Dress for my daughter for weddings. How to wear it?

Jules1987 · 29/07/2017 08:01

So, this is a baby related fashion dilemma Grin

I'm going to buy this dress for my daughter to wear to a couple of weddings.

She's 14 months. I think I'd like her to wear some thin, ivory tights and ivory shoes. Would that work with this dress or would it need to be socks?

Thanks

very cute.
two warnings though

  1. she looks a bit like a bridesmaid, you need to be sure she isn't similar to the bridesmaids. In fatc unless it is your brother/best friend getting married, this is quite OTT for a baby to wear to a wedding
  2. when my neice wore a dress like that at a similar age, as a bridesmaid she foudn it really uncomfortable, the underskirt was tickly and we ended up having to take it off half way through the day.

if the weddings are in the summer, tights will be too hot, but they might stop the underskirt tickling

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 29/07/2017 08:13

I agree with Steppemum. I would make sure there are no flower girls in similar dresses.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 29/07/2017 08:14

That's too bridesmaidy.

Dizzywhore · 29/07/2017 08:17

Beautiful but as the others said its to much like a flower girl dress. Enjoy the weddings x

LostAllTheWords · 29/07/2017 08:18

Agree that it's definitely too bridesmaidey and ott unless you're part of the wedding party. It also looks like it could be really uncomfortable and scratchy on little skin.

Is there an alternative you could find in a softer material? Maybe without all the underskirts?

Also, as gorgeous as white looks on little girls it's not going to stay looking like that. If you do get this dress (and I do think ivory tights and shoes would look lovely btw) I'd say have a couple of spare outfits with you for when she inevitably ends up covered in crap within 5 minutes.

Fairylea · 29/07/2017 08:18

I agree with the others, sorry. That looks like a bridesmaids dress. I'd go for something very colourful instead.

But in answer to your question I'd go for socks and ivory shoes.

SpartacusSaiman · 29/07/2017 08:18

I agree with pp.

Its a gorgeous dress.

But could be too bridesmaids. Also quite uncomfortable after a while. My dd is 13 so no longer wears these sort of clothes.

But if she was wearing somerhing this when little i would take a more comfortable outfit and change her if she showed signs of getting fed up with it.

I did the same when i took ds to a wedding when he was young. More formal outfit and comfy changes of clothes.

Tights etc depend on weather.

KeiraTwiceKnightley · 29/07/2017 08:18

She's going to fall over in that! Something shorter way better for a toddler/crawler.

Roystonv · 29/07/2017 08:19

It's a no from me, too bridesmaidy/ott, it looks scratchy and after a couple of hours will be creased and getting grubby. Go more traditional/classic, cotton, flowered, white collar, white socks etc.

Jules1987 · 29/07/2017 08:24

Its the groom's niece, and my other daughter is flower girl so I just want her to be in something where she'll not look out of place in picture with my other daughter who is wearing a floor length dress. She's definitely not the same colour as the bridesmaids. The other wedding, my daughter is also flower girl and my husband is best man. Hence the reason I want something quite special for my youngest.

Flisspaps · 29/07/2017 08:26

I still think it's too bridesmaidy, and she's not in the actual party at either of the weddings.

LIZS · 29/07/2017 08:27

I'd be surprised if it lasts for a second wearing without tears and snags. Is it washable? Will she need to nap whike wearing it? A tulle underskirt could be prickly and catch on tights or bare legs. Personally I'd go for something softer in a nice fabric.

TheMogget · 29/07/2017 08:28

Too much I think.
What about something like this... link

Awww I'm sad about all the negative feedbac Sad It's in the sale and I know it would really suit her. But I'll take your points on board.

OP posts:
DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 29/07/2017 08:30

What The Mogget posted is far more suitable. Your older dd is a flower girl, your little one isn't so I wouldn't dress her like one as she'll end up looking mis matched.

Jules1987 · 29/07/2017 08:31

themogget that's not formal enough for these particular weddings as both are going to be quite fancy affairs.

Longer dresses are a nightmare on my 14 month old, they get stuck under her knees when she tries to stand up.

What about this

steppemum · 29/07/2017 08:42

I see your point, especially as your other duaghter is a flower girl, but it looks as if you wanted your younger one included in the wedding party and she wasn't so you bought her a bridesmaid type dress.

Cannot imagine a wedding where Moggets dress would be underdressed for a 14 month old!

Jules1987 · 29/07/2017 08:47

I always dress my daughters quite fancy I suppose in every day life. Nothing crazy OTT but lots of pretty dresses. I just feel like people see my girls wear dresses like that all the time and I know both weddings are quite formal. I've always dressed them in monsoon dresses for weddings in the past and I don't see this as being any more fancy than those. They've never been anything other than complemented in the past.

OP posts:
Flisspaps · 29/07/2017 08:47

Both of the alternative suggestions are perfectly acceptable for formal weddings! Confused

Jules1987 · 29/07/2017 08:48

And I have family members who really speak their minds.

OP posts:
Jules1987 · 29/07/2017 08:49

Like I said Flisspaps, they wear dresses like that all the time.

I like the original dress op. Go for it

NothinButaGoodtime · 29/07/2017 08:50

Go for it OP. It's gorgeous
X

Jules1987 · 29/07/2017 08:51

I'm so shocked by the negativity ickle, I've seen loads of kids dressed like that for weddings. Here's the dress not on a model, if that changes anyone's view.
