I am having to buy size 6 now, I haven't shrunk either. I'm 5ft 4 and used to be a size 10. Vanity sizing is all well and good but now I am unable to shop in some stores because the smallest they stock is an 8, and their size 8 is cut too generously.

I agree with the poster who recommends Karen Millen. Ted Baker is quite good too. I'm a size 1, and then translates according to them as an 8, but if you read the measurements for the size 1....it really is a small 8, not one of these vanity size 8s.

I have long legs so trousers and jeans are fine, but often buy kids tops because I am short in the body.

I found a dress in the charity shop that was from the early 80s, M & S still with its sale label attached. Size 10.....fitted perfectly.

Mominatrix · 12/09/2017 17:07

I am 5'2" and a 4-6

Childrens' departments, petite ranges (especially J Crew), and French labels make up the bulk of my clothing.

More expensive clothing tend to be cut smaller. By more expensive, I mean proper designer. In these ranges, there has been no vanity sizing - a 34 Chanel today is the same size as a 34 Chanel from 30 years ago.

revolution909 · 12/09/2017 17:12

True, I used to have a dolce & gabanna dress that was tiny for a size 42. I think I would be OK with buying that type of clothes if I didn't had to buy a full wardrobe (I had to for summer) but now I have no winter clothes that properly fit

OP posts:
wonkylegs · 12/09/2017 18:13

TKmaxx - not reliable but sometimes some good tiny finds
French connection
Top shop
Karen Millen

Get a good seamstress who can alter or like I did when I was a size 4/6 and poor learn to alter things yourself.

I'm still an odd shape very tiny waist, big boobs so have to alter things for them to look good.

revolution909 · 12/09/2017 19:17

Yeah I've found some awesome bargains at tk maxx... Michael korrs skirt for a £10! Some Armani jeans and Calvin Klein stuff. My local tk maxx is very small l though
