Why isn't it easy to find small clothes??

As a size 6 (previously size 14) I find it extremely annoying that i can't finde decent cheap clothes. i don't event think I'm that small but i always have to get stuff from places like Hollister.. getting cheapish smart clothes has become a total nightmare. Rant over!!

I've lost weight recently and am now back to the size I was in my 20s. Back then as a 5'2" size 12 I thought I was fat (couple of pounds lighter than I am now although admittedly a lot less muscular since I exercise every day now) even though I had a healthy BMI. Now I'm a size '10' in every shop and verging on an 8 in some. The worst vanity sizing I experienced was a gorgeous silk dress I bought in Jigsaw that I ended up buying the size 6. Smallest size so no idea what properly tiny people do.

I quite often look in the children's section, but everything seems too childish, which shops do decent children's clothing?

I bought a new coat at weekend in a sale at an outdoor type shop. Age 12! Fits perfect!

Has anyone mentioned h and m. Their stuff is tiny.

revolution909 · 13/09/2017 10:17

I've found h&M a bit hit and mis, but I know there are different lines within H&M

Smarter work clothes are a real problem - Whistles, Jigsaw, Hobbs, Jaeger - huge. And £130 for a polyester blouse Hmm

I don't agree that more expensive clothes are smaller - its the cheaper brands targeting the teen market that are cut smaller.

Walkingtowork · 13/09/2017 13:59

Mango are small.

My problem is finding narrow enough shoulders. Almost all coats look silly Sad

titsandgiggles · 13/09/2017 14:10

H&M.

I'm a size 12 in Topshop jeans and H&M size 16 jeans won't even go over my big toe.

BitofaPoorEffort · 13/09/2017 14:24

Dame: I agree, I can find plenty of casual clothes or glittery night time things but not grown -up business wear. So frustrating.

PopeMortificado · 13/09/2017 14:40

The Outnet - it's not cheap but heavily discounted designer.
Very often all that is left is the very tiny stuff.

herecomesthsun · 13/09/2017 19:21

Try vintage - people used to be a lot smaller than they are now. Upmarket second hand?

Rainymorningblues · 13/09/2017 19:28

I feel your pain OP, thought it was just me Sad

That's why I can't shop online as sometimes a 6 is slightly too snug, and sometimes too big! Most 8's I can forget as they just swamp me. I've just ordered a size 8 dress online but I'm guessing I'm probably going to have to send it back due to the fact it'll be more a 10-12 Hmm

Agustarella · 13/09/2017 21:46

My daughter is a size 6 and 5'2". She wears a size 8 in Topshop Petite, I don't remember what size in H&M but they do lots of tiny stuff, and a 6 in New Look, although their sizing is a bit erratic.

BlueEyedWonder · 13/09/2017 22:23

I'm 5ft and a size 6 or 8 in Topshop Petite range. This is where I buy a lot of stuff as it fits me best.
I'm not a Dorothy Perkins or New Look fan though both have petite ranges.
I buy a size 6 in Boden petite though some of the dresses have still been too big.
M&S petite range is currently dire. I wonder if it's being discontinued it's so poor. Their sizing is also too generous.
Gap petite XS and Banana Republic XXS also fit better.
I sometimes buy from kids ranges. Age 12-13 is usually spot on!

Want2bSupermum · 13/09/2017 22:35

I used to be a 6 in the 90s and had the same thought when I was home last week and went shopping. I'm bigger now but the vanity sizing is crazy.

Coast has things in a 6 and any Spanish retailer like Zara or Mango are cut smaller. You should look at shopping here in NYC because everyone is tiny. You can get anything bigger than a 12 in most boutiques.

Want2bSupermum · 13/09/2017 22:35

Theory has smaller sizes. Take a look at Barneys online. It's all tiny in there.

revolution909 · 13/09/2017 22:43

I loved Barney's, I got my DD a lovely dress there a couple of years ago. At least in the US size 0 exists, which is technically a size 4 over here. I say technically as I have size 0 trousers from Gap, but I'm no size 0!

Bershka and Zara - although Bershka can be a bit teen looking. They both have great small sizes. I second Topshop petite! And miss Selfridge.

revolution909 · 13/09/2017 23:11

Yip, I wore Bershka when I was 18! (and I remember I thought it was small, but I was bigger back then). I went to Zara a couple of months ago and didn't find anything, I'll have a look again. I bought a tshirt from French Connection a few weeks ago and it ended up being too big! I think in the end I just have to learn where to buy clothes from. Fat Face was too big, Joules it depends, New Look I like their stuff but again sizing is a bit odd. Sea Salt comes small , so some things do fit but they don't make a size 6 (hello massive raincoat!)
