I've just found a skirt that is 18 years old! The skirt will probably never fit me again but it's a classic woollen mini and I can't bear to through it out.

I've got some going out shoes that are bound to be the same age too.

I have a wrangler denim jacket that I was gifted (by my Mum's friend) when I was 14 - so 19 years ago. She had owned the jacket since she was a teenager in the 70's. So it's around 40 years old now and it still looks great.

BuzzKillington · 15/08/2017 19:43

Bikinis - I keep them for as long as I can and before they disintegrate. I have some that are at least 10 years old. I also have a lovely leather biker jacket that's 5 years old and gets better with age.

I don't tend to keep clothes beyond about 4 years. I am very prone to a ruthless 'chuck everything out' session.

My wedding dress is still in existence at my parents' - 22 years old.

spankhurst · 15/08/2017 19:46

A green Marks jumper, about 18 years old, is the oldest thing I bought new.
I have a couple of vintage tops and a scarf from the 60s.

NC4now · 15/08/2017 19:50

I've got the top I wore out clubbing on my 21st. I'm 40 now.

OCSockOrphanage · 15/08/2017 20:26

I have vintage dresses made for my great aunt from the 1940s that I am keeping to be the template for the mother of groom dress I may need in 10 years, and lots of coats from the same aunt. Things I have bought for myself still in regular wear tend to go back to my early serious professional days in the mid 1980s. Most have gone but there's a suit jacket that I still bring out (Perry Ellis, pre Marc Jacob for the historians) and some early Nicole Farhi before she launched in her own name. And one jacket, no label, that regularly gets fashion-y people salivating. It's imperfect manufacture, but it is the greatest shape and textures.

PNGirl · 15/08/2017 20:54

I have a Burberry trench from the 80s but I don't wear it as it has a stain that didn't come out at thr dry cleaner.

Beyond that an 8 year old leather jacket and even that has seriously dated. I'm not really old enough at 32 to have anything much from before 2000 when I got my first job.

Mbear · 15/08/2017 21:11

I have a ruched wool jigsaw top that is quite sheer that is about 20 yrs old now, think it still fits!
I also have a red embroider whistles skirt which I've had over 12 yrs - I went to sell it on eBay recently, but I then realised I wanted to keep it (I had worn it to my brothers funeral) anyway as someone had bid on it, I made dh bid and he won! So skirt stayed with me Blush

PrancerForHoney · 15/08/2017 23:29

My Father's flight jacket from when he was in Vietnam.

bbpp · 15/08/2017 23:36

My bridesmaid dress from my mothers wedding, I was 8. I do have a picture of a friend, with said dress just squeezing over her head, arms stuck out in various directions and a huge grin on her face taken about 6 years ago Smile

TheFaerieQueene · 15/08/2017 23:48

I've got a 20 something year old cropped denim jacket from French connection. It looks as good as new. I was wearing it at the weekend. I'm not sure their clothes are as good quality now.

TheFaerieQueene · 15/08/2017 23:51

My DH's aunt, who sadly died nearly two years ago aged 92, visited for lunch with us about 5 years ago, in her son's vintage open top car, wearing her father's leather jacket. It must have been well over 100 years old. She was beautiful, elegant and wonderful.

MsJuniper · 16/08/2017 00:07

I "borrowed" a loose blue cotton blouse from my friend in 1995 which is still in my wardrobe.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 16/08/2017 01:39

A grey nightdress that I bought for my nan. The Christmas before she passed 16 years ago.
There's still not a break in it. If I didn't know any better and someone told me it was new. I'd believe them

GwenStaceyRocks · 16/08/2017 01:45

Vintage - a 1930's full length column dress with beaded neckline
Modern - the black dress I wore at my graduation over 20 years ago.

Timefortea99 · 16/08/2017 05:05

A Top Shop cream fine corduroy shirt. Purchased approximately 30 years ago. Just lost some weight. Fits again. Does not look it's age, unlike me. About 10 years ago I wore it a few times at another lower weight and lots of people asked me where they could buy it. Somebody wanted to buy it off me. I love it - can wear it as a shirt or jacket.

Eragonsegg · 16/08/2017 06:37

I have a skirt from about 1985...it still has the tag on. My dm bought me it and I never dared tell her I hated it. Since she passed away I have attached emotional value to it! It's still bloody awful tho

Emboo19 · 16/08/2017 07:42

I've got a pair of Levi cut offs, that belonged to my mum before I was born, so 20 years ago. She bought them from a charity shop, so no idea how old they actually are.

squiz81 · 16/08/2017 07:53

Ive got a dress and a couple of skirts that I still wear and I bought them when I was 18 and I'm 36 now. Somehow I'm thinner now than I was then (probably due to drinking less!)

Theresnonamesleft · 16/08/2017 08:01

Couple of pair of trousers, suit and a blouse that I bought 23 years ago.
Couldn't fit in them for years but I am stubborn and determined to wear them again.
Dd is amazed how small clothes were then.

ClawsForThought · 16/08/2017 11:53

A Top Shop paisley patterned waistcoat from 1989 why I've still got this is anyone's guess and one of my mum's fringed belts from circa 1970

TriJo · 16/08/2017 13:39

There's a pair of old O'Neills tracksuit bottoms in my wardrobe that I got at the start of Transition Year... in 1999.

cakeymakey · 16/08/2017 13:52

A black chiffon oasis dress from 1994 - 24 years old and still a classic shape, lovely scooped neck, fitted waist and a swirly skirt perfect for dancing. I've worn it for black tie do's, funerals and parties. Got to be the best buy ever.......

HellYeh · 16/08/2017 21:05

Wow! So many lovely replies!

My skirt is a bit Meh in comparison to some of your items of clothing. My skirt doesn't fit me anymore, maybe one day.....

passtheharibo · 16/08/2017 21:33

My oldest item is a coat which is only about 15 years old.

Is anyone else wishing they had stockpiled the kind of quality that was routinely available on the high street as late as the early 90s? They don't make em like they used to!

Floisme · 17/08/2017 07:14

Yes, this thread has reminded me of quite a few things that would just need a bit of tweaking to be spot on right now.

I've always kept my vintage clothes (40s and before) but I moved house a lot in the 80s-mid 90s and left some gems behind along the way. The memory of them is partly why I hang onto clothes now although as you say, I can't imagine most of the stuff I buy these days being in such good nick in 20 years. (But then come to that, I may not be either.)
