I just bought this - a brand new White Company white linen skirt. I was so excited I had to share. What are your best charity shop bargains mumsnetters?

My best is a Burberry Men's Trench Coat, made in England and never worn. Has the detachable lining and was £10!

SixtiesChildofWild8lueSkies · 04/08/2017 18:21

A piece of ceramic bought for a couple of pounds and later valued in the hundreds!

Floisme · 04/08/2017 18:32

I used to always moan about our charity shops but this last year, I've been a lot more organised and I have to eat humble pie and admit, it's paid off handsomely.

So for sheer number of wears, it has to be my H&M leather jacket and my Kettlewell ruched skirt. But for bragging rights, it's a toss up between my Margaret Howell shirt and my Rick Owens top (even if it does look more like a gilet from Joules).

Dowser · 04/08/2017 18:33

You want n the prize sixties child.

Not even going o mention Hobbs boots for a tenner.

Dowser · 04/08/2017 18:33

Rollypoly100 · 04/08/2017 20:18

I bought a Vivienne Westwood white shirt for £5 from Notting Hill Housing Trust shop in Tooting High Street. Don't live there anymore but I miss that shop.

AnnabelleLecter · 04/08/2017 20:28

Hobbs 100% wool blazer £10 worn almost constantly for work. Cost per wear must be pennies.

SunshineOutdoors · 04/08/2017 20:33

Am currently wearing a gorgeous whistles top I got for four quid.

Can I tell you about the latest evolution in charity shops that I encountered the other day. Shops are obviously not getting the donations they used to (excepting the above bargainsGrin) because people are e-baying their best stuff. But e-bay is such a pain these days with awkward buyers raising grievances, never mind the effort of parcelling and trotting down to the Post Office.
So someone has come up with a win-win: a dress agency within a charity shop. Goods (quality items) are displayed for four weeks and the sale proceeds are split 50/50 between the donator and the shop, or the item is reurned to the donator.
It's the way forward! you are now going to tell me that your local shop has been doing this for years

Lanaorana2 · 04/08/2017 20:48

Diesel Black Gold down jacket, black, fiver, Sally Army.

Unworn - when I looked it up for cleaning instructions (fussy) not only do they cost 1k but it was machine wash an' all. Like wearing lovely swanky duvet.

Northernmum100 · 04/08/2017 21:04

Mint Velvet maxi dress for 4.99 is this week's best buy and a few weeks ago a Hobbs black wool dress for the same, Preen dress still with the tags for 3.99. I do love a good rummageSmile

motherinferior · 04/08/2017 21:15

I am mostly dressed out of charity shops and one of the few things reconciling me to this winter is the virtually new red Windsmoor pure wool coat I picked up for six quid in the Uttoxeter Red Cross last month. I stuffed it into my weekend case and came home triumphant!

PoppyPopcorn · 04/08/2017 21:18

I'm a charity shop volunteeer and have picked up some absolute gems.

Best buys recently were a 100% wool coat from Hobbs, probably a couple of seasons old but still with tags on and SO warm and SO lovely and have had loads of compliments wearing it. £15.

Also a pair of brand new Doc Marten chelsea boots perfect for the winter, £6.

chapthedoor · 04/08/2017 21:24

Adidas Stan Smiths £1

ozymandiusking · 04/08/2017 21:24

A brand new never worn pair of bottega Venata leather shoes, still in the box for £5. They are absolutely gorgeous and that brand of shoe usually costs hundreds of pounds a pair. 👠 👠

SirNiallDementia · 04/08/2017 21:32

Oh and a Paul Smith sweatshirt for DS for 50p. In the same West London charity shop as the shoes!

LoadsaBlusher · 04/08/2017 22:17

charlievictor9 · 04/08/2017 22:18

Vintage 1960s Burberry trench for a fiver

SellMySoulForMoreSleep · 04/08/2017 22:25

Blimey! Puts my £8.50 skirt to shame! I can't remember the last time I saw anything in a charity shop for a pound but I do mostly go to ones in London. I love a good rummage too. One of my best buys was £3 for children's wetsuits. This particular shop happened to have them in both my DC's sizes and were doing BOGOF on all kids stuff so I got 2 for £3. Lasted 2 summers.

Most of my clothes are from charity shops. You need to rummage but I often find brands like Boden, Toast, fatface, Seasalt, Diesel, Hobbs, Jigsaw for 99p.

Minster2012 · 04/08/2017 22:40

Le Cruseut very large cream dutch oven £3, not a stain on it, I nearly threw myself on it! Grin

LoadsaBlusher · 04/08/2017 22:52

We have a £1 bargain shop in our little local town
There is also a great charity clearance store near me where they do rummage bins and price 4 items for a £1
Few treasures mixed in with a lot of tat but I like the thrill of finding a gem
Car boot sales are great for clothes and shoes too
