I just find things shrink/everyone has the same thing but can't help browsing.

nina2b - Yes, yes, yes! That horrid smell puts me off the place. Cheap and nasty faux shoe leather / plastic.

LoveBeingAMum555 · 27/08/2017 22:40

Another fan of their cami tops for wearing under work tops. Have to size up though. Their opaque tights are OK and I love their gym stuff - let's face it you wear it to sweat in. Also love a particular type of their socks.

My adult son picked up some smart dark brown "suede" boots reduced to £8 last winter. They have lasted well, you probably do get an odd win like this but most of the impulse buys I have bought have ended up in the charity shop or bin!

FV45 · 27/08/2017 22:41

Kitted me and 2 DSs out for holiday for £75. Shorts, shirts, vests, flip flops, swim suits. Not the best quality but great for our 2 week hot holiday and for the few very warm weeks we get here. Never had a problem with shrinking.

onemorecakeplease · 27/08/2017 22:43

Yes for leggings and underwear.

Not for kids clothes as they don't wash well.

I buy summer dresses for me too for holidays and they are always nice.

NataliaOsipova · 27/08/2017 22:47

No. Don't live anywhere near one, though, so can't really comment knowledgeably!

Pinkandpurplehairedlady · 27/08/2017 22:48

I get my jeans from Primark. There stretch jeggings are great for work. I also buy a lot of t-shirts from there and love how they get softer and drape better the more you wash them. There knitwear is also good.

whyhastherumgone · 27/08/2017 22:53

I used to but everything I get from there lately shrinks, so it's not really saving me any money. Got a few maxi dresses that were lovely, one wash later and they were about five inches shorter!

Think i'm just going to stick to the pjs from now on...

MinesaPinot · 27/08/2017 22:56

Yes, but not as much as I used to.

Still buy their cami vests - bargain at £1.50 although like another poster I size up. Buy all my tights there, actually last longer than M & S. Cheap as chips ballet pumps and canvas flats. Like their homeware as well - one of my friends who works for M & S always recommends Primark Premium towels over the M & S ones, and also their bedding as well.

Oh, and I like their gymwear as well.

MiniTheMinx · 28/08/2017 07:34

I buy tights, cami tops, plain stretch t shirts. Oh and make up brushes. They have these dense short haired brushes that are perfect for applying foundation.
In the store most local to me they now do bedding. They have some that is 100% cotton, I'm tempted to try that. Does anyone know how it washes?

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 28/08/2017 07:38

I've only bought towels, and they've been brilliant. As good as any expensive ones.

Zoloh · 28/08/2017 07:42

I just cannot stand the queues. They make me feel my death!

Of course I parlay this into a great concern for workers rights and the environment. Wink

mumoffour1716154 · 28/08/2017 07:45

Yes - just for socks, underwear, men's shirts and jog pants. Maybe cardigans or some knitwear. Jewellery also is good. There bedding sets are great, buy it mainly from there as it doesn't bobble

ThursdayLastWeek · 28/08/2017 07:46

I buy stuff from there that I don't mind not wearing to death forever.
If I want to try a fashion, or a print or style or something it's a good place to experiment.

I also have a few HP bits from there that I like.

dudsville · 28/08/2017 07:47

I've never been in. The wasn't one near when I was growing up. I got my basics from m&s.

ThursdayLastWeek · 28/08/2017 07:48

That said, I have bought two autumnal shift style dresses recently - one Boden and the other Primark and the Boden one knocks the other out the park!

Argeles · 28/08/2017 07:49

Yes, I buy all kinds of things from there. I haven't been in there for nearly 3 months now though, as whenever I go past, they have so many sale rails and I know I'd go mad and buy things I don't need.

I've had some clothes from Primark for years, including a beige and black lace occasion wear coat that I've had for 12 years. I think it was £7 on a sale rail. It's still in great condition, and so many people have asked if it's from Coast!

The problem I have with Primark is the tiny and vastly inaccurate sizing on most items. I often buy at least one size larger, but sometimes I buy 2 sizes larger - especially in knickers.

Liiinoo · 28/08/2017 07:58

I agree a lot of it is tat but if you are discerning there are great bargains to be had.
The cotton/Lycra t shirts and camisole vests are great quality and last for years. I love the cottton jersey pjs and the seamless Bridget Jones style pants are my favourites. They all wash beautifully.
I tend to buy quite plain basics there but occasionally you can find a great statement piece. I have a flowered sequinned tote bag (sounds hideous doesn't it?) I bought there about 10 years ago that I take on holiday when I want something roomy but dressy. I have two BEAUTIFUL longish, full skirts (again over 10 years old) that I wear for formal functions that always get compliments.

Yogagirl123 · 28/08/2017 08:01

I buy t-shirts for DS, pants etc I brought a top for me that I usually wear to yoga, I love it, really comfy and washes really well. Never had problems with shrinking, twisted seems etc. Can't be beaten for value. I agree sizing can be odd at times!

WillowWeeping · 28/08/2017 08:18

I buy the cami tops which I think are better than pretty much anywhere and the odd top - if you can bear the jumble sale style I think there are some great pieces to be had.

I'm not a fan of "disposable fashion" and usually favour high end high st - my wardrobe is almost exclusively Jigsaw, Whistles, Ted Baker, Reiss, All Saints etc but this year I've bought and chucked out three jigsaw tops that have fallen apart after only a couple of wears. At £120+ a go that makes primark worth a go.

Other than the cami's I steer clear of anything with Lycra (gym kit/leggings/knickers/pjs) as I find the fabric thin.

MorrisZapp · 28/08/2017 08:24

We've got a massive, comparatively glamorous Primark here in Edinburgh. I was raging though to see the ladies underwear section full of Harry Potter stuff and none to be found in the kids bit, what's that about?

I buy my plastic coffee cups from there, I get envy everywhere I go.

CremeDeSudo · 28/08/2017 08:28

Hate Primark. It's awful. Occasionally I'll buy PJs from there or some stuff for DS. Stuff where it doesn't matter if it lasts. I found it really frustrating that on the rare occasion I found something I loved, it didn't last 5 minutes. Good for fancy dress stuff on the other hand. Not sure that's in it's business plan though!

Queenofthedrivensnow · 28/08/2017 09:09

Yes but not for clothes. Things like hair brushes - kids hair accessories, inflatables! Wash bags and so on hell
Yes! Clothes no chance they fall to bits!

BeauMirchoff · 28/08/2017 09:55

I buy these tops and they're brill! Wash and tumble dry very well!
The quality of Primark clothes is much better now than what it used to be 10 years ago! Wink

Well, the first book came put 20 years ago, so anyone who read it then is now an adult. Hence the majority of Harry Potter fans are adults. That's what it's about.

JohnCheese · 28/08/2017 11:01

God I hate the place. However, my favorite pair of PJs are from there. They're v old now tho. And I am finding it harder and harder to find 100% cotton PJs there anymore. I have seen a few but they're in a genuinely horrible cotton. Actually it's hard to find decent cotton PJs at any price but that's a different thread.

I don't buy clothes there, not even kids. I think the quality is appalling. But I recently found some trainer-liner/sock things, high cotton content, no dig-in band, they're fantastic. Way better than any other chain.

I buy the kids converse type shoes cos they're growing at a rate of knots and even the Bank of England couldn't afford to keep up with the new converse requirement. I do wonder how they can produce them so cheaply tho.
