Can anyone recommend a good primer without silicone?

I don't have allergies or sensitivities or anything like that, just don't like the feel of silicone heavy primers.

I have combination/oily skin - don't mind going a bit spendy for a really good one.

Thanks!

I am always on the lookout myself as I suspect it makes my eyes sting. Have bought the Smashbox Photo Finish one but I can't really recommend it, it adds a bit of 'glow' or whatever but doesn't seem to improve wear, which is what I'm really looking for.

For the moment I am making do by patting a little bit of Urban Decay Ozone pencil primer in the worst places (sides of nose, chin, between eyebrows etc) to keep it all from sliding into creases. I have no idea if it's silicone-free but it does keep everything in place and it doesn't come near my eyes.

I was wondering about Laura Mercier which was just recommended in the NYT but it seems to contain 'lighter silicones' which doesn't solve the problem. I like Urban Decay and Korres products so may try those.

I've spent hours online researching this and have found even the primers which are said to be silicone-free contain various '-cones' even if silicone itself doesn't appear on the ingredients list, so I generally end up going in circles before I lose interest. Will watch this thread with interest!

I'm not sure what the ingredients are but I'm not getting on with the one I bought from MAC :(

PS. A friend of mine uses Benefit Dr Feelgood on its own just as a kind of skin brightener and it looks amazing on her but I've not tried it myself. It is sold as a mattifying balm but it looked quite soft and diffusing on her - not matte - just like a good primer.

PandorasXbox · 11/09/2017 09:57

Not sure what's in it but I swear by Chanel.

flippinada · 11/09/2017 10:15

Thanks all, some good ideas here.

@arousingcheer I've tried that smashbox one, it's had rave reviews but I just can't get on with it. It does have a very silicone - y feel. Not heard of that benefit one, I'll have a look.

The Laura Mercier ones I've tried a while back when they seemed to be in every beauty box going - I liked the hydrating one so maybe I'll have another look.

Was going to recommend Johnsons professional range rather than Dulux, but then realised this is S&B

I have a few that don't feel silicone like but check the ingredients
Maybelline baby skin instant fatigue blur (not the blue one, that's silicone)
Sport FX cool down primer and recovery gel
Etude House face blur (off eBay - my FAVE!)
Etude House baby choux base

You need Dermalogica primer in your life. It's like velvet. Awesome on its own or under make up:

Bare minerals is water based and silicone free. But you need to match your primer with your foundation. If your foundation is water based,go for a water based primer. If it's a silicone foundation you need a silicone based primer and so on.

Lots of good ideas, thank you :)

Sorry OP and Miracle33, I should have said what I have is the the Photo Finish Primer Water, which is a silicone-free spray. The famous Photo Finish in the tube is indeed full of silicones.

The Dermalogica primer is also full of -cones (dimethicone etc), which is what gives it that velvety texture.

GotToGetMyFingerOut which Bare Minerals primer are you using? I love Bare Minerals foundations but the Prime Time primers all seem to contain dimethicone.

Nothing Miracle (not that I'm an expert or anything), I just don't like the feel of it.

Too faced hangover primer is silicone free and there's a soap & glory one too. Also the gosh (Superdrug's) moisturising one is also silicone free. Hope that helps

flippinada · 12/09/2017 19:22

Cheaper options are good too! Thanks mint

Is that what makes your face feel like it's been dried out? I hate the feel of primer.

Meripenopause1 · 12/09/2017 23:14

Too Faced Hangover is nice as a PP said. A lot of people rate Clains Beauty Flash Balm as a primer. I'm going to try the GOSH one, I don't like that dimethicone feel either.

Meripenopause1 · 12/09/2017 23:15

Clarins

Tantpoke · 12/09/2017 23:20

My friend is a professional make up artist and she recommends using of all things Phillips milk of magnesia liquid which I'm certain has no silicones.

Just put it on a cotton wool pad and dab onto your face, let it dry and apply your foundation as normal, ta da. Works a treat.

MmmmmmmChips · 12/09/2017 23:42

Def try the Too faced Hangover

HappenstanceMarmite · 16/09/2017 14:18

Do silicones clog the pores?

Nicketynac · 24/09/2017 21:34

I bought the Etude House one recommended above. It arrived yesterday and it's lovely. My make up went on really nicely and I used it today without foundation - it gives a lovely, non-shiny glow. Bought it off amazon and it took ten days to arrive from Korea.

Ollivander84 · 25/09/2017 01:03

Nickety - yay! Did you get the face blur one?
