Wet hair to work?

Leo10 · 05/09/2017 21:23

Is it unprofessional or lazy to have wet hair in the morning?

I have curly hair and normally wash it every other morning. I need to lay off the heat and let my curls dry naturally.
But wet hair at work, I'm just not sure. Does it come across as lazy? Unprofessional?

I don't particularly like going to bed with wet hair but shall I suck it up and wash hair at night?

Thanks

So I think it probably is, but I do it most days!

LadyWithLapdog · 05/09/2017 21:29

I think if you live close enough to work that it doesn't have time to dry you should make the time for drying.

OlderGolder · 05/09/2017 21:30

I do this. My hair is curly so I put a clip in it to hold it off my face and the journey to work makes it curly. It had never occurred to me that it was unprofessional. Lots of people use to arrive from the gym with wet hair when I worked in the city.

Mum2jenny · 05/09/2017 21:31

If my hair dries in the car on the way to work, it's good. If it doesn't, I really don't care!

TheMasterNotMargarita · 05/09/2017 21:31

I drive in so usually prioritise getting on makeup and then I put the heating on full blast in the car so it mostly dries by the time I get in.
Brush it through before I go in. Voila!

stoplickingthetelly · 05/09/2017 21:35

I do this if I'm wearing my hair curly, but it dries pretty quickly so it's not very wet when I arrive at work, just damp so it looks fine.

BroomstickOfLove · 05/09/2017 21:36

But lady, if you have thick curly hair, it will take hours to dry, do you would need to get up in the middle of the night.

OP does your hair look ok if you sleep with it wet? Mine is terrible, all limp and flat. But I can use the pixie curl hairdrying method with a diffuser. If your hair is very easily damaged, that might not work for you, but it's worth trying.

I've been going in to work with wet hair for twenty years. I've never used a hairdryer.

tigerdriverII · 05/09/2017 21:38

Wash it less. Every other day is a lot for curly hair. Dry shampoo will help.

Wet hair to work : sorry, yuk

LadyWithLapdog · 05/09/2017 21:39

Oh, sorry, I didn't think about curly hair. Mine is short and it takes two blasts of the hairdryer or the 5 minute drive to work (with heating on in the car).

PacificDogwod · 05/09/2017 21:39

I have short curly hair, wash it about 2x/wk, and it is often damp when I arrive at work.
It's clean, it smells nice, it looks less chaotic than it does when it's due a wash - all good Smile

RidiculousDiversion · 05/09/2017 21:40

I leave the house with it wet, and get to work with it dry (combination of short hair and warm tube carriage). I wouldn't think any less of someone who turned up with damp hair, though I'd be a bit surprised if it was dripping wet.

Ollivander84 · 05/09/2017 21:41

Lady EnvyEnvyEnvy
An HOUR to diffuse my hair and it's still not dry

Vinorosso74 · 05/09/2017 21:46

I wish I could leave my fine, limp hair to dry naturally! Looks horrendous if I do.
I don't see a problem, it's not going to be dripping wet when you're at work, perhaps if you were meeting a client it might not be so good.

taybert · 05/09/2017 21:50

Why is it "yuk" to have freshly washed hair?

Leo10 · 05/09/2017 21:52

I try to go longer than 2 days but hair gets greasy. I have used dry shampoo which works ok on my roots but 3 day curls is not a good look. Could brush hair and scrape into a bun but looks frizzy, all for the sake of not washing it.
I'm going to see if it's limp in the morning after washing tonight.

If yes then I'll try the pixie blow dry method.
I have long thick curly hair, takes about 4 hrs to dry naturally.

Thanks for all your replies. Smile

If I wash mine in the evening i look like Ken dodd in the morning.

PacificDogwod · 05/09/2017 21:58

I can wash mine in the evening but then wake up looking like Helena Bonham-Carter dragged through a hedge backwards.
Simply scrunching it again with wet hands seems to work though - gives it a semblance of civilisation.

imjessie · 05/09/2017 22:00

I don't work but have thick curly hair . No way could I sleep on it wet as it would go flat and frizzy . I have wondered how people manage if they wash their hair every day? ( I don't ) . If I was in a professional role I would straighten it or tie it back ( but being curly it doesn't ever look smart tied up!)

TiggeryBear · 05/09/2017 22:03

I always go to work with wet hair - it takes me 40 minutes to blow-dry it & then NEEDS to be straightened or I look like a member of the hair bear bunch! I leave the house with 18month old at 7:15am & we don't get home before 7pm most nights. The last thing I want to do is get up another hour earlier than I have to. Washing before bed isn't feasible as I sweat so much in my sleep (suffer from hyperhidrosis) that I need a shower in the morning anyway.

ImSoUnoriginal · 05/09/2017 22:03

Thank you broomstick for the info/link. My hair is pretty sort now but I've always gone into work with wet hair, if I happen too have washed it in the morning. Never though anything of it. There are more important things in life to worry about and as long as the rest of you looks presentable, I don't think it matters.

pigeondujour · 05/09/2017 22:04

Mine's curly ish but couldn't be left damp (it wouldn't ever dry and I'd look deranged). I know what you mean about laying off the heat but honestly I just use a good heat protector and accept that it's necessary. I usually curl it rather than straightening it though - I know that sounds weird but it's much more forgiving of rain/humidity and means it doesn't need any heat at all on non-wash days.

ftw · 05/09/2017 22:08

Look for curly girl method - you can wash it a lot less and do week day refreshes (so hair gets a lot less wet).

JackietheBackie · 05/09/2017 22:09

I also have long thick curly hair and never, ever blow dry mine. I wash it a couple of times a week - in the morning. Wrap it in a towel while I have my breakfast/ get ready for work, couple of clips (crocodile clips? The springy ones with little teeth) to keep it off my face, and head into work. It looks drying by the time I get in, but isn't properly dry til lunchtime. A satin pillowcase (or bonnet if you can bear it) at night will protect your curls from frizziness and help you go longer between washes without looking like a hot frizzy mess.

oldlaundbooth · 05/09/2017 22:10

Looks lazy and unprofessional.
