Where do you shop if you are under 5ft 2"?

Stuck in a rut visiting the same old high street shop for clothes that don't stock petite sizing and having to be very selective with what I can get away with.
Please tell me where you shop if you are under 5ft 2"

Uniqlo, Wallis and Next petite

Liiinoo · 06/09/2017 07:40

I am 5' 1". I guess it depends what your style is. I found it harder when I required a business wardrobe. Nowadays I am mainly 'smart casual' and don't wear trousers or skirts, I stick to jeans, leggings and dresses. I find that what looks like a tunic on a 6ft tall model can be a dress on me. I like Uniqlo for jeans, Phase 8 for dresses and tops, I also buy quite a few 'lagenlook' tops on Amazon.

I know it is done to death on here but go for a personal shop at John Lewis. It is free and I have got some great ideas from them. One dress in particular this year. The shopper recommended it and although I liked the way it looked I didn't buy it as I thought I would never wear it. It preyed on my my mind for a couple of weeks and I went back and bought it and I have worn it to death this summer. It is the navy Lola dress from Whistles and it is a great length on me so might be good for you.

Helpmestyleitup · 06/09/2017 14:32

Thanks so much for your replies. I read earlier this morning about the John Lewis personal shopper but didn't realise it was free. May have to give it a go. Because of my size, I need things fairly fitted otherwise I look like I'm drowning. It doesn't help by the fact my stomach isn't flat.

I'm a casual dresser, skinny jeans & converse or boots in the winter. Tshirt or jumper depending on the weather. Quite uninspiring but I can't be bothered with the hassle of skirts and dresses in the day when I'm with the children. I don't want the concern of flashing my underwear or tripping over material.

I find M&S have some pretty decent short people clothes. Either in their petite range or just the short ones. I buy my jeans and work trousers from there and they fit perfectly. I'm 5ft.

OlderGolder · 06/09/2017 14:38

I'm 5'1' and I shop at the normal shops but if it comes to jeans I get the shorter length if they do one. Petite ranges are often not as nice for some reason.

M&S beware of their short range, I ordered a pair of short work trousers and I will have to return them as they are so short they look like comedy trousers. I have found this before with M&S petite. It is older person with osteoporosis short. Not 5'2'' short. It is good that there are trousers for all heights available if you're average short iyswim then I think M&S short is too short. Next Short range is good.

LifeofClimb · 06/09/2017 14:59

Generally, the high street - new look, topshop, H&M, dorothy perkins. I do shop online more than high st shopping though, mainly Asos.

My problem is my torso is short, not so much my legs. My shoulders are reasonably broad (hourglass shape) so I fit into most size 8 or 10s. I just avoid Next and M&S, the sizes are way too big for shorties (I'm 5 foot). 30" leg is fine on me so I'm pretty lucky in that regard! I tend to buy cropped tops and jumpers, because they aren't sooo long like normal tops Grin. They just look fitted or slightly cropped.

nickEcave · 06/09/2017 16:00

Thanks for the Lola dress tip Liinoo. Just ordered the check version half price in Whistles sale. However I did notice on the product details that it says "dry clean only" - have you washed yours? I second the comment about tunics working as dresses - I'm 4 foot 11 and in the past have bought White Stuff tunics to wear as dresses.

KatherinaMinola · 06/09/2017 16:10

Warehouse and Gap. I've had a couple of good pairs of trousers from M&S Shock recently - the M&S Collection range.

I also buy a lot of children's clothes - H&M, Uniqlo for basics.

Helpmestyleitup · 06/09/2017 16:34

This is all such a help - thanks.

@Lifeofclimb - I'm going to have to focus a bit more on cropped jumpers. I've also stayed away from them but everything seems to be getting longer these days.

Helpful advice for tunics as I've avoided these because they are too long and battled with dress hems!

What do you tend to wear/what is your style?

If it's of help my jeans tend to come from either Topshop or Oasis (short length for both)

I am 5'2" and I am slowly losing the will to live in the trouser department. I am finding that I am wearing more dresses with tights and boots as it's just easier length wise (and it doesn't restrict shops). RI/Topshop/New look etc are fine for this

LesPins · 06/09/2017 16:58

J Crew, Gap and Banana republic do petite. American brands are your friend!

imjessie · 06/09/2017 17:07

I'm 5 ft and shop wherever I want . Short length are fine and otherwise I get them turned up . I'm a very curvy size 10 though so I'm not sure if my curves take up some of the length ( is that even possible ?) .. I often just do one small turn up on my trousers and find that look works quite well .

Helpmestyleitup · 06/09/2017 17:09

@lespins - thanks for the tip. Had never considered these brands or focusing on American lines.

@Lexielulu - have you tried topshop or oasis for skinny jeans?

OP posts:
Helpmestyleitup · 06/09/2017 17:12

@imjessie - I wish I was more curvy! What is your style? Which specific high street shops do you go to for tops?

OP posts:
imjessie · 06/09/2017 17:15

My style is very casual , I shop in h and m , oasis , Tesco , crew , marks .. all over really . I always find something I like and that fits . I am 43 though and I guess I can kind of look at something and know it will fit me . I have literally never bought anything petite 🤔

imjessie · 06/09/2017 17:17

I have never found tops too long , sometimes vests but I can roll them under if so . What sort of thing are you after ? Asos have a petite range I think .

HerOtherHalf · 06/09/2017 17:19

Hobbitat?

Sorry, I'll get my coat.

imjessie · 06/09/2017 17:29

🤣🤣🤣

PaperdollCartoon · 06/09/2017 17:43

5"2, fairly in proportion size 12 (sometimes 14 in jeans) I shop mostly on H&M, Boden and ASOS.

IHaveBrilloHair · 06/09/2017 17:45

ASOS petite, Superdry, Hollister, New look.
All pretty good for shorties, I'm 5'and half an inch and size 6-8.

Helpmestyleitup · 06/09/2017 19:04

@herotherhalf 🤣🤣🤣

@imjessie - I'm in a rut and lost my way a bit. My height is in my legs so have a short torso and insignificant chest. I find v necks too exposing as there is nothing to pull the material out enough! The length of tops often reach my crotch instead of my hips.

I have a winter 'uniform' that's very uninspiring and dreading going out next week to shop for new autumn/winter clothing. Just want some nice stuff that suits and fits rather than always settling for what fits but doesn't always suit...

OP posts:
imjessie · 06/09/2017 20:22

I always find Primark tops quite short , maybe you could try there ? Polo Necks are good for small chests ?

LexieLulu · 06/09/2017 22:56

No I've never tried oasis jeans! New look and Doretha Perkins jeans I have.

New look - fab but the elastic isn't great. Other jeans I wear a few times before washing, these the knees start feeling baggy.

DP - one pair of short length leggings were my saviour. Worn them till they had a hole in them. Bought exactly the same jeans in the same length and they were miles too long! Bugs me when one shop doesn't maintain sizing.

I'll be going to try on jeans from any suggestions on here x

Brillenbar · 07/09/2017 06:37

I'm same height and I like boden petite cut jeans and trousers
