Please tell me your quick & easy skin care routines & products

I am so lazy when it comes to skin care. My mother never taught me any kind of routine and so I've always just slapped some water on my face and quickly applied moisturiser in the mornings just another splash of water in the evening. I am just too tired after work & getting dc's to bed to do anything more.

I've always had good skin and seemed to get away with doing the bare minimum but now I'm 42 and starting to look tired & skin more dry but also a few more occasional spots.
I do wear up every day but nothing heavy and it seems to have disappeared by the afternoon.

Can anyone recommend some products and a routine that is quick and simple but that will help my skin look nice?

I have £60 of house of fraser vouchers and am tempted to use these on products but I have no idea what!

I do really like Clarins but I think I might feel a bit frivolous spending so much on skin care products. Are the more expensive ones really worth it, do they really make a difference.

I would also like to try a very light foundation or tinted moisturiser that will make me glowing and healthy looking instead of washed out & tired! Any suggestions please?

Really would appreciate any help.

You need to start cleaning your face woman!

I think the things the make the most difference to your complexion is cleaning your face properly and using some glycolic acid. Every evening I massage Body Shop camomile cleansing oil into my face (although the Clarins Pure Melt Gel cleanser would work well here. It turns from a gel to an oil on the skin) and then wipe it off with a face cloth wrung out in hot water. Then I wipe a glycolic face pad (Nip Fab ones available in Superdrug, usually on special offer) over my skin which deals with any flaky bits. Then moisturise. Do this early in the evening rather than just before bed.

In terms of a light foundation I'd spend some of your HoF vouchers at the Laura Mercier counter and get her tinted moisturiser.

Inforapenny65 · 23/07/2017 20:55

You could try Origins....they give you generous samples which last for ages so you can try before you buy....their products last for ages as you only need to use small amounts...a very good product if like me, you have sensitive skin..there usually have an Origins in HoF...😊

Clarins skin oils are lovely. If I were you I'd buy a creamy cleanser, eye cream, moisturizer and an oil to mix with the moisturizer as and when you need it. E.g. Bed time or winter. I'd buy Simple eye make up remover (clear one) and go from there. No need for a toner imo.

BusterGonad · 23/07/2017 21:14

Jus noticed you only have £60. I'd buy the Clarins oil and eye cream and go to Boots or The Body Shop for the other bits.

Lotsofsausage · 23/07/2017 21:16

Superdrug brightening hot cloth cleanser and glycolic acid pads. Just as good as the expensive stuff! a moisturiser containing HA for daytime and rose hip oil for evening the same range probably do them! sorted. cheap as chips.
Origins vitazing is an amazing tinted moisturiser. Save your vouchers for that.

squoosh · 23/07/2017 21:18

Vitazing oxidized horrifically on me. Turned me oompa loompa like.

Liz Earle's about £26.00 for a tube that lasts ages, buy online from Boots and get points via Quidco. Squeeze out a blob about the size of a 10p, massage all over your face for a minute or so then polish off with a hot flannel and rinse your face again. Buy a moisturiser with a sunscreen to use in the day.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have heard lots about serums and see that CLarins do one but it's sooo much money. Is it really worth it & what does a serum actually do?

I see that Clarins also do a tinted moisturiser, anyone know what that's like?

Recently discovered micellar water.. Absolutely love it ,use this as a cleanser then moisturize as normal Smile

Honey1975 · 23/07/2017 22:28

Crisp what make is that please, i've not heard of it before?

Another Liz Earle lover here. I was like you op but can't get away with it anymore. Liz Earle has transformed my skin and it feels like a real treat

squoosh · 23/07/2017 22:33

Try a tester of Liz Earle first. It gave me spots and I hardly ever get spots!

Honey1975 · 23/07/2017 22:34

Is that the polish one? Do you wash off with water?

OP posts:
squoosh · 23/07/2017 22:36

Yeah the cleanse and polish. You use the muslin cloth to remove it.

MineAreCrafty · 23/07/2017 22:36

I cleanse my skin at night by rubbing coconut oil into my skin and then removing with a hot flannel. It acts as a cleanser and moisturiser for me and I have a bag full of clarins and other posh stuff but the coconut oil works brilliantly

Honey1975 · 23/07/2017 22:40

I do like to use water on my face. If you use cream cleansers can you wash these off with a flannel or does it need to be cotton pads?

OP posts:
squoosh · 23/07/2017 22:45

You can use a flannel. Using a flannel and hot water seems to lift more grime than cotton pads which just smear it about I find.

Honey1975 · 23/07/2017 22:47

Thanks squoosh, I definitely prefer a flannel.

Mirceller water isn't that good for your skin. That's what've heard anyway.

crisplovingmummy · 23/07/2017 23:02

Its garnier ..find it really cleans my skin Wink get it in savers for £1 travel size, use that with nivea soft moisturiser x

CaseStudyResearch · 23/07/2017 23:05

Micellar water isn't so bad if used to remove make up, before then cleansing with an actual cleanser.

I like Alpha H cleansers, Clarins Blue Orchid oil and Nivea Daily moisturiser.

Honey1975 · 23/07/2017 23:07

CaseStudy, how do you use the blue orchid oil? Is it to give extra moisture aswell as moisturiser?

OP posts:
CaseStudyResearch · 23/07/2017 23:52

I have very dry and dehydrated skin, so need oil put back into my skin. I tend to warm it and pat it into my skin, then put moisturiser over the top.

I also use Nip & Fab Dragon Blood Serum intermittently with it to combat the dry patches.

OldJoseph · 24/07/2017 08:06

As far as your HoF vouchers go I'd spend them on quality make-up rather than cleansers and moisturisers. With perhaps the exception of the Liz Earle C&P which is very good.

It's generally easier to get foundation samples than anything else so you're less likely to make a mistake. Also a foundation or tinted moisturiser will last a lot longer than a cleanser and moisturiser.

MN is great for suggestions and tips for this sort of stuff.
