Which dress for a wedding guest? A or B

hazeydays14 · 11/09/2017 23:18

Hi all

I've got an autumn wedding to go to soon. It's a church service followed by a reception in a Manor House type place.

Please help me choose:
Option A
Or
Option B

Thanks!

Dresses linked to by WhatchaMaCalllit are infinitely better and they are still cheap, but don't look it.

Doobigetta · 12/09/2017 09:26

Sorry, but I don't think either of those are right, they look very cheap. Dresses 3 and 4 in Whatchamacallit's post are both lovely.

Have to agree, both dresses look a bit cheap and are both night out dresses rather than being wedding appropriate. Perhaps if B was navy you might get away with it with a jacket but the combo of stretch lace and red is not very good for a wedding.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 12/09/2017 09:51

The dresses WhatchaMaCalllit linked to are lovely, particularly 3 and 4.

Bluntness100 · 12/09/2017 09:55

Neither for me too, they are both good dresses, but more night club /hot date type attire, neither are exactly elegant or classy really, which is normally what people aim for when attending a wedding.

Puffpaw · 12/09/2017 10:00

The only one I like of the alternatives is 4. but I think B will be fine with a cream jacket. I've been to zillions of weddings as you describe.
I'm guessing you are young and slim?

EsperanzaDesperanza · 12/09/2017 10:07

I like A.
B is fine too.

They are not pulling clothes, nor are they too 'look at me' and are absolutely suitable for a wedding. Not everyone wears twinsets and pearls.

EsperanzaDesperanza · 12/09/2017 10:11

Not keen on any of the alternatives, except maybe 2...but that's a lot like A just a different colour and neckline.

Ragwort · 12/09/2017 10:15

Agree that neither is really wedding attire, much more suited to a nightclub.

Yvetteballs · 12/09/2017 10:22

Neither are suitable for a wedding. That said, if you know other guests will be wearing similar then it will be no problem.

Rosehips · 12/09/2017 10:25

they say jealous ex girlfriend to me

Peppermeant · 12/09/2017 10:29

Esperanza Grin

Teddy1970 · 12/09/2017 10:34

Hmm I don't like your choice OP, (sorry, no offence) whatcha selection is more suitable, dress no 3 is really lovely.

SirNiallDementia · 12/09/2017 10:59

Agree that the op's dresses don't look suitable for a wedding, more for a night out in a bar/ club/ pulling. Maybe I'm a prude but they're too tight with too much flesh on show for a wedding!

I like dress 4 that the previous poster linked to.

Sarahisthename · 12/09/2017 11:01

A is lovely

Lucie8881 · 12/09/2017 11:04

Option B would look absolutely fine with the cream jacket you've mentioned. Unsure as to why some are finding it so brazen??

greeeen · 12/09/2017 11:08

Neither look suitable for a church/Manor House wedding. The red lace looks cheap and more suitable for a night out at a club. Any of the 4 the pp posted would be better.

Herschellmum · 12/09/2017 11:14

Yep I'm with whatyoucallit and I love dress 4 for a wedding as described.

Eleanorsummer · 12/09/2017 11:22

Nothing unsuitable or look at me about them at all in my opinion. I like them both but think I prefer A.

dailydance · 12/09/2017 12:51

Dress 4

A & B are not suitable for a wedding and tbh they look cheap

hazeydays14 · 12/09/2017 19:05

Thanks for the opinions everyone, especially whatyoucallit for the alternatives. I like dress 2 which is probably not surprising given my original choices Grin and the other navy one but I can't stand skater dresses on me. I look young for my age anyway and they make me look like a young teenager which I am definitely not! No boobs so no cleavage to show Grin

Yes they are cheap dresses but as a I'm about to buy my first home I'd rather spend money on my house than a dress! I am happy with how they look irl quality wise.

I'm guessing it's the red that's provoking the 'night club' response but they are darker than they look in the pictures.

Thanks anyway I will either go with B or browse for another cheap dress...

As you've specifically said it's a church wedding followed by manor house reception, I don't think either are perfect, although B would be fine with a cream blazer.

For me, it's more wondering when we will be able to buy stuff that doesn't have the shoulders cut out of it - the sooner this trends dies a death, the better! How to make even an expensive item of clothing look like it's been hanging on the sale rack of Primark for a month.

gingerbreadmam · 12/09/2017 19:31

B. A looks cheap i'm afraid.

gingerbreadmam · 12/09/2017 19:33

have you looked on next sale? they have quite a lot of branded dresses in their sale section.
