Blue hair...help...how can I shift this before Wednesday?

Acacia123 · 30/08/2017 22:47

Against my better judgement I allowed daughter to dye her hair blue at beginning of hols with the proviso that she stopped dying it mid August so her hair would be back to normal for school start. She usually has blond fine hair.

Bottle says 6-10 washes to remove. We must have washed it 20 times plus used colour remover twice (Colour B4 and Colour B4 Extra). The dye is Colour Freedom. It is much lighter but still blue/green.

Tomorrow we are going to try Head & Shoulders mixed with washing up liquid, bicarbonate of soda and vitamin C tablets.

Anyone have any tips to help me shift this before Wednesday. School are very strict and she'll be looking at exclusion. I'm having sleepless nights over it...

(Also previously posted in Teenagers but now discovered this board).

If you're dying over a colour too get rid of it then you need to pick a colour that has tones from the opposite side of the colour wheel so for blue you need to choose a colour with orange/red tones, for green you need red/pink tones and so on

I can't believe schools are so strict now- especially in year 13!

whiteroseredrose · 01/09/2017 20:02

Any luck?

Acacia123 · 01/09/2017 20:55

Hmmm well, she is still grey/green/blue tinge but I think may be getting lighter. If we can get 9 washes in before Wednesday we may stand a chance.

I do understand and support school policy, I'm cross with manufacturer of the product especially as I see its not an isolated incident.

I'll try and post a picture tomorrow....

You might find that soaking her hair with conditioner and leaving it overnight will help. It'll also help to fix any damage or dryness from all the treatments.

Almostthere15 · 02/09/2017 08:54

I think you need to start putting moisture back in rather than just stripping now. All the washing will be drying things out. So I'd do an olive oil/coconut oil/deep conditioning mask for an hour or so this morning. If you put it in a bun on first day back I'm sure it'll be much less noticeable.

It's really frustrating and can't be helped. Unfortunately pure blond is a tough colour to go back to. After my friends dd had this problem we only allow dip dyes that will be trimmed off but so long as you're not sporting a full purple do I think most schools overlook it

marmiteloversunite · 02/09/2017 23:42

We are going through this too. My daughter has short hair. She had highlights bleached into the top and then purple put in by the hairdresser at the start of the holidays which faded really quickly. We used the colour b4 remover and it took all of the purple out. I then used colour freedom sea green about three weeks ago. Used colour b4 tonight and it is still green. Do I mess around and try a different stripper and then dark brown dye tomorrow or should I just wait and go back to the hairdresser on Monday? She has naturally dark brown hair with a red undertone.

NomDePlumeReloaded · 03/09/2017 17:33

Right. Today we have;

Done ketchup masque - left on for 30 mins then rinsed (revolting). Lifted a small amount.

Done head & shoulders masque - left on towel dried hair for 20 mins then rinsed off. Lifted again, a small amount.

Now we are dyeing a sensible colour using a L'Oreal Preference permanent dye close to her natural colour, 2 boxes required to fully saturate her hair. 15mins of development time remaining.

How are everyone else's smurf children?

AncoraAmarena · 03/09/2017 18:20

Oh good luck, Nom, I have everything crossed for a successful result!

We have a small amount of purple here, one strand in particular is very violet. I've given up trying to get it out now, the last lot of washing up liquid yesterday didn't yield any purple bubbles. I am hopeful that we should just about get away with it on Tuesday (famous last words....).

Hope everyone else has had success.

NomDePlumeReloaded · 03/09/2017 18:35

That sounds good Ancora. Hopefully the violet strand can be strategically hidden in a plait/pony.

Dye is off and her hair has gone from being an ombré of bright turquoise to being very reminiscent of MAC 'Club' eyeshadow when it catches the light. I've included a pic of said eyeshadow. Much more school friendly but will need another layer of the dye over it ahead of school term start. She won't get away with it, private school, strict uniform policy.

You need to see hairdresser and tone it down to dark blond or something

marmiteloversunite · 03/09/2017 20:32

I have decided to just go to the hairdressers tomorrow and beg for an appointment. Luckily my hairdresser is open on Mondays.

NomDePlumeReloaded · 05/09/2017 19:20

Update - Another layer of Preference dye (2 boxes). Applied with a tinting brush to get every hair. Applied in dry hair, not damp hair (box suggests damp). Left it on for 50 mins instead of the recommended 30. Rinsed out as instructions. Conditioned with a generous handful of the box conditioner and a squirt of castor oil for softness. Perfect colour coverage, no patchiness, even colour, no green/blue/weirdness. Hair feels nice and soft, not like Barbie hair.

Thank fuck. Back to school tomorrow.

marmiteloversunite · 05/09/2017 23:54

Well done Nom!

Hairdresser got my DD sorted. The funny thing was that she was booked up all day with teenagers that needed their hair to be sorted before school tomorrow. Lesson learnt here. No green/blue dye next Summer!

NomDePlumeReloaded · 06/09/2017 09:42

Yay for minimarmite

I'm not surprised that the hairdresser was chokka with fixings. Rainbow / unicorn hair has been so fashionable this year. We were bound to need a helping hand from the pros.

Indeed.

This is DD's final year at this school, so

Mumsnut · 06/09/2017 18:06

Any joy, OP?

Acacia123 · 06/09/2017 19:16

Just a quick update that I didn't get a chance to do last night....

So DD took herself off to the appointment with the hairdresser as I was at work. Her hair was still blue/green at this point.

Was a complete success, 100% blonde again ;-)

Phew. Apparently there were six other girls that went in with hair like hers and they went into isolation, so was a close call.

GhostCurry · 06/09/2017 20:21

Yay! Glad you got it sorted x

marmiteloversunite · 07/09/2017 07:01

Good news Acacia! I never thought it would be such an ordeal. In my day toners and shaders washed out easily but then again I never had a smurf head! Grin

Justchillaxing · 11/09/2017 01:27

We dyed over with Nice and easy black dye, its mainly black, hopefully black enough for school not to notice! When I was dying it I thought I'd covered it all, but afterwards found some strands I'd missed.
