Is this appropriate for a job interview?

I have a job interview later this month and I really really want this job. I'm qualified for it, but I know first impressions are important too. I'm never sure what to wear for these things. In my industry we wear uniforms for day to day.
I really like this dress, but is it too bright? Should I go more conservative?

Depending on your figure, wrap dresses can show quite a lot of cleavage. The weather's getting a lot cooler so it looks very lightweight for autumn. The feminine frills suggest softness, rather than clarity and efficiency. Red suggests emotion, passion and sexuality.

So to me it gives an impression of flirtatious impracticality, rather than a kind of grownup seriousness.

Not smart enough for me but it depends what the job is.

Larrythecat · 10/09/2017 11:40

I think it depends on the industry. I'd think it's a dress you could wear to the office during summer, but it might be too casual for an interview. Maybe if you wear a black jacket on top, but I agree that usually you step up the style for an interview.

I like the last dress that the pp posted, it is more of a formal structure and the colours contrast nicely. With a dark structured jacket it would look smart and with a light cardigan would look more casual.

It's a lovely dress and nobody is going to think that you can't have the job because you were dressed in an unsuitable manner, but I don't think it gives the impression of having stepped up your style for the interview.

I suppose it could depend on the industry you work in. But personally think it's not professional enough/appropriate for an interview. But I'm very much a standard for interviews you wear suits type.

allaboutthatsass · 10/09/2017 11:47

a dress is fine, that dress is not. don't wear it.

It also depends on your shape too. If you are short and plus size like me, don't wear it. If you have big boobs (again like me) don't wear it.

Go for black trousers, patterned or coloured top, black blazer, nice simple jewellery

Nuttynoo · 10/09/2017 11:47

Not appropriate.

ILoveMrDarcy · 10/09/2017 11:48

Titty I can't find it, have you got a link?

NC4now · 10/09/2017 11:49

Can you tell us the industry? It isn't something I'd wear for my line of work but could be in another job.

TheFaerieQueene · 10/09/2017 11:50

It really depends on the job.

SquedgieBeckenheim · 10/09/2017 11:55

Wow, didn't expect so many replies! Thanks everyone, I didn't think it was appropriate but DH was telling me it was fine and not to go buying another dress. I will hit the shops next week and find something more formal.

As I said, it's not available anymore. :(

I love the Dorothy Perkins links below.

I find myself buying more and more in DP and Oasis and a couple of years ago I wouldn't have set foot in them.

EmmaC78 · 10/09/2017 13:20

I would recommend Dorothy Perkins too. I get a lot of my work dresses in there. You should be able to get something for less than £30

Stormyweather1 · 10/09/2017 21:50

It's lovely but very light and summery.

Maybe it'd work for a summer interview (not in all workplaces) with smart hair and bag but I'm afraid I don't see it working with a structured jacket and tights for autumn bearing in mind it could be getting chilly later in the month.

Best of luck op!!
