Is this appropriate for a job interview?

I have a job interview later this month and I really really want this job. I'm qualified for it, but I know first impressions are important too. I'm never sure what to wear for these things. In my industry we wear uniforms for day to day.
I really like this dress, but is it too bright? Should I go more conservative?

Link doesn't work

Tottyandmarchpane1 · 10/09/2017 11:13

It looks absolutely fine to me - I interview people all the time and would think this was fine. Suppose it may depend on your industry though.

PaperdollCartoon · 10/09/2017 11:15

No not appropriate, looks like you're going to a summer garden party. You need something professional looking, not fun.

HelloSquirrels · 10/09/2017 11:16

I think it's absolutely fine.

JellyBean89 · 10/09/2017 11:16

I think it looks ok, it can be very smart with the right shoes and attitude. Yes it's bright but I have seen people wear bright things at interviews and in the office so I don't see why not. I hope you get the job x

Thissameearth · 10/09/2017 11:18

Link worked for me. I don't know what the job is which maybe relevant but to me (lawyer) that is a very casual style of dress and I wouldn't feel comfortable in it for an interview. The colour is not necessarily a problem - bright is fine - but I'd prefer a more structured shape without frills (and i always feel a bit "hanging" in wrapovers and always keep checking the neck and hemline are not gaping.

buggerthebotox · 10/09/2017 11:18

No-too ruffly, too "fun".

PaperdollCartoon · 10/09/2017 11:18

Are people looking at a duffest dress? Bright is fine, frilly is not.

PaperdollCartoon · 10/09/2017 11:18

Different*

HelloSquirrels · 10/09/2017 11:19

Didn't realise you had to be boring at a job interview! I'm pretty sure there are no rules against ruffles (it's barely ruffley anyway)

MynewnameisKy · 10/09/2017 11:20

In my opinion too ruffly and bright. It depends on the industry but in mine I would think it doesn't say "Professional".

Loyly · 10/09/2017 11:21

I don't think it's appropriate.

HeddaGarbled · 10/09/2017 11:22

Depends on the industry, but I think it's not business-like enough for an interview. I suppose with a smart black jacket, tights and shoes, you could make it look more formal but really, I'd choose something more formal in the first place.

Redtartanshoes · 10/09/2017 11:22

Really depends on the job. I would always wear a suit for interview. You won't be judged for being over dressed but could be for being under dressed

swizzlestar · 10/09/2017 11:23

I work in a really casual, fun industry and I wouldn't wear that to an interview. I like 8t though!

crazymissdaisy · 10/09/2017 11:26

With a jacket and smart shoes it could be work wear if your office environment was smart casual, but for an interview you need to up the ante and dress more formally than for a day at the office: tailored jacket with a structured dress or a blouse and smart tailored trousers or skirt, I mean in a stiff fabric that's cut (tailored) to the shape of your body, rather than a soft fabric that clings. I know it sounds odd, but you also want your clothes to be anonymous, so you're not " the candidate with the red dress", you can still wear your interesting shoes or pretty blouse, but what the panel will remember should be "the candidate with the impressive amount of experience ".

pullingmyhairout1 · 10/09/2017 11:30

Not professional enough imo.

TittyGolightly · 10/09/2017 11:30

i wore this to my last interview and was also worried about it being too bright. I wore it with a sharp black jacket and not only did I get the job, but the interviewer asked me where it was from because it "was smart but showed personality".

I now wear it with an orange cardigan or jacket as well as the black one and it will work with black tights for the winter.

It's not available anymore but something similar might work for you?

Looks lovely! I would wear it with tights and a black blazer and something like these: www.tesco.com/direct/ff-sensitive-sole-block-heel-pointed-toe-court-shoes/373-4044.prd

ILoveMrDarcy · 10/09/2017 11:32

Titty Where is that dress from? It's lovely

TittyGolightly · 10/09/2017 11:33

Debenhams. It was only £25 too!

Wunderkind77 · 10/09/2017 11:34

God no, that's not appropriate. That's not a work dress!

ILoveMrDarcy · 10/09/2017 11:34

I'm going to search for it now! Thanks
