Makeup removing cleanser for acneic/spot prone skin

I know this is done to death, but does anyone have any cleanser recommendations? For step 1 (makeup removing) of the 2 step cleansing thing. I only do 2 steps if I've been wearing makeup.

-Emma Hardie too expensive
-Liz Earle breaks me out

  • The 2 Superdrug ones (vitamin e and naturally radiant) have cocoa butter in which has broken me out in the past

Soap & glory seem to do one. Has anyone tried it? Or any alternatives?
Thanks all.

So step 2 is my cerave cleanser and I just use that on days where I don't wear makeup.

I would recommend La Roche-Posay Toleriane Dermo Cleanser. Much gentler and less fragranced than those mentioned above

BagelGoesWalking · 07/09/2017 17:47

London Just clicked on post to say that Grin

I like the LRP Toleriane Dermo Cleanser but only as a second cleanse, it doesn't remove makeup very well.
DHC cleansing oil is great, followed by the LRP

BagelGoesWalking · 07/09/2017 19:55

LRP Toleriane Sensitive Micellar water is good at taking off makeup- my DD uses it and it's definitely more gentle than Garnier equivalent.

TheBitterBoy · 07/09/2017 20:57

I've tried the Soap and Glory one - I find it stings my face, and I get on well with Liz Earle, they are pretty similar. My current fave is M&S Pure rose cleansing balm - it is a much better priced cleanser in the style of Emma Hardie's , but a slightly more subtle scent.

Clinique take the day off

Sensitive Skin Baby Wipes??

iamdazedandconfused · 07/09/2017 21:08

The Body Shop do a camomile oil (I've used that continuously for years now) and they do a solid balm version of it if you'd prefer.

I have quite spotty skin and find it really quick and easy to take make up off, it also doesn't leave my skin feeling dry/stripped Smile I think it's about £12.

Twelvety · 07/09/2017 22:08

Thanks all. The Clinique and DHC are too pricey for me atm unfortunately. Sorry I didn't mention budget in my OP.

dazed I will check out the body shop one. Interestingly the oil doesn't have shea butter (also problematic for me) but the balm does, so I will definitely check out the oil.

And I'll try out the LRP too. I find their range so confusing so it's good to have a recommendation!

My hideously spotty skin is clearing up with Garnier Miscellar

I decided to stop trying and just remove makeup so got a bottle. Ironically I'm pretty close to being able not to use make up now!!

archaeoptyrx · 07/09/2017 22:48

I use Garnier micellar water with zinc (for combination skin) to remove make up then plain Cetaphil which I wash off before using LRP moisturiser. My acne prone skin is as good as it has been.

delilahbucket · 07/09/2017 22:53

I also use garnier micellar cleansing water for make up removal on a night and la Roche Posay effaclar in the morning. I use Clinique Redness solutions to moisturise in the morning. I normally break out the day after wearing foundation but I wore it every day on holiday with this regime and didn't have a single spot.

delilahbucket · 07/09/2017 22:54

Ps. Don't use baby wipes. They aren't good for the face and they don't remove all of your makeup.

Twelvety · 08/09/2017 09:20

Thanks again. I've never used a micellar water so I might try that out.

As someone who has had acne since a young child, I can recommend going to Poundland and buying Simple / Neutrogena / anything gel-based as a facial wash. No need to spend a lot of money to find something effective and non-aggravating.

upsiedayz · 08/09/2017 09:25

I like Lush ultrabalm cleanser

highinthesky · 08/09/2017 09:25

Btw I'm now mid-40s and my skin has never looked better. In the last month I have been mistaken for being in my mid-20s, and in my 30s.

GettingThereSlowly01 · 08/09/2017 09:48

I find that if my step two cleanser is right then I have more leeway over what I use for step one. If I only wanted to do one step I would use a make up remover such a micellar water plus my second cleanser; I like an Una Brennan one which is quite reasonable: www.boots.com/super-facialist-salicylic-acid-purifying-cleansing-wash-150ml-10145894

I'm using this as a first step at the moment and like it:

Lush ultrabalm badly clogged up my plug hole!

Una Brennan facialist Vitamin C oil cleaner is BRILLIANT: massage into a dry face and take off with a hot wet flannel

BumWad · 08/09/2017 20:14

Soap glory take the day off
Dermalogica pre-cleanse

TheHamptons · 08/09/2017 20:15

Yes I like the Una Brennan one.

MooGoo do a cleansing oil for oily skin (sounds counterproductive but it really isn't) which is lovely. Contains drawing oils and has calming ones in. Follow with nice gentle face wash.

Skin is calmer. I am more impressed than I expected to be. I bought the combination skin one as that's my skin type and my skin is better. Fewer fine lines and feels less aggravated

BumWad · 08/09/2017 20:15

Ooh yea what apple said too that una Brennan vitamin c one is great although smells like a kitchen cleaner
