Please tell me your quick & easy skin care routines & products

I am so lazy when it comes to skin care. My mother never taught me any kind of routine and so I've always just slapped some water on my face and quickly applied moisturiser in the mornings just another splash of water in the evening. I am just too tired after work & getting dc's to bed to do anything more.

I've always had good skin and seemed to get away with doing the bare minimum but now I'm 42 and starting to look tired & skin more dry but also a few more occasional spots.
I do wear up every day but nothing heavy and it seems to have disappeared by the afternoon.

Can anyone recommend some products and a routine that is quick and simple but that will help my skin look nice?

I have £60 of house of fraser vouchers and am tempted to use these on products but I have no idea what!

I do really like Clarins but I think I might feel a bit frivolous spending so much on skin care products. Are the more expensive ones really worth it, do they really make a difference.

I would also like to try a very light foundation or tinted moisturiser that will make me glowing and healthy looking instead of washed out & tired! Any suggestions please?

Really would appreciate any help.

What Joseph said.
Id suggest- super drug hot cloth cleanser and a stack of muslins or flannels. Their eye make up remover with turquoise top.
Biore sun block (amazon, blue tube) I use as moisturiser.
Get your brows threaded, makes a big difference.

Thank you everyone. I am going to HofF today in my lunch hour as they've emailed me a £10 off voucher when you soend £50.

I am going to try the clarins tinted mousturiser although no idea which colour will be best!

I have had samples of clarins moisturiser before & loved it as it really did make my face feel moisturised and soft.

What about the serums and oils? Do these really make a difference, are they worth the money?

Joseph good idea about the quality make up. I would like a bronzer, any recommendations?

I have had my brows threaded before and loved it. I also had them dyed once but it was too dark and I didn't like it. How can I define them so that they look like my natural colour? I am brown hair but with lots of highlights so dark brown brows look wrong!!

I really appreciate all the help. It's been a long time since I looked after myself properly🙁

Honey I use baby lotion to cleanse, then Simple eye make up remover to remove the remaining eye make up, at the moment I use a separate eye cream and Astral mixed in with a drop of Clarins oil for dry/very dry skin, if I'm having a few issues (eczema, flaky skin) I'll also use Steamcream as it's VERY soothing and calms everything down.

Over the years I've used lots of top end, expensive skincare and I've now gone full circle and use pretty inexpensive stuff for the basics - cleansing and moisturising.

My view is that you really don't need to spend lots of money on these. Spend your money on products that will make a difference such as acids or serums or treatment products. Or makeup, get a really good base and concealer.

Boots Organics range and Boots Sensitive range I've found really good and I use Aldi Q10 moisturiser at 1.69 a jar. The only product I've ever used that's made a quick and obvious difference to my skin is Paula's Choice 2% BHA.

Be careful with Liz Earle, like a pp it gave me terrible spots. See if you can get a sample first.

Honey1975 · 24/07/2017 10:42

If I get the tinted moisturiser, do I need to use another moisturiser first?

I would use both a moisturizer and a tinted moisturizer but I have dry parched skin.

I'm much more at the budget end of style and beauty but if I had vouchers to spend I would prefer to spend it on make up.

So far as a bronzer is concerned I've just purchased a Bodyshop one (there was 40% off). It's called Honeybronze bronzing powder and so far so good. It comes in different shades and is matt rather than shimmery. I've got the palest colour.

A popular MN bronzer is Benefit Hoola, which now comes in a lite version. They also sell these as travel sizes. I've not tried it but it's frequently recommended here.

Bobbi Brown for both bronzer and eyebrow make up. The bronzer is matte and has different shades/tones, so you don't look muddy.

If brown is too obvious, Bobbi Brown do a universally flattering eyebrow pencil in Grey.

I use Liz Earle tinted moisturiser. But I do moisturiser first. But I give my skin a bit of time to breath before applying the foundation. I appreciate not everyone has the time to do that. Years ago I used a ulay tinted moisturiser. I loved it. They stopped doing it not sure if it's back on the market now ?

You really need to cleanyour face in the morning too. Just water does not hack it! You have sweated during the night, there might be oil on your face. You don't need something strong enough to remove make up (unless you don't remove it at night) but you do need something! Try a miscellar or a face wash.

clippityclop · 25/07/2017 19:06

I had a spots, the hard sort under my skin on my chin and jaw, after using Liz Earle at first but I persisted. They cleared up and I've had non since. I don't bother with the muslins, just ordinary flannels and then rinse like mad afterwards.

You can thank me later Grin

I use Eve Lom, but hear Liz Earle is good too

kkkkaty123 · 25/07/2017 22:43

Clippotyclop I use normal flannels with Liz Earle sometimes too. But just to let you know you can buy the clothes on amazon. No le label but same material. Does the job just as well

I love Clarins but it is expensive to build up a complete skin care range Clarins consultants on beauty counters are very helpful
I buy direct from Clarins now as you get special offers and samples I order when they are offering 6 samples Often other free samples can be obtained plus points towards £15 vouchers
The Double Serum is amazing also Super Restorative Total eye concentrate
