Has anyone ever used creme de la mer? Worth it?

I've never spent tonnes on skincare but am definitely more invested now in my late 30s. If always been Confused at the price of CDLM but, having just spent £70 on another pot of Charlotte Tilbury Matic Cream (because it has made a visible diffference to my skin), I feel I'm now in that expensive skincare bracket.
So therefore I was wondering if this really is the holy grail in skincare and worth the extra ££ seeing as I'm spending a fortune already...
Has anyone used it? Views?

I've got the full set - face wash, toner, moisturiser, the lot. I switched to Estée Lauder a year ago when I couldn't justify the ££ and regretted it. When I started warming it prior to application, unnoticed better results. I know it's expensive but it's worth it imo.

I also swear by 'tots repair' serum by Estée Lauder (I think that's what it's called, it's in a brown bottle and you apply it using a dropper).

TipsNotHacks · 28/07/2017 23:51

Total repair 😂

Gah81 · 29/07/2017 07:10

It's OK but wouldn't buy again. If you are looking to spend money and invest in your skin, the only thing that has made a real difference to my skin is seeing a good dermatologist.

OooohHorlicks · 29/07/2017 07:23

The Aldi Caviar cream is indeed just as good on my skin, has an spf and makes me happy because it's cheap!

BusterGonad · 29/07/2017 07:42

Moved blue has almost the same ingredients except the seaweed stuff apparently. Look on the Daily Mail Nivea vs Creme De La Mer.

BusterGonad · 29/07/2017 07:42

Nivea blue I mean

Herefornow1 · 29/07/2017 10:23

Yes
Used up the full range twice and has honestly do not think it was worth it.
Work out what your skin concerns are and then research products accordingly - they don't have to come from the same range.
There are some very knowledgeable posters on S&B who could help and recommend and lots of threads to look up specific concerns, products & routines.

TipsNotHacks · 29/07/2017 11:43

I tried the Nivea blue out of curiosity after reading that advert and thought it was a load of rubbish. If I have a spot, a graze, whatever, I swear CDLM accelerates the healing.

Alicia555 · 29/07/2017 11:57

I've read a blog post/article in the past where a woman compared the creme de mar and nivea over a number of weeks, she used the same application method (warming then patting the creams on) one side cdm the other nivea, there wasn't much difference.
Nivea a fiver, but that and a new handbag!

IncidentalAnarchist · 12/08/2017 07:45

Loads of great feedback thank you!! One concern I do have is visible pores on my forehead, nothing seems to deal with those
My skin is combination but gets dehydrated rather than dry iyswim

I've never used CDLM (but agree about the cheapo looking packaging!) but I have used Pro-Collagen. It is very very highly perfumed (smells like Dior Poison) so if your skin doesn't tolerate fragrance then don't risk it. I loved the fragrance and kept buying it mainly for that reason then realised it did nothing for my skin (which is dry) as it is more of a lotion than a cream, very thin consistency and is loaded with silicones which makes everything on top "pill".

My top highish end recommendation would be L'Occitane Divine Cream. One of the best ever though, with truly visible results in skin tone and texture is Neal's Yard Frankincense.

Mind you, at the moment i've splurged a whole tenner on a Bulagarian Rose one that my Bulgarian colleague (who is 50 and hasn't got a wrinkle) recommended.

abigailgabble · 12/08/2017 10:32

CDLM is a bit old hat. it's more a brand name than on the cutting edge of innovation, imo. i've been liking sunday riley (good genes) recently but not enough to repurchase for £85 so on the hunt for the next.

Madbengalmum · 12/08/2017 10:41

Interesting comments, or course its only difference from other creams is the seaweed, that is the whole point of it. Hence the creme de la MER name. It was initially used on burns victims to help the healing process. It is brilliant in my opinion, tried most other things and don't agree they are as good. Elemis, is ok for a short time then your skin starts to feel dry again. CDLA original moisturiser is very thick and you only ned a tiny bit which you warm in the palm of yur hand, a little goes a long way. If yo get through it quickly then you aren't using it properly. Each to his own, but bashing a product because you don't like it doesn't mean its bad, there is a reason it has a following and if it was purely about marketing then it would not retain its popularity for all this time.

www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2418153/Claire-used-1-Nivea-cream-half-face--105-Cr-la-Mer-The-results-VERY-revealing.html

Sorry for the fail link but this is an interesting piece. The writer used La Mer on half her face and Nivea on the other. A dermatologist used special cameras (or something like that) to evaluate her skin before and after, and Nivea was the clear winner.

My mum gave me a jar of Creme de la Mer a few years ago and it was very nice, but there is NO way I would personally spend that kind of money on a face cream. It's all marketing hype. Glad to see this confirmed by a dermatologist in the Fail piece.

KinkyFruits · 12/08/2017 10:48

and if it was purely about marketing then it would not retain its popularity for all this time.

LOL.

Summerholsrock · 12/08/2017 17:40

Crime de la mer eye balm intense

100% worth it

Gunpowder · 12/08/2017 18:08

Grin @ Tips tots cream. If it could get rid of the lines caused by my tots I would spend double CDLM prices on it!

I've tried my mum's CDLM a few times and wasn't that wowed. It gave me spots. I like Elemis pro-collagen too, but trying a Ren one at the mo which is good and less £££.

PookieSnackenberger · 12/08/2017 18:53

I much prefer Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream but was recently given a complimentary sample of Temple Spa Skin Truffle and I've converted to that now as it works really well, give a gorgeous glow and smells lovely. It's roughly the same price at £85 for 50 ml.

lunar1 · 12/08/2017 19:11

I use it, I only buy once a year the cream, face scrub and tinted moisturiser. I tried other things so many times, and have wasted far more money trying things that don't suit than I have on buying la mer products.

OCSockOrphanage · 12/08/2017 20:00

Can't comment on CDLM AS I have only tried it out intermittently, but the Beauty Pie Anti-Ageing cream is great on my old (61) skin, very gentle, not too heavy. Have bought my second pot. Find Clarins too scented, and have not tried the Elemis moisturiser although the Mint Lip Balm and the oil cleanser are both excellent.

Madbengalmum · 13/08/2017 13:31

Kinkyfruits, I am glad I provide such amusement to you. Clearly from that comment you think everyone that purchases it is stupid? Is that because you dont like it, or perhaps because you think you are intellectually superior? The product has remained an iconic beauty product for over twenty years now, and you think that people just buy it because of the marketing.

Ollivander84 · 13/08/2017 13:40

Spend your money on serum with active ingredients, not on the moisturiser

LockedOutOfMN · 13/08/2017 14:14

Reading this thread with interest. I use No. 7 Protect and Perfect and am really happy with the product, but can't help wondering whether if I shelled out for Clarins or something I'd suddenly have AMAZING skin that glowed even after half an hour's sleep.

Gah81 Naïve question, sorry, but what would the dermatologist actually do? Would I just ask for an appointment or do I have to request a specific treatment?
