Threading upper lip?

teaandakitkat · 01/09/2017 16:53

Today when I was getting my eyebrows threaded the woman asked me if I wanted my upper lip threaded. I said no. But should I have said yes? I usually bleach it, I'm a bit nervous about the 'regrowth' if I get it threaded. What do you think?

Watching with interest, I'm getting to the stage that I really need this but I usually go to the woman in the shopping arcade for my eyebrows, and I think I'd die if anyone spotted me having my tash done!

Lillygreen · 01/09/2017 18:40

I did this and ouch, It was so painful! It felt like my skin was being burned off. It was much more painful than when I had my eyebrows threaded.
It was more painful than having my eyebrows microbladed too. (Permanent makeup)

Loraline · 01/09/2017 18:48

What was regrowth like?

Butterfly1975 · 01/09/2017 18:53

I found it unbelievably painful too! Wouldn't have it done again due to the pain and also as I felt it looked weird without any hair there. I've bleached it since then and just pluck out any particularly mahoosive dark hairs!

JustGettingStarted · 01/09/2017 18:57

OUCH!
It hurts like you wouldn't believe

Freshprincess · 01/09/2017 19:10

I had it done as well, and agree it's incredibly painful. I actually had my full face done, I'm not sure if the Indian lady doing it misunderstood me when I said 'just eyebrows' or was so horrified at my tache and goatee she just got on with it. My face was smooth like a baby's bottom.

I used waxing strips before can't say I noticed anything worse with regrowth.

I've got an epistick now which I used every couple of days.

cushioncovers · 01/09/2017 19:30

Threading hurt like a bitch for me. Waxing or epistick stings a bit but is better imo.

sammylady37 · 01/09/2017 19:31

Threading the upper lip is very painful! I just get it waxed now.

teaandakitkat · 01/09/2017 19:33

I'm not good with pain, I think I'll stick to bleaching.
Luckily I heard her ask the woman before me too, otherwise I might have been a bit offended!

It's painful but imo totally worth it lasts for ages and now only get it done every other time I get my eyebrows done.
I don't give a shit if anyone sees me in Superdrug:)

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 01/09/2017 19:35

I wonder why it hurts SO much. I could barely get through having my eyebrows done!

Fink · 01/09/2017 19:40

So painful. I get all my waxing and facial threading done at once (ok, technically one after the other but in the same trip) and have noticed for a while that upper lip threading is more painful than Hollywood wax.

But results are great. Only get it done every 6 weeks and don't notice any regrowth in between as it is fine and natural, not stubbly. My skin is quite dark anyway so hair doesn't show up that much unless you stare.

And the pain is short lived, it only takes a couple of minutes.

BarbaraBitchFace · 01/09/2017 19:41

I'm a recent upper lip convert. I used to shave then plucked, then epilated then bleached all for varying length an of time before I got fed up. Waxing is much better and quicker, threading is painful but is over in less than 2 minutes. I have some bastard black hairs that need treating every 2 weeks at the moment. I'm hoping they'll get the message that I'd like them to just piss off.

OttersPocket · 01/09/2017 20:42

I just started using one of those really, really cheap spring things to do my upper lip, it works fabulously well and although it was a bit sore at first I'm totally used to it now, and possibly slightly addicted to using it whilst watching tv!

This is the one I use: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B015IF72WK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1&tag=mumsnetforum-21

Polkadot1974 · 01/09/2017 21:48

I think the ladies are targeted to ask about the moustache. The woman who last did mine was very forceful even when I said no. "Are you sure? It's very hairy?"
Cheeky bitch

Colinfarrellsarse · 01/09/2017 22:27

I had it done once and I agree it hurts like you wouldn't believe! Ive since started laser hair removal and would highly recommend it, permanent solution and much less painful than threading

KimchiLaLa · 01/09/2017 22:57

I get it done monthly. It's fine. I would always recommend it - but I'm Indian and have been having it done for years and years...

CakeForBreakfast · 02/09/2017 10:36

I do it myself.

A couple of YouTube videos for instruction and plenty of practice. Wouldn't do it any other way now. It hurts less than waxing for me because I can do it slower and subsequent times hurts less. I don't like waxing because I use retinoid and also it misses short hairs.

It's also vair vair cheap!

TSSDNCOP · 02/09/2017 11:35

It's excruciating to me. Also I had a fat lip for several days. This was despite having had it done at an extremely professional outfit who've threaded my eyebrows for nearly 10 years.

LongWavyHair · 02/09/2017 11:42

I get my upper lip threaded and it is painful but I find the eyebrows even more painful. The regrowth is fine in the sense that the hairs don't come back thicker and darker. But they come back which is annoying because it means getting them threaded again and it hurts!

chipscheeseandcurrysauce · 02/09/2017 11:43

Don't do it!! It hurts really bad... plus threading doesn't work for me anyway!

Sarahsue1 · 02/09/2017 11:48

Threading hurts and I always ask them to take me into one of the little rooms which are actually for waxing because I'm not sitting in a swivel chair in a glass front threading parlour having my upper lip threaded for all to see Blushi have a wax pot at home which i use for emergencies if i've forgotten to do it but apparently waxing really thins the skin there and according to some of my friends we will all have wrinkley mouths if we don't thread instead. It also does hurt - definitely do NOT go and have it done the week before your period. Cube of ice for a minute or so after calms it down a bit.

Sarahsue1 · 02/09/2017 11:48

And regrowth is finer for me with threading

Juicylucy1800 · 02/09/2017 11:51

It's hideously painful. The hair had grown back within theee weeks or less. It wasn't any finer, but might be after a few goes.

I can't express how painful it is, the worse pain I've ever had.

bibbertybobbityboo · 02/09/2017 11:54

DO IT! It gets less painful each time, and finer regrowth, better than a bleach blond tache!
