Dermalogica

I recently went to a skin therapist as (in my late 20s) I've been experiencing some bad breakouts by my chin and along the bottom half of my face. She said she thought my breakouts were mainly hormonal/stress related. I walked away with nearly £200 worth of dermalogica products - yikes!

It's a pretty basic routine - precleanse oil, cleanser, exfoliating powder every other day and moisturiser which I guess is better then my previous routine of a vigorous wet wiping before bed.

Has anyone else found dermalogica to be any good? Is there any truth in the 'dairy causes breakouts' tale...? Anyone else got bad skin in their 20's - what's helped you?

@Flashinggreen I am super freckley as well - she did tell me I don't use enough sun cream and that some of my face showed some sun damage but not too bad. Apparently a lot of foundations have sun protection in them now too. She did the napping without me even realising really.

I think my sun damage is done 😢

I wear their moisturiser with spf 50 in now

I adore Dermalogica. I was prescribed it by a beauty therapist in my early 20s when I had lots of problems with breakouts, and am now using it into my 30s. It's made a massive difference to my skin. If I couldn't afford to buy all of it, I think I'd prioritise the Precleanse and a moisturiser, then just use a cheap cleanser with them.

At 61, I have been using the special cleansing gel for about 15 years and DS, 18, who is inclined to a few blemishes but has quite dry skin, also finds it good for him. I buy the 500ml size to live in the shower from lafantine.com for £42 and it lasts us about six months. Their Clean Start teen range is good for the zits but a bit harsh/drying for daily use otherwise. I like the precleanse oil to remove make up before Crealine micellar, but have just bought a Japanese alternative on economic grounds (x2 the quantity for 50% of the price) but have only used it once so the jury is still out. I don't really care for any of the moisturisers, and use The Ordinary Buffet or Hyaluronic serums followed by Clinique Moisture surge or the Beauty Pie anti-ageing moisturiser. The Ultra Calming spray is great after threading too.

I love the vitamin power recovery mask. Good on hangover or post flight skin.

It's really encouraging to hear so many rave reviews! I'd love to get to a point with my skin where I don't have to wear full foundation and powder every day as I suspect that doesn't help my breakouts. It can be a vicious cycle with makeup and spots it seems!

Has anyone tried the thermafoliant??

CoolCarrie · 31/08/2017 13:08

The pre cleanse oil is just to remove make up, so I wouldn't use it every day, unless you use make up every day of course!

MorrisZapp · 31/08/2017 13:13

I'm the opposite! My skin is so dry and flaky that I can't wear any foundation. I can't even manage tinted moisturiser, it makes me look like sandpaper.

I want a facial that will plump and smooth my skin so much that foundation will glide on. Is this possible?

I'd love a dermalogica facial but I'm put off by the expectation of buying products at the end. I'd buy them if I was blown away but I don't want any awkward moments.

mintmagnummm · 31/08/2017 16:14

You don't have to buy any products after a facial, just ask them for samples for you to try for a few days at home so you can decide then order cheaper online!

i used face wash and foundation in the last and liked both.
