Blue hair...help...how can I shift this before Wednesday?

Acacia123 · 30/08/2017 22:47

Against my better judgement I allowed daughter to dye her hair blue at beginning of hols with the proviso that she stopped dying it mid August so her hair would be back to normal for school start. She usually has blond fine hair.

Bottle says 6-10 washes to remove. We must have washed it 20 times plus used colour remover twice (Colour B4 and Colour B4 Extra). The dye is Colour Freedom. It is much lighter but still blue/green.

Tomorrow we are going to try Head & Shoulders mixed with washing up liquid, bicarbonate of soda and vitamin C tablets.

Anyone have any tips to help me shift this before Wednesday. School are very strict and she'll be looking at exclusion. I'm having sleepless nights over it...

(Also previously posted in Teenagers but now discovered this board).

@Acacia123 the purple dye we used on my daughter was Colour Freedom too.

The hairdresser said to soak her ends in Coca Cola yesterday. We did that last night and the purple has all but gone, other than one bloody streak. I am soooo relieved; we will work on the that streak (maybe with shaving cream as another poster suggested?) but I think/hope we'll get away with it when she starts secondary school on Tuesday.

Good luck!

Ahh coca cola....not tried that!

Superdrug stock Colour B4 which is a colour remover. I used it without much hope but it completely removed the L'Oreal red wash in outility colour and the semi underneath that. My greys even shone through again. Lots of conditioner needed though - my hair feels great now 4 weeks later.

LizTaylorsFabulousTurban · 01/09/2017 10:27

*wash in wash out (gah I wish I could a) drive my phone, and b) edit posts).

QuestionableMouse · 01/09/2017 10:31

It sounds like you're going to have worse than blue hair if you keep putting loads of chemical mixes on it. If her scalp is already sore I'd stop before you give her a chemical burn.

NomDePlumeReloaded · 01/09/2017 10:33

I also have a blue haired Wednesday returner. Dyed 2nd week of holidays with She has been doing washing up liquid masques a few times a day for the past week. We used Manic Panic Amplified dye, another semi perm, supposed to wash out in 14ish washes. Nope.

Her hair has faded a lot but is still recognisably blue/turquoise/green, ie not a natural colour. Not an acceptable colour for her school. Her hair grows incredibly quickly and is naturally red, so we'll have to dye it somewhere close to her natural colour and hope the red tones do their stuff.

Acacia123 · 01/09/2017 10:41

Nope...tried Colour B4 and Colour B4 Max already....

Wow so many people with same problem!

I was reffering to some other poster saying to send in a note saying it was an accident - not you OP.

We have the same problem. Purple Festival Hair - meant to wash out after 10 washes. Got away with it yesterday but has been bollocked today.

She has done the Fairy Liquid route - will try vosene next. She has ridiculously long hair and all this washing will be ruining it!

Acacia123 · 01/09/2017 11:10

Ursula - was it Colour Freedom? I am thinking of phoning manufacturer...

No idea - she had it done at the hairdressers. But to strip it she would have to go for a patch test then goodness knows what it will do to her hair.

Hopefully a lesson will have been learnt...........

MaryLennoxsScowl · 01/09/2017 11:33

By accident I mean she isn't deliberately flouting school rules, it was labelled as wash out - you both thought it would be long gone in time to meet the rules.

As for having the wrong uniform leads to ignoring rules about fighting etc - what rubbish! My school didn't require uniform although it did have one, you weren't allowed to wear blue jeans but people wore black ones, and it was no better or worse than when we got a new head teacher in my final year who had a bee in his bonnet about wearing uniform - in fact it was less appropriate because all us girls dressed like Britney Spears (it was that era). The rest of the teachers openly resented the time wasted telling people off for uniform and none of us were ever pulled up for wearing miniskirts and shirts open to your bra with tie pulled down.

I have two colleagues with pink or blue hair, perfectly acceptable in many workplaces.

I do appreciate this is not what you started the thread asking about, but I thought it was a legitimate option - didn't realise that schools were so rigid these days.

NomDePlumeReloaded · 01/09/2017 11:34

Yep, we have no time for patch test/hairdresser route either (away from home at the mo)

UrsulaPandress · 01/09/2017 11:36

I've had the email from school saying that an entry has been made in the Day Book Shock

AncoraAmarena · 01/09/2017 11:39

Oh crikey Ursula, what does that mean?!

UrsulaPandress · 01/09/2017 11:49

Who knows? Presumably that her card has been marked (metaphorically). They sent one girl home last year and she was not allowed to return until her hair had been stripped of all colour.

DD is 18 in a month. Just started Y13. Could do without the hassle but rules is rules............

and we pay for this

Acacia123 · 01/09/2017 11:50

I know that our school will put her in isolation. She will be mortified - she's never been in trouble before and this will knock her for six. She is quite timid (despite the desire for blue hair :-)

SheSaidNoFuckThat · 01/09/2017 11:52

Only way to remove green is by bleach (not good idea on kids), going darker or cutting it out. Anything green/blue stains the hair no matter how much they tell you it washes out.

Justchillaxing · 01/09/2017 11:53

Oh dear .. this is going to be me

QuestionableMouse · 01/09/2017 11:54

My town has a shop that sells wigs... If you're really desperate, might one be an idea?

Justchillaxing · 01/09/2017 11:54

Oops .. pressed send too soon!

This is going to be me next week! Dd used Manic Panic green dye.. she was going to dye over black for school. It's not going to work is it ... ?

Acacia123 · 01/09/2017 12:17

Thanks Mouse :-)

Oh god. How awful.

I also have personal experience of a dodgy dye job on blonde hair. It took months and lots of bleach before it returned to normal.

Vosene shampoo helped lift it so try that. But unfortunately the hair will be permanently stained.

SheSaidNoFuckThat · 01/09/2017 13:29

JustChillaxing black dye will cover it by may still have green tinged in the light

Justchillaxing · 01/09/2017 13:41

Thanks ... fingers crossed.
