Why doesn't my face ever feel moisturised after moisturising?

Honey1975 · 09/09/2017 08:56

I've tried so many moisturisers all different price ranges but my face never seems to feel moisturised. It always feels a bit dry & tight.

I recently had some vouchers so treated myself to Clarins hydraquench moisturiser as I've always found their products to be very good. The lady told me to use only a small amount and pat it in to my face. I still don't feel moisturised!

My skin all over is fairly dry and nothing ever really seems to help but it's bothering me more on my face as I hate the dry feeling and it makes me look tired. I want to look dewy!

Can anyone help before I waste any more money?

Use olive oil. Seriously...I've spent so much money in the past on moisturisers and I also have dry skin. Now I just slap some olive oil on and my skin's tonnes better.

I use sunblock seperately when needed.

You need to be using a hydrating serum as well. Add hylaronic acid into your regime before moisturizing, the ordinary do one for around £10. I really enjoy the NIOD one as igs texture is almost like water but it's more expensive around £35. Vichy aqualia is a good shout too, around £20 Mark.

Honey1975 · 09/09/2017 09:08

I did try a sample of serum that the Clarins lady gave me and it did help but i think a bottle was about £70!!

Shock it's mad isn't it, I can't spend £70 on a serum! My skin is dehydrated and the ones above make a real difference, without the price tag!

Ktown · 09/09/2017 09:21

Stick a drop of grapeseed oil in it
It is my answer to every skin complaint.
Same for foundation- makes the world of difference!

A serum will help a lot. My skin feels tight with just a moisturiser. I use the Una Brennan Superfacialist Vit C serum which is often on offer in Boots. It's about £16 otherwise. It smells lovely and is very hydrating and silicony like a lot of serums I've tried. It's full of hylaronic acid too as a pp has mentioned. The whole superfacialist range is excellent actually. I also love the vit c moisturiser and Cleansing oil and the rose cream cleanser is beautiful. The producta are often on 3 for 2.

Cakescakescakes · 09/09/2017 09:22

Meant to say NOT silicony

MaisieDotes · 09/09/2017 09:24

I don't agree with using a tiny bit. I think you have to use quite a lot of moisturiser to really get the benefit.

I stopped using Clarins and changed to LRP for this reason. It's cheaper so I can use it abundantly Smile

Honey1975 · 09/09/2017 09:27

I agree Maisie, I feel like I just want to get a big dollop of it and rub it all over but if I did the pot wouldn't last long! Patting in a tiny amount is not effective!

YY to using a lot of moisturiser! I have started to cleanse with baby lotion or coconut oil too, which helps.

MorrisZapp · 09/09/2017 09:28

Me too. I can't wear any foundation at all. My face is an arid desert, and any make up on it looks like someone has smeared tippex onto sandpaper.

I have started using oils but I'm not convinced. I can add products which soften my skin but there's absolutely no cumulative effect. When I wash the oil/mask/serum etc off, I'm as parched as ever.

Sali Hughes claims to have extremely dry skin but she's lying. If she had extremely dry skin then she wouldn't be able to wear foundation.

JennyHolzersGhost · 09/09/2017 09:29

What cleanser or other products do you use ?

icedtea · 09/09/2017 09:29

Try using coconut oil. I've used it for years.

CinderellasBroom · 09/09/2017 09:31

I have skin like that. For years I've used Natural Elegance Goats Milk Moisturising Cream, only thing that works on me. They do sample pots, if you ask

Runlovingmummy81 · 09/09/2017 09:32

I use camomile cleanser from body shop and that's lovely and moisturising. I've found layering things works. So I use a marks and Spencer's primer for skin care after cleansing and toning followed by a hoots botanics serum and loreal hydra quench moisturizer. If it's feeling especially dry I've got some tropics facial oil which is lovely. For nighttime I do the same but use body shop vitamin e night cream which is thick and lovely. X

Honey1975 · 09/09/2017 09:34

Jenny I use the superdrug version of cleanse & polish but I'm not really liking it as it feels heavy like clay on my face!

Runlovingmummy81 · 09/09/2017 09:38

Boots not hoots 😂

Timeandtune · 09/09/2017 09:48

It is worth thinking about how hydrated you are generally because this will be reflected in your skin.
I would cut back on the cleansing ( unless you are wearing heavy make up) and add some sort of oil to your moisturising routine.

travailtotravel · 09/09/2017 09:48

Also to point out nutrition and hydration play a huge part in this, boring though it is to mention.

purplecorkheart · 09/09/2017 09:49

I use a facial scrub every few days.Otherwise I find my nothing works

MCBeatsandGrindah · 09/09/2017 09:51

The only thing I've found that works is to put a layer of Vaseline on top of my serum and moisturiser overnight.

Honey1975 · 09/09/2017 09:52

Is serum the same as oil?

OP posts:
Auspiciouspanda · 09/09/2017 09:55

If you have dry skin just using moisturiser isn't going to fix the problem.

You need to cleanse, tone, serum and moisturise morning and night if you want to see results.

I would stay away from Clarins and Clinique as £££.

I use nip & fab dragons blood cleansing pads (Superdrug nearly always have these on offer never pay full price), body shop vitamin e toner, khiels midnight recovery concentrate and origins ginzing energy boosting moisturiser

ontherightpath · 09/09/2017 09:57

Exfoliate every few days, I find a granular exfoliator is much more efficient & less irritating/drying than the chemical ones - the one by Burts Bees is lovely. And start taking fish/krill oil every day, check you're drinking enough water, diet is not too heavy on carbs etc.

Runlovingmummy81 · 09/09/2017 10:03

Agree a scrub would help. I do this twice a week. I use the tropics one which is chemical free and lush!
