Black tie gown for 15 year old - anyone seen anything suitable?

DD1 has been invited to a swish event that is mainly for adults. Dress code black tie and women will mainly be wearing long gowns.

She's looked in a few obvious 'prom dress' type stores, but the selection is all tight and low cut, or very short. She and I agree that she will dress like she's 15 and not like an adult.

Budget is max £100, ideally less.
She's 5'4'' and slim with an hour glass figure. She likes to emphasise her tiny waist and not draw attention to her larger bust and hips.

She hates pink and purple, and we've ruled or black as looking very adult.

She has some silver ballet pumps she'd like to wear with it. I can lend her a clutch and jewellery.

Anyone seen anything?

This website seems to cover a lot of frocks. Maybe if you browse through it you'll get some idea of the style you'd like and find a store near to you that sells it.

I'd try ASOS, their website has good search filters to narrow down results from thousands to the colours/styles etc she's interested in

Somerville · 30/08/2017 13:00

I didn't realise ASOS had so many filters, thanks. So, getting it down to midi/maxi dresses in her size and colours she approves of, in amongst the low-cut spaghetti straps there was this which would suit her.

I'm looking if there are any online stockists for those, rhubarb - I can't drive at the moment and she's claiming to have checked everywhere in local town.

I actually clicked on this thread by accident but that green dress you linked to is beautiful OP!

shamoffour · 30/08/2017 13:11

I was going to say asos too. If you can order a few and send back its free returns.

Rhubarbginisnotasin · 30/08/2017 13:14

Right we need to find loads available on line so you can both have a fashion parade up the hall and around the house.

The green one you linked to is lovely and gives us something to work with.

Grimmfebruary · 30/08/2017 13:16

Try Debenhams?

Grimmfebruary · 30/08/2017 13:17

Boohoo is good for filtering stuff down a day have some beautiful prom/full skirted chiffon dresses for about 35 quid.

Grimmfebruary · 30/08/2017 13:17

A day - 'and they' 😒

Rhubarbginisnotasin · 30/08/2017 13:31

I like this but granted the fact there's no sleeve at all so it may not cover the dress like a 15 year old aspect of things.

Rhubarbginisnotasin · 30/08/2017 13:35

Sorry to leave the search but my grandchildren are here now to swim. There were loads of lovely one's on Lipsy and I hope you manage to find something soon.

Somerville · 30/08/2017 13:35

Lots to order online would be perfect. Thanks for the help.
Off to play with boohoo filters.

www.phase-eight.com/fcp/product/phase-eight/sale-dresses/camilla-pleated-full-length-dress/203904351 - this one is fairly low cut but it's not strappy or short.

Phase 8 you can search sale by size, and then filter by dress types, and sort by price. I'm an hour glass shape and they often suit me.

I have also had long dresses from TK Maxx, perhaps unexpectedly.

RJnomore1 · 30/08/2017 13:47

Phase 8 isn't for 15 year olds.

House of Fraser is your friend op. Lots of the brands mentioned available easy online shopping and filters and easy returns.

Etymology23 · 30/08/2017 13:51

Ahh, I read that totally wrongly sorry! I read that all the low cut/short things were too much like she was 15 and not enough like an adult. Sincere apologies!

RJnomore1 · 30/08/2017 13:56

They're gorgeous dresses ety- I really want that second one myself now

Etymology23 · 30/08/2017 14:00

I know! Phase 8 is so dangerous- I used to attend a lot of black tie stuff so could justify multiple gowns, but even Christmas dinner at work is smart casual now so I have no justification to purchase any! :(

Somerville · 30/08/2017 14:08

I thought HoF would be much too expensive for her, like John Lewis. But their gowns are much cheaper - thanks RJ.

She might like this , which could be too low cut, but would be worth trying. Especially at that price!

This one with her ballet pumps.

Somerville · 30/08/2017 18:24

Thanks, she likes a few of these (though nothing that her aged mother likes OF COURSE) so we shall see.

My girls, who are parents themselves now, still love to reminisce about the days I'd make them bend down so I could see what was on show from the front and the back before they went out.

Northernmum100 · 30/08/2017 19:20

I second Quiz, Dd attended school sportsman dinner at 16 and Quiz came up with a perfect dress.
