I want nice legs!

ProjectGainsborough · 24/08/2017 11:45

I'm on holiday and keep seeing people with lovely, even toned gleaming legs.

My legs are a disaster zone: cellulite, my feet tan and my calves don't, I have weird bulbous veins ... the list goes on.

What can I do to have nice legs? I'm prepared to put some effort in here!

You need some Sally Hansen air brush legs spray - it's the business!

foodiefil · 24/08/2017 12:39

Sally Hansen yes.

Longer term - do you exercise? Exfoliate? Drink water? I noticed a big difference in my legs when I started gymming it again

ElspethFlashman · 24/08/2017 12:41

Sally Hansen and get your veins checked. If they're varicose you can get them done under local, chatting away the whole time.

ProjectGainsborough · 24/08/2017 13:18

Is this the secret then? All these people with lovely legs are walking around with Sally Hansen on? Wouldn't it come off at the beach?

No, I am a lazy git when it comes to exercise. But am determined that my future has shorts in it, so will have to change. Are there any exercises that are good for legs?

Don't think the veins are varicose. Just a bit bulgy!

I have lots of spider veins. However after 18 months of pilates my legs are a better shape so this summer i have purchased some shorts!

Hairq · 24/08/2017 13:31

I don't understand how most peoples legs have an even skin tone. Mine are really pale with loads of scars from ingrowing hairs etc on them, not to mention the cellulite from knee to thigh.

ElspethFlashman · 24/08/2017 13:36

(Bulgy veins ARE varicose a lot of the time!)

They're probably wearing fake tan at the beach as that wears off gradually. SH is just makeup, though it's transfer proof. Comes off with a bit of shower gel.

I think the "secret" is actual dedication to doing it whereas most of us can't really be arsed. Though SH really only takes minutes. You need to spray it onto a tanning mit though, if you spray it directly onto your legs it's very messy. A lot of people SH their arms and chest as well.

Exercise! Gets the circulation going and keeps legs toned. Squats, lunges, running....
Dry brushing, lots of water and fake tan also helps..

Walk, walk, walk! A 45-60min brisk walk 4/5 times a week will transform yr legs, it has mine.

I've always envied other people's legs on holiday, but last month it was me with the toned legs, I've never worn such short shorts before and it all done to walking!!!

oldbirdy · 24/08/2017 15:44

You might, like me, be one of the lucky 10 percent who has been blessed with fat legs which are immune to exercise or weight loss. Lipoedema. Have a Google.

Desperad0 · 24/08/2017 15:57

Microsclerotherapy - Unsightly veins can be treated by injecting a solution into the veins which causes the walls of the vein to stick together. Over a short period of time these veins gradually disappear. also moisturise every day, plus plenty of water and exercise

WhooooAmI24601 · 24/08/2017 16:01

Take up running if you can. I'm a sturdy 12 so absolutely not thin but my legs are cracking. I run at least 3 times a week, do yoga at least twice a week and swim twice a week. All of them make a contribution but running is my number one thing for toned legs. Plus drinking endless water will sort out the cellulite to a point.

Also, try korean italy towels when you have a bath. They're tiny little green things, soak for twenty minutes then scrub your legs like you hate them with the towel. After a month or two of doing it weekly your legs will be flawless with no uneven texture.

foodiefil · 24/08/2017 17:02

You'd be amazed at what make up people are wearing at the beach. SH is quite good at staying on actually. Rubs in quite easily too but do it over an old towel! The spray does shoot off.

But yeah they'll probably have spent a long while in the gym in the run up to their hol!

ProjectGainsborough · 24/08/2017 21:23

Next year, that WILL be me!

So, running, lunges etc and scrub like a maniac then. Also investigate veins to see if they're varicose. I can do that Smile

I have terrible varicose veins Sad. Has anyone had theirs done and happy to share what it cost? Have looked into it but it seems to cost thousands.

ZiggyForever · 24/08/2017 21:28

I'm going to chip in and say I felt EXACTLY the same as you about my legs until I realised that what we see isn't what other people see - I really think we look at ourselves under a microscope, but at others through rose-tinted lenses.

I'm a ginger and thought I had corned-beef legs, until I stopped caring and saw photos of myself in groups. It was nowhere near as bad as I thought.

Now I've rose-tinted my microscope :-)

So true that!

We are self critical.

LoveBeingAMum555 · 24/08/2017 23:21

I feel your pain. I am a size 8, I drink water, run, cycle and go to the gym but my legs look 10 years older than the rest of me. My knees are lumpy, I have varicose veins and my legs never tan nicely.

Oh for woolly tights. ....

ElspethFlashman · 25/08/2017 09:32

Rainbow I got it done public so it was free. My GP referred me but there was a waiting list and I had to wait a good while. I didn't mind too much. Anyway I got them done recently. Basically they make a nick in your skin and pull out the bulbous part and cut it out. All you're left with are nicks that don't need stitches even, just steri strips and dressings over them. You have to wear a surgical stocking day and night for one week, and then you have a shower and wash all the manky dressings off, then put on another stocking and wear it day only for the second week. Lots of bruising which fades after the second week. But zero pain, honestly. The worst thing was the bloody stocking which was so uncomfortable to sleep in!

I was told if I opted for general anaesthetic the wait would be longer, FYI. But tbh I honestly can't see why you would bother with general unless you were very anxious. You can't see or feel anything. I was in and out in about two hours!

RainbowBriteRules · 25/08/2017 09:40

Oh wow! That sounds great. GP won't refer me (I get it, NHS budgets) but I can't imagine ever having the money for private :(

Helloyouitsme · 25/08/2017 09:40

Some people have naturally lovely legs - long, slim, tanned. I could slightly improve mine with a bit of effort eg exercise but I would never have long legs whatever I tried.

It's all in the fake tan, aside from the exercise. You can keep them glossy by exfoliating regularly and using body lotion or oil with a bit of shimmer in it.

This has been my chosen specialist subject for 30 years....I don't have much in the cleavage area so the legs have had to do the heavy lifting, so to speak, when I want to look glam!
