pigeondujour · 10/08/2017 09:53

I couldn't wear that out because it's too themey but I bet it'd look amazing on.

CremeDeSudo · 10/08/2017 09:55

I love that they think so much of it that they've made it in another colour too

It so is! I saw a woman trying on a red and white striped top in H&M yesterday, had to stop myself saying to her it would be perfect for a pirate dressing up party! Was v relieved when she didn't buy it.

I found another shocker!
aSleepyPrincess · 10/08/2017 09:58

I think it is beautiful Blush Not entirely sure which occasion or location you could wear it to though!

whifflesqueak · 10/08/2017 10:02

I love it! I'm now dreaming of throwing an Oktoberfest party...

RatherBeRiding · 10/08/2017 10:03

I think it's quite nice but where the hell would you wear it? Can't imagine turning up to work in it. Or going out for dinner in it. Or clubbing. Or shopping. Or the races. Or anywhere really........ Confused

SarahJonesS · 10/08/2017 10:04

it is pretty but surely the only place you can wear it to is an Oktoberfest event

UserThenLotsOfNumbers · 10/08/2017 10:06

Love it.
I can think of no better outfit to eat sausages and drink beer in.

ibbleobbleblackbubble · 10/08/2017 10:07

It's like some sort of German beer festival type garb

lalaloopyhead · 10/08/2017 10:07

I love it! Though agree price tag is rather (extremely) steep for what I would consider a novelty item.

Hoppinggreen · 10/08/2017 10:08

DH is German and DD has a few of these, they are absolutely beautiful.
She is too old for them now but used to wear them for family parties and for evenings out in Germany. I've got one too but I've only worn it once ( DH finds it rather sexy though). AND He has a pair of Lederhosen!!!

BananaFrenchToast · 10/08/2017 10:35

Meh it's a drindl. Looks unusual to our eyes but very popular in Austria for example. They would be worn to weddings/parties/festivals but actually traditional dress is not that unusual for younger people out and about in some of the cities.

It's not been made for the British market.

florascotianew · 10/08/2017 10:48

Just as Banana says - perfectly normal traditional dress in Austria. It would mostly be worn on the same sort of occasions as (eg) a kilt is worn in Scotland, and has the similar sort of cultural/heritage vibe. I've seen simpler versions worn everyday by young and old, looking rather like a pinafore dress. Can be very flattering.

herethereandeverywhere · 10/08/2017 10:53

I'm currently living in Bavaria - the Dirndl is 'Tracht' which is traditional dress (lederhosen being the male equivalent). Bavarians all own Tracht and wear it regularly, particularly for nights out and at festivals. Oktoberfest is next month and it's getting to Peak Tracht. All the shops here sell them, H&M, C&A, Hallhuber, I think Tommy Hilfiger does a range.

Esprit is a big shop here so that will be their autumn Tracht range. £125 is actually at the cheap end of the scale. Mine was £599 for the dress plus a further £100 for the blouse. My husbands outfit (lederhosen/short/waistcoat/shoes/socks) was about £1000.

herethereandeverywhere · 10/08/2017 10:54

I meant to say it's just like the Scots wearing kilts, the Bavarians wear Tracht.

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 10/08/2017 10:58

I love the second colour. I've seen people wear them to weddings as traditional dress and recently seen a photo of a friend of a friend in one to a wedding and her husband wore a kilt. They had both wore each other's traditional dress and they looked brilliant.

AuntieStella · 10/08/2017 11:02

I thought it would be perfect - in the UK market - for a Sound Of Music party.

They may as well make it available here if it's a pan-European company.

But yes, in UK terms, it's more fancy dress than fashion.

And there does seem to be a lot of gingham in the shops right now. Which reminds me of a ballet school uniform skirt I had in the early 1970s. So I was getting all wistful, whilst DD was telling me she thought they were all gross.

herethereandeverywhere · 10/08/2017 11:08

Lodenfrey is lovely to look at if you like browsing pretty dirndl (mine's from here - in the shop you get a glass of fizz and an attentive lady who insists you must wear a wonderbra and the kids play on a slide inbuilt beside the staircase or on the mini carousel, it's like being in a movie...)

pretty dirndl

MyWhatICallNameChange · 10/08/2017 11:11

I think it's really pretty, though not something I would wear because I don't look like that model.

I have a friend who wears dirndls for everyday wear, she always looks lovely.

aSleepyPrincess · 10/08/2017 11:34

herethereandeverywhere They are stunning, wish I was somewhere I could wear one!

EnidButton · 10/08/2017 13:56

HereThere God they're beautiful! Can't think of a single occasion I'll ever be at where I could wear one but really want one.

JaneJeffer · 10/08/2017 14:01

I don't have the jugs for that outfit Wink

I found another shocker!
TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 10/08/2017 14:20

Elfride I love that shirt, thanks for sharing it.

I think dirndls can be gorgeous, would be awesome to wear one but would totally feel like fancy dress!
