Has anyone ever used creme de la mer? Worth it?

I've never spent tonnes on skincare but am definitely more invested now in my late 30s. If always been Confused at the price of CDLM but, having just spent £70 on another pot of Charlotte Tilbury Matic Cream (because it has made a visible diffference to my skin), I feel I'm now in that expensive skincare bracket.
So therefore I was wondering if this really is the holy grail in skincare and worth the extra ££ seeing as I'm spending a fortune already...
Has anyone used it? Views?

I used it for quite some time, and although it was good for my skin I somehow didn't feel it was particularly luxurious to use, despite the price, and I also seemed to be going through it rather too quickly!

I have since disovered Elemis which is by no means cheap, but a lot better value than La Mer and I much prefer it. You can often get 2 for 1 offers online at various websites.

Ktown · 28/07/2017 08:33

It is full of mineral oil and if you don't tolerate that it will cause spots.
Mineral oil is also very cheap so that is annoying too.
It has been marketed very well though.
I found magic cream a nightmare because of the Shea butter.

Crumbs1 · 28/07/2017 08:35

I use it because my husband always includes a jar on birthdays and In my stocking. It's nice for ageing skin but I wouldn't buy it if I were paying. I buy myself Clarins or just Olay.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 28/07/2017 08:41

My dad bought my mum some. I used a bit and can't really see the appeal. My mum said its no better than the other brand she uses which is far cheaper (I want to say Liz Earle but I may be wrong).
If what you using works then I'm not sure if spend any more to be honest.

MsGameandWatching · 28/07/2017 08:48

I've tried it a few times, no better than Nivea. Honestly. I was irritated at how ordinary it was. I use Claris moisturisers. I've tried loads but always back to Clarins, that brand just works for me.

The Elemis reviews look amazing, is it the pro collagen marine cream @ifonlyiweretaller ?

Another defector from La Mer to Elemis. The Elemis Pro-marine cream is great. As are the little day and night oil capsules (they are in a tub pink and green capsules - can't remember the name!).

Ktown · 28/07/2017 08:58

Elemis is also full of mineral oil so the texture will be similar.
Check out beautypedia for ingredients. You can save a fortune since most creams just contain water, glycerin and some mineral oil or filler oil.

Ifonlyiweretaller · 28/07/2017 08:59

It is indeed Incidental. I first bought the day cream to try and loved it, and now also have the night cream too (as well as the cleansing balm and various serums and eye creams!)
My skin has never been better. On average a 50ml pot is around £80 but currently on offer they have this Breast Cancer limited edition day cream which is double the size 100ml for £99 which is a huge saving. (and if you sign up to the website you sometimes get another 10%).

I honestly didn't think it worth the money. I use expensive make up, because I do think it's worth the money and I've tried all the expensive face creams but honestly think boots protect and perfect is the best one. Yes the jar isn't so pretty but that's about it.

KimchiLaLa · 28/07/2017 12:18

I tried it and it was shit. Did nothing for me

IJustLostTheGame · 28/07/2017 16:47

I got told it was the same stuff as nivea but with perfume added.
I don't know if that's true

MikeUniformMike · 28/07/2017 16:58

I tried it in a dept store and was told off by the demonstrator as I wasn't warming it on my palm before applying it. I'm not sure if the warming bit wouldn't work for any old moisturiser though. I have tried the elemis marine one and didn't like it - no noticeable improvement and I didn't like the smell.

Margaritasbythesea · 28/07/2017 17:35

If you're thinking of trying the Elemis buy a tester pot first (I got mine on Amazon). I tried it because it got good reviews from people with rosacea but for me it made my skin react so fast I could see my skin turning red as I smoothed it on.

TurnipCake · 28/07/2017 17:57

For La Mer money I'd invest in a decent vitamin C serum, retinol and SPF

softlyspokensophie · 28/07/2017 20:47

A really great product ( l've recently starting using ) is Neals Yard wild rose beauty serum
Really firming.
Not full of shit. Combine with a moisturiser too though!
I like jojoba oil or argan.

AudacityJones · 28/07/2017 20:59

Just a random suggestion - try pure coconut oil for a week or so. It's cheap obviously, and it works both as a makeup remover, cleanser and moisturiser. It has seriously changed my life! Skin is so soft and dewy now.

I know I'm being shallow here but for something priced from £115 to £1500 you'd think it'd have better packaging. I just googled to remind myself of the price and that is a very basic 90's looking pot. I realise this is neither here nor there but still.

CoolCarrie · 28/07/2017 21:44

It brought me out in spots, very unpleasant on skin and full of crap imho, good marketing , nothing more, you will find better value from other ranges.

muggymum · 28/07/2017 22:23

Look at skinceuticals siincsrev

slinkysaluki · 28/07/2017 23:16

Bet the Aldi Caviar cream is just as good and snip at the price

This is a 'interesting' read. I almost wanted to buy some myself by the time I got to the bottom but

To create what he called the "miracle broth" at the heart of the Crème, Huber fermented each batch of kelp in a fish tank for three months while continuously playing a soundtrack of sorts—the noise, recorded on a reel-to-reel, of the previous fermentation—and exposing it to pulsed light.

Blimey.

I use eucerin elasticity + filler £26 from boots.

It makes my skin feel lovely when I remember to use it
