Has anyone had this kind of 'work' done?

  1. Eyebrow tattooing?

Is it natural looking? Does it make you look forever heavy and 'photo-faced'?
Did it hurt? Did you have to hide away for a bit if it looked too heavy to start with?

  1. Teeth. Veneers or such-like. How much did it cost? Did it hurt? How long did it take?
  1. Botox for heavy grown lines. Would you recommend it? Can it be so subtly done so that people point and think "she looks nice and different - has she lost weight on her face?"

Any thoughts very welcome. I'm feeling old and saggy and tough around the edges and I have a very important wedding next year and want to feel and look my best.

Teeth - I had ABB, alignment bleach bonding - much less invasive than veneers

This is a pretty good explanation of what the process is and benefit over veneers

www.northhilldental.co.uk/Abb.html

Mine was something like £4000 but this was central London prices. Took about 3 months, maybe 4 tops. Completely love the results. I would never, ever had done veneers as I didn't want my natural teeth damaged. My dentist doesn't actually offer veneers any more for that reason - they only do ABB

I also had botox for the first time in June - although not for particularly deep lines, although very noticeable to me, not so much to anyone else. Not a single person had a clue - people who I told were gobsmacked. I looked like me, just fresher.

stumblymonkeyagain · 03/09/2017 10:03

I've had veneers....10 in total.

It cost me £8500 at one of the top London dentists about 6 years ago. It didn't hurt but did involve three or four trips to the dentist and a couple of those trips were 2-2.5 hours.

I bloody love them. My teeth were a state beforehand and now I get comments about what lovely teeth I have.

stumblymonkeyagain · 03/09/2017 10:04

I have to say my teeth were way beyond the point that ABB would have solved the issues.

CurlsLDN · 03/09/2017 10:13

I went with a friend for her eyebrow tattoo, I was highly sceptical but I was so impressed with it all!

The needle used was super fine and the same kit they use to recreate nipples after mastectomy.

She took along her usual eyebrow pencil and they mixed the dye to match exactly. They also created a slightly lighter and darker shade and drew on individual strokes to replicate the look of fine eyebrow hairs, using all three shades to prevent a blocky look.

They initially did it quite lightly then she went back two weeks later where she had to option to have more colour added if she felt it neccessary.

She is very blonde and used a very light eyebrow pencil day to day to draw in her naturally invisible eyebrows. The results were a permanent version of her very natural every day look - as far from scouse brow as you could imagine! You would honestly never have known they weren't real brows unless you looked with a magnifying glass

Heyx · 03/09/2017 10:18

I know someone whose tattooed eyebrows look ridiculous as they flare right up at the ends and she has no hair at all, just like a drawn on pattern. I would say choose the shape carefully.

I had my two front teeth veneered and it has made a massive difference. Very expensive and quite invasive so I would never get the whole lot done.

Botox only in forehead and it makes a big difference. I think it's fillers that make Simon Cowell et al look puffy and odd. Did you say them all on the X factor last night? They must have had their Injections topped up before the show.

Heratnumber7 · 03/09/2017 10:27

I'd be worried about having tattooed eyebrows as I get older. They aren't going to thin and grey like the rest of my hair, so would eventually look silly I think.

bananafish81 · 03/09/2017 10:29

Worth checking whether you're getting tattooed old style or micro bladed. And ask to see the practitioner's work. Lots of it!!

Some work looks great. Some looks bloody awful. Like with anything cosmetic, don't skimp - botox I wouldn't get from anyone in a salon, I'd go to a dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon. You need someone who's studied the anatomy of the nerves etc, not just done the 2 day botox course

CurlsLDN · 03/09/2017 10:35

I believe that eyebrow tattoos are usually done with non-permanent ink, so they fade over the years and you either fill in with pencil or have them topped up with tattoo

WhatKindOfFuckeryTisThis · 03/09/2017 18:11

Curls, its done with semi-permanent ink and it fades leaving behind grey tattoo stains. If you go with eyebrow tattoos make sure you go somewhere who knows what they're doing. They need topping up regularly and if you don't like them you're going to have to pay more money to have them lasered off. It's expensive and you get what you pay for so don't go for 'too good to be true' deals cos it really will be too good to be true and not in a good way.

These are the best...

I've never seen a realistic eyebrow tattoo, and unfortunately once they're on you have to rely on them fading (which is an unknown quantity). I recently heard about eyebrow implants where a patient had a case of alopecia, 6 months on the recipient is delighted with the results. Personally, I'm happy to use an eyebrow pencil for the rest of my life.

As for veneers, they too can be very obvious looking, so be careful about who you select to do the work. I think the Duchess of Cambridge is very stylish until she smiles....uugh.

MotherofA · 03/09/2017 18:27

I've had my brows nano bladed , I drove 3 hours to an expert and paid a lot more than you would for your average micro blading . Amazing, best thing I've ever done .

I've had my teeth bleached twice , 5 years apart . That was inexpensive and well worth it .

Sister had had Botox and lip fillers, I would have a bit of Botox if I felt I needed to .

I don't think anyone would say I look fake or would even look twice at my eyebrows . They look like hair and I am so glad I got them done .

WhatKindOfFuckeryTisThis · 03/09/2017 18:33

I know someone who had veneers done and then had to have root canal treatments because dentist was heavy handed with drill. Now looks like he needs an implant in one of them because the root has weakened - not helped by the fact a root canal file snapped and was left there. Dentist didn't tell him and friend only found this out after going to another specialist dentist. Veneers don't last forever and need replacing. Natural gnashers always look best. High is right about duchess Kate. They just look false and they age her.

NomDePlumeReloaded · 03/09/2017 18:36

Goodness me, your friend's dentist sounds like a butcher, fuckery Shock

KatyBerry · 03/09/2017 18:41

i've had botox for the 11's between my eyes, and frankly want to do it again. I think I've had it four or five times over teh course of eight years (absolute bollox do you need it every three months like they'll try and upsell it to you). I love it. It stops me looking angry and if they do a bit at the outside edge of your eyebrow it gives you a little lift too (but not so much as early noughties Kylie!).
I have been to three different people in two places, and would strongly recommend getting an actual surgeon to do it not a nurse whose done a course - i found the results stunningly better with Dr Russo of Wigmore (wimpole?) aesthetic than with either of the two I saw at Tracey Mountford's place (inc TM herself; she is a dermatologist i think). Russo has done the last two rounds & I'll go back to him again

WhatKindOfFuckeryTisThis · 03/09/2017 18:42

Nom - that's one way of putting it. Bloody cowboy dentist out to make a profit. Totally ruined my friends teeth and confidence!

ConspicuouslyInconspicuous · 03/09/2017 19:00

I love my microbladed brows, no more gaps and very natural looking brows. I'm 3 months in and still loving them.

Would definitely recommend.

WelshMoth · 03/09/2017 20:43

Thanks everyone for all this feedback.

For those with the veneers: did you approach your normal dentist or did you see a different one?

Re eyebrows - what are the long term plans? Re-do? Will they fade and blur?

Botox - how much do you pay? I have the 11's between the eyes and a horizontal line underneath that right on the bridge. My non-smoking mouth is also looking a bit cats-bum so is that Botox-able?!

MissAlabamaWhitman · 03/09/2017 20:51

If you've had Botox then other women who've also had it will be able to tell. It's quite obvious when somebody is widening their eyes and flaring their nostrils slightly because they can't frown or raise their eyebrows.

Yes everybody who has it gives themselves away to other 'users'

It depends on how much you care that others know that you use it. Now the world and its dog gets Botox I don't bother anymore and I was quite the fan six to eight years ago.

Immobilising your face is like bleaching your hair, done with expertise it can look fabulous but everybody knows it isn't real.

bananafish81 · 03/09/2017 21:14

Thing to remember about anything cosmetic is that it needs maintenance

Veneers need replacing so once you're invested, you have to factor in the cost further down the line. At least, this was the case when I looked into it - this may well be different now, so will happily be put straight (no pun intended) if that's no longer the case

Botox? Needs topping up
Fillers? Same
Breast implants? Need replacing
Face lift? Surgical one Lasts 7-10 years. Non surgical much less.
Microblading? Needs topping up

So many women will take out loans to get breast implants, but less scrupulous clinics won't make it clear that they'll need replacing further down the line, and they'll need to think about the cost of further surgery in the future.

Botox and fillers are very very obviously not permanent, it's like getting your hair dyed.

But very few cosmetic procedures are actually 100% permanent - just worth thinking about maintenance when you start out.

If your teeth CAN be fixed with a brace then this will last, as long as a fixed wire is put in place. Depends what your issues are, as @stumblymonkeyagain says. I've had a couple of tiny chips in my bonding over the years, but cost a couple of hundred quid to get it patched up, so pretty low maintenance

Shadow1986 · 03/09/2017 21:19

Very tempted with eyebrow tattooing at the moment as I don't seem to be able to pencil them very well. I think km slightly nervous of the scabby stage. Doing the school run in the bright daylight with scabby eyebrows!

Botox, yes I've had it! Not one single person who didn't know noticed - which is great. But my friends who did know said it was good and I looked much fresher. Only downside is it only lasts about 3 months.

Veneers, no. I'd be too scared of one pinging off while I'm out somewhere! And they file down your own teeth as well. My husband has them but had awful teeth before, they look great. Could you look at Invisalign braces and teeth whitening. So many adults having braces these days.

MotherofA · 03/09/2017 22:20

My brows flaked slightly but not to the degree anyone on the school run would notice. You could only tell close up .
Mine are annual top ups . They fade off .
Search online or social media for Liz Dharmana she is based just outside of Liverpool.
That's the sort of knowledge I would expect someone who is tattooing my face to have . I did travel so far to see her but it was worth it . Obviously in London there are many spmu professionals who offer what she does but none close to me .

RJnomore1 · 03/09/2017 22:23

I've had veneers purely for damaged enamel not to straighten or anything. They are the only piece of cosmetic dentistry available on the NHS and cost me around £90 a tooth. The first ones I had done are now 13 years old and lasting amazingly.

RJnomore1 · 03/09/2017 22:23

And they look natural as I wanted them for the enamel and not to change tooth shape.

cheezy · 03/09/2017 22:28

I had my 11s done. Told no-one and no-one noticed. I could frown ever so slightly. I think it makes you overcompensate in other muscles. I did miss frowning and realised how much I rely on it as a form of expression. I don't think I'd have it again but I quite like it as a preventative measure.

jamie2 · 03/09/2017 22:52

I've had botox fairly regularly for my forehead and frown lines as well as fillers for my 11s as they were too deep for effective botox.
I have also had a non surgical face lift (threading) which has stopped my face sagging. These things only last a couple of years but that's ok. I had my teeth bleached about
two years ago and an planning to get them done again very soon. I know people may disapprove but it's my face and my money. Nobody knows I have anything done. I'm just told I look good for my age. My mother had a beautiful complexion and people just say I have inherited her genes.
